Where do we draw the line on Political humor?

There have been some pretty raunchy comedians in my day.

For anyone with cable and into comedy you can watch comedians telling sex jokes, using the "F bomb every other word and using words you never heard in the bible. I never really enjoy foul mouthed comedians, however they have what is know as the 1st amendment, freedom of speech.
 https://www.law.cornell.edu/constitution/first_amendment
I believe most foul mouthed comedians appeal more to men than woman. I cannot see most woman liking  these foul mouthed comedians, that's just me. I still look at woman as being more angelic than men, guess I still haven't learned?  ;-)

This brings two recent cases under investigation by the Federal Communications Commission (FCC)

Steven Colbert, Always
making fun of Trump
1- Steven Colbert ranting about President Trumps homosexual relationship with Putin on late night TV and using words I prefer to not use in this blog. You can check out for yourselves in this YouTube video I am enclosing below;
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g9pOQOnkfNY
2-The other incident is the case of comedian and HBO star of Real Time with Bill Maher making incest jokes about President Trump and his daughter Ivanka?
“A lot of us thought: Ivanka is gonna be our saving grace," said Maher. "When he’s about to nuke Finland or something, she’s gonna walk into the bedroom and say, ‘Daddy, Daddy…’” joked Maher while making a lewd hand gesture. “‘Don’t do it, Daddy.’”

Bill Maher constantly disrespects
 the Potus,
How far is too far?

When does a comedian cross the line?
Check for yourself;
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MqekOUJ35eg
We can't walk into a crowded building and yell fire, should we be able to call our president a man who makes incest love to his daughter, or call our president a homosexual who puts the Russian President's junk (sic) in his mouth on national TV.  Where should we draw the line?

If late night talk show hosts Jay Leno or David Letterman had ever said something similar about President Obama there would had been riots by the progressive liberals.

Jokes about the president are expected, it's part of the job, it comes with the territory. Joke all you want about Trumps hair, his fat stomach, his junk food diet,  his lies about the crowds at inauguration, his ego, etc...

Imagine if late night comedians had made jokes about Obama having sex with his daughters? Imagine if late night comedians made jokes about Obama having sex with a same sexed foreign leader?     We can handle jokes on George Bush being not so smart, and Obama, being  a Muslim who eats bacon and drinks beer, that's funny. I believe the line has been crossed with Potus.

Americans do not have to agree with the President, being able to debate in a civil manner and have differences is all part of American culture. There is no need to be perverted about your public critiques and jokes of President Trump.

I love comedy,In my dreams I'd love to be a stand-up comic.  I am not a prude, I can handle an "F bomb" and dirty jokes. I do not care for Steven Colbert,
never thought he was funny. Bill Maher on the other hand  is one of my favorite comedians, with that said I believe both of these perverse affluent comedians and their appropriate networks deserve a hefty fine.
Whether you agree with Trump's policy or not, it's time to start respecting the office of the President.

Yeah, today's jokes, language, insults and sexual innuendos have gone over the top on every level...a sad but clear sign of the times we live now in. However, in Trump's case, it's his own blundering, crassness and disrespect that has set him up for what he's reaping. His own conduct has managed to make respecting the office of the presidency a hard thing to do for many. Trump has somehow managed to Make America Greatly Troubled---and America is venting in the ugliest of terms.

I agree Roger Dean

I think he's fair game for reasons stated above, but I did cringe a bit when Ivanka was brought into it.

Trump himself stated he would date Ivanka if she wasn't his daughter. He opened the door.

I'm being civil...I don't think he's a business man - he's a con man plain and simple. You reap what you sow. He's shown no respect to anyone and always blames others for everything. He built his political career on the appalling birther lie. If you dish it out at the level you got it coming back to you.

You raise a good point, Kimo about how far is too far with derogatory words about our President or anyone else. But you also answer the question about our first amendment right and that is not going to change. You probably saw the movie about Larry Flint and how far he went with words but the supreme court ruled that free speech still ruled.

In the case of yelling fire in a theater that is a horse of a different color. You can cause mass injury to a lot of people by doing that but in these other instances no one is injured except the person who reads and interprets them in what ever way they want to.

I never miss Bill Mahr even though I am highly critical of his advocating for legalized use of Marijuana or for that matter, anyone pushing for legalizing any drug UNLESS it is for medical purposes and even then, why not just let a prescription from the Dr for a pharmacy be the method of use?
Your pal,
Glenn

Mr. Rosen,
I will call you in person over a proposition about writing for my publication. I really enjoy your blog.

This blog reflects my feelings as well, there needs to be respect for the office of the president. It doesn't matter who or what the President respects.

The people that disagree remind me of the people that do favors with the notion of expecting one in return. The old Chinese proverb states, A favor is not a favor if you expect one in return."

Looking forward to our call around 7:00 PM HST tonight.

I totally agree! Even comedians should have limits..limits they should put on themselves...respect the position, not the person. The whole world is watching. If our popular culture makes the world think that the American people are making fun of the President, then they won't respect him or us either. These comedians push it too far. They certainly can express their first amendment rights, but they should also consider that to many of us their words are hurtful and an embarrassment to the country.

I still have to wonder where you find the time to put all the comments on paper and in your blog---you are amazing, Kimo!!
Now just leave the Kool aid alone!!!

M Kontos is exactly right except the fact is that this idiot in office brings it all on himself by the stupidity he shows the world. The latest giving Russia our secrets is just another example of his egomania and not wanting to vet anything before he sends it to the world.
As I have said, his house of cards comes closer and closer to collapsing and it is going to happen. The statement that General McCraken said today that Trump did not even know what he was revealing to the Russians that came from Israel---what person in power would tell the world (Russia being the worst) something without first knowing what is a secret and what is not???????
