"Kids eat free..."

Why do so may restaurants have the come on motto and advertisement, "kids eat free?"

Why do the airlines let kids fly free if they are small enough to sit on your lap?

Kids should be charged, double, triple, and quadruple. They take more time away from servers and flight attendants than adults, they constantly kick the seat in front of them, run wild on the airplanes and in restaurants, throw things, break thinks, and when they go to the restroom usually don't flush the toilet.

Why don't the restaurants let the adults eat free and charge kids double, triple, quadruple or even $4.00 per lb. This would cover all the broken dishes, clogged toilets and Valiums for the hired help.

I would frequent any establishment that would enact such a policy. Any takers?

"Why does everyone look so young these days?.."

I see 15 year olds driving, which is the legal age for a drivers permit in Hawaii. They look like children at a carnival steering their bumper cars.

Police officers have such young faces, when they pull you over and ask for your license you feel like asking them if they have their parents permission to be out after 10:00 P.M

Professional football players look like 7Th graders on steroids, they have these really young faces with these huge out of proportion bodies.

Why does everyone look so young these days, or is it I'm just getting wiser?

My manic time is over, I was Duped...

I was duped, like the sting, The DLNR comes to my residence and befriends me and today they add a sticker to their no camping sign that says no trespass after telling me 2 days ago I Have every civil right to use their trail.

This is all freudian, just a macho thing, the authorities not wanting to admit their wrong, I cannot fight city hall , DLNR and the cops on my own. I tried. I have medical problems to deal with and don't have time to waste on whose has the biggest cigar.

Enclosed is a letter to the DLNR officer who seemed to be going to bat for me 2 days ago...

Why did you get me excited coming to my residence on a Sunday morning telling me I had civil rights and could walk the trail as long as I didn't cross KPAL leased land, but if I could access the DLNR trail from state-land which borders PAL, it was totally legal, I only needed a letter from the state

Your co-worker, two days later tampers with the no camping sign , by posting on a sticker that says no trespassing" When I call Tommy to ask a question, he says I Have caused enough problems and hangs up in my face.

I really thought you were on my side and told my friends what a great guy you were only to be defeated. I blogged about what a great guy you were.

I cannot fight City Hall,DLNR and the cops, I have 3 chronic illnesses that take most of my time to manage.

I hope all of you can look yourselves in the mirror when eventually a serious accident or death occurs, since the safe alternative trail was shut off to the public.

I will be the first to say, "I told you so."

The time wasted on this with all the people involved, has  cost taxpayers thousands of dollars only to be resolved to the abolishment of a safe trail, this makes me sick.

I cannot believe the people fighting this are in charge of a youth center, teaching our keiki(children)  how to be selfish, and not share a safe trail with senior citizens and those with disabilities.

I hope some attorney reads my blog and takes this case pro bono. I thought I could play attorney but have developed too many enemies.

"Rights of Individuals..."

There is a knock on my door this morning, I see a man in blue strutting a gun in holster, I think the worst...

Who is it?" Department of Land and natural resources officer."

He hands me a piece of paper, untitled, "Rights of Individuals."

He told me all state land is open to public 24-7, he said there are no pins separating the new KPAL police youth center  form state property, and told me it's like walking on the beach. The Hilton can have a beach in front of it's property, the Hilton is private land but the beach although looks like it's the Hilton's beach is the peoples beach.

He also said it is OK to walk on DLNR land, as I suspected they have  let people use the trail for years because they know of it's popular usage and is a much safer alternative than Kawaihau or the other trail that is broken payment and runs steep, he also said they will not be putting up no trespass signs as one local lieutenant   has stated.

He said  I should  ask the state  for something in writing stating allow me access  to   cross the state property. The key is finding the boundary, since much state land is not surveyed.

He confirmed it is the lieutenant  who has the fight with me since I initiated this whole process sending photos of the deliberate trail blockage ordered by one local lieutenant. It was the Honolulu office that ordered local police  to clear the land they blocked, hence the local lieutenant  in charge  gets mad at a little old sick Jewish guy (me) and orders 3 cops, 3 squad cars, 2 video camera's in my face  on the first furlough shorthanded day our conty had to deal with.

He also confirmed that the reason the cops came to harass me was an anonymous call to KPD, he told me I have the legal  right to know my accuser, he believes as I did, it was one of the out of uniform cops landscaping that day. He told me to demand who my accuser is, as is our right.

Mr. Milton  Ching the DLNR officer  was a true gentlemen, I invited him in we talked well over 30 minutes, before I had to excuse to myself to medicate my diabetes. He said he came because everyone has been sending their office complaint's, he was basically here to tell me to stand up for my rights, I told him  I have been, nice having it reinforced by a man in uniform wearing a gun.

I will call his boss tomorrow, to see what I can get in writing, in the meantime my rights were highly violated, not only with harassment,  but by the cops helping a local man on the same trail  home the other night and not arresting or giving him fair warning, that man  of course being a relative of the lieutenant in charge.

I am siting on pins and needles since everyday we take the alternate routes it makes life much more stressful and dangerous.

This is not a done deal but looks like the ball is rolling my way... stay tuned.

