Too Much Sun

Hawaii has experienced a heat wave this past September and October. It has been humid and close to 90 degrees and high humidity non stop.

September is usually the hottest month in Hawaii, thus the reason many locals vacation in September.  October is the month where temperatures lower to the high 70's and low 80's usually with Hawaii's famous tropical trade winds.

I moved to Hawaii in 1999 from Alaska and would worship the sun and just loved being outdoors absorbing all I could after leaving the frozen tundra. Fast forward 15 years later and I now wear a hat and carry an umbrella everywhere I go. The umbrella is not for the rain , it is to shield the sun.

I used to laugh to myself silently (LTMS) when I first moved to Hawaii and saw people with their umbrellas in the hot sun? I thought  they were disillusioned thinking  it was raining out?

I have become intolerant of the sun, you've heard of lactose intolerant? I have become Sun intolerant. The  heat from  the sun is very uncomfortable to my skin and I am always trying to shield myself in shade.

It is said, "the grass is always greener on the other side."
Here's to a cloudy day.

I was at first a bit worried when I moved into Anahola last month, thinking that I'd moved into the pits of Hell (in terms of heat) until I found out it was pretty much island-wide.

I would still never trade even our hottest and humid days for the bitter cold of the north (or the stifling heat of their summers as well).

Lucky we live Kauai!

It's feeling pretty good right now. Nicely overcast, some showers, and even a little breeze.

sounds great. I am off on my bike to cruise Kapa'a town and look for last minute sign wavers. Guess you can tell I live in a small town, since sign waiving is entertainment to me...

LOL! I'm easily entertained even here on my couch.

Cheap eats, just make sure we don't go to any food trucks... Speaking of food trucks, there is a new food truck where Greek town used to be next to Otsuka's. They sell shaved iced, key word is organic shaved iced at $6.50 a pop, with tax close to $7 buckeroos. I asked the owner, isn't that a little expensive? His reply was "but it's organic?" So what, I said, I'm diabetic and organic fruit syrup is just as bad as anything for a diabetic, he smiled? The key word is organic. i couldn't believe it, almost 7.00 a pop for a shaved ice? Oh golly jeez, it's organic...imagine a family of 4 going out for shaved ice, mom, dad, four kids, 6 shaved ices, $42.00, give me a break...

$7 for shave ice??? Omg! My Thai lunch was cheaper than that! Was a rip off!

I could get a Huli Huli chicken that is slow cooked on pine wood for almost 2 hours with love and aloha for the same price and would last me two meals...Oy vey these people have lost their minds, and I can't believe people pay that?