"The news will come to me..."

Somehow the news seems to follow me. I do not need to go anywhere special, whatever is in my daily agenda usually brings tomorrows headlines on Kauai.

This past week I was the first to find out our Mayor was no longer running un-apposed and broke the scoop to the mayor and local paper.

I also found out another unknown want to be politician is running for county council.

Then on Wednesday, the day I go to the farmers market I am late and the people I usually sit with were run over, normally I would had been there with them. Thank G-d they are OK.

Last night my neighbor walks on the trail I have been harassed by 3 cops, 3 squad cars and 2 video camera's but he is not even given a warning of trespass but is guided home since he said he was on medication and is local.

Finally Friday, I decide to relax and garden and right in my back yard on a road hardly nobody drives on a former NFL football player and a local man calling each other racist slurs have a major fight, leaving the NFL guy all bloody and rushed to hospital.

I don't know what tomorrow will will bring but know that the news will come to me.

" It was a manic moment, followed by a depressive overture..." Local politics

Lani Lani Lani Lani Lani!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Lani Kawahara is a local  woman who serves on the county council, A few of us are hoping she runs for mayor to give our current mayor some competition.

Diana Labedz, an unknown political name is running for mayor, a huge long-shot, (I would have a better chance than Diana) to get her name and ego out, there's no way to beat our current NFL good ole boy mayor, Bernard Carvalho  jr. who played for the 1984 Miami dolphins, go ahead google it.

I actually was at the elections office on Monday, the day  Diana Labedz applied for her  papers to run for mayor.  I was actually the number 3 signature on her list of registered voters. I actually gave the scoop to the local paper and also advised the mayor he was no longer running unopposed since I had stopped by his office to talk about local police harassment, but he was in a meeting? (yea right)

Ken Taylor another unknown political name  also pulled his papers to run for county council the same day,  to run for county council.

The reason I was at the elections office is that I was actually thinking of running for county council myself, It was a manic moment, followed by a depressive overture. I actually asked to file, they took my license, I then felt ill, and said maybe next time.

I do like Bernard our current mayor, but so far this coming mayoral election is like watching a blowout football game, everyone enjoys a nail biter, especially on the winning side.  so I will say it again, Go Lani Go, instead of, “Go Granny go, the little old lady from Pasadena,” HOW ABOUT “GO LANI GO, THE LIBRARIAN WITH BRAINS FROM KAPA'A TOWN.” Lani Kawahara for mayor!

"Saved by Obama, da dog..."

http://thegardenisland.com/news/local/article_47d61be2-8feb-11df-b004-001cc4c002e0.html?mode=story

Every Wednesday my routine is to go to Kapa'a farmers market and arrive approximately at 3:45 P.M. since the crowds are mellowing out by then. I enjoy hanging out and talking story with my friends, Lisa, Sumi, and Lisa's mom. (pictured above with Obama the dog in February 2010, at the farmers market)

There was an accident, My friends were sitting on the tailgate of their sedan wagon selling fresh produce  when a car hit their front end  pushing them 15 ft. forward. Lisa fractured two toes and one toe was broken, Sumi had major neck and back pain from the jolt, Sumi is 85 years old. The ambulance came and took them to the local hospital

Two  young Rabbis were visiting me which delayed my arrival, ironically Lisa's 90 year old mom went looking for  Obama (my dog)  and me during the ordeal. Obama loves Lisa's mom and runs to her as soon as I let her off her leash. if I had not been late Lisa's 90 year old mon most likely would had  been injured too, since she would not had gone walking looking for her favorite four legged friend. If you look at their photo above the car was hit and moved about 15 ft and to the right which would had knocked Lisa's mom off  her chair, which could  had been  deadly for a frail 90 year old woman.

Thank you Rabbi's for detaining me and possibly saving a human life. Coincidence or divinity?
I vote Divinity!...

P.S. a link to a story in Kauai's Garden Island newspaper about the accident can be viewed below;

"There in a meeting.."

Don't you hate when you call a business person, politician or someone who thinks there important with a secretary and switchboard and you are told, 'I'm sorry there in a meeting."

It's 2010, I always say come on, can't you think of something more original than the old , he or she is a meeting excuse?" Granted there are times when they are actually in meetings but how often is that in reality?

Here are some better comebacks for all you VIP's, politicians and business people.

Have your secretary or switchboard say, your in the bathroom having a major bowel movement, or that you are currently in an affair with an intern, or  they are sitting at their desk reading jokes that their friends sent them on the computer as they try and look busy.

However don't insult my intelligence and tell me they are in a meeting.

How about saying, "look idiot they said if you called, get rid of him. Please say anything but there in a meeting. Funny thing, everyone I called this morning was in a meeting.

"Going viral..."

The  goal is to always go viral on any You-tube, I had thought viral meant anything over 1,000 hits... I have learned to classify a You-tube as viral you need 100,000 plus hits... I guess everyone who ever makes and submits a YouTube wants to go viral.

Viral used to mean you had a disease you needed anti-biotics or hospitalization for. Viral is now something cyber junkies strive for, not try to avoid.

Recently I  purchased a Sony handy-cam at a closeout price at Walmart, I could not refuse this palm sized device that with a little memory card can record many hours of sound and high quality video capable of being transmitted within seconds anywhere in the world.

I graduated in 1979 from Brooks institute of Photography with a BFA in Professional Photography. My major was motion picture science.

The old process of clip boards, moviolas and separate recording devices has been replaced with camera's and phones  that can fit in your pockets and do it all.

Recently I have had some problems with the local police and with the help of my Sony handy-cam was able to prove without a reasonable doubt that I was being harassed.

Everywhere we go, everything we do, remember the person next to you probably has something in their purse or pocket that can record your every move.

Big Brother is here, for the good, the bad and ugly...

A letter to Kaua'i Mayor Bernard Carvalho Jr.

photo above, the local police blocking an established trail that the DLNR told them to later clear.

For those of you who follow my blog I have not heard back from the  Kaua'i Chief of police concerning the local police harassing me, I am therefore  going viral and want as many people as humanly possible to know of this abuse. Enough is enough.

Below is a letter I just sent to the Mayor of kaua'i

Aloha Mr. Mayor,

There is a new youth center that is being renovated behind Mahelona hospital, it is the old civic duty center. Many of our local police have donated their efforts to renovating this project.

Many people have been using this trail since kawaihau Rd. is a safety hazard to walk or bike on with no appropriate shoulder or sidewalk, in fact the little dirt on the side of the road is massively littered with broken glass. I know one senior citizen male who has been using this trail for 21 years for his shopping needs in Kapa'a.

I ride a bike and walk as much as possible for the exercise it provides and to help save the nations oil reserves. This trail is on DLNR land and the department recently put up a sign saying no camping.

Last week the local police blocked the trail-head which leads to the DLNR property, the police were asked to remove the debris and they did, making the trail accessible again with a "no camping sign," not a no trespassing sign. (enclosed attachment)

On Friday July 2, 2010 at approximately 9:00 A.M. 3 police officers and 3 squad cars come to my residence to give me a warning of trespass that I have been seen walking my bike on this trail. I ask why does it take 3 officers and 3 squad cars to deliver a warning to a peaceful senior? I also ask them to put down their two video camera's and they refused, I therefore get out my video camera and filmed the 3 officers harassing me. I am embarrassed as all my neighbors peer through their curtains looking at 3 squad cars parked in front of my residence.

There's murderer's and drug dealers out there on the first major county furlough where they are short officers and they send 3 of them to Harass and bully me for close to one hour.

They wanted me to sign the warning, I refused...

Many other people are using this trail, why I am the only one being harassed.

I am publicly asking KPD for an apology in writing signed by the appropriate command in charge and to make a safe alternative avail to all who have been using this trail.

Every day I cannot use that trail is another day I am putting my life at risk by having to resort to use Kawaihau Rd. and the steep trail.

Enclosed are the still photos of officer Basuel badge #472
officer Murita-badge #470
officer Baumung-badge # 428. also enclosed is the new No camping sign, no where does it say no trespassing.  and here are the video's of what transpired, 3 cops, 3 cars, 2 video camera's and one hours time on the first county furlough Friday.

Please help me Mr. Mayor, I am being singled out and harassed. I do not know why a senior citizen who has many medical problems is being given such a hard time?

Reminiscing about a close call in 2009....

This happened to me  On Apr 12, 2009, I just wanted it in my blog as a reminder that life is precious and we can't take it for granted.

I had a close call today(April 12, 2009). Today was the first time in 3 years I went to my favorite beach(Secret Beach), A few reasons I stayed away was , since my spinal surgery I have only swam in the public pool out of fear that my strength was not what it used to be and I get infections easy from the saltwater because of my diabetes if the water is dirty or cut myself on coral, plus I did not own a car until last week and it's hard to get there without a car, it's a hard hike up and down hill and a long walk to get the part I like.

I saw whales and decided to go in the water, I started swimming parallel with the shore but drifted out, I drifted so far out, on a day I should never had gone in the water, rough surf and white caps everywhere. I figured I could body surf in. I was gaining no ground and waves were covering me making it hard to breathe, I swam on my back and tried to relax but kept getting overpowered and drenched with more waves, this went on for over 20 minutes and I was loosing strength and my thought was I was going to die, I was exhausted and could not handle the situation much longer. I said the  Jewish signature prayer called the shema and thought this is it.

I know they say swim parallel with the shore, I tried doing that and wedged in a little at a time, no gain, so I again tried body surfing in, I was getting exhausted and with no lifeguard and only one other person within my eyesight, I thought this was it. I was going to die at my favorite beach.

Miraculously, I gained ground and could feel bottom, but then got sucked out again, finally a large wave rode me in, I managed to walk to shore in exhaustion and fell to the ground thanking the Lord for giving yet another chance at this thing we call life.

Mother nature is a powerful source, and life is short and precious. Just needed to share this with friends for a second time...

G-d Bless & Aloha, JR

The irony is, the sign says, No camping... This actually happened today!

Aloha, this is an actual incident that happened this morning, which had my blood glucose higher than a kite, and stressing to the point, I couldn't eat, and I love to eat.

This morning Friday July 2, 2010, three police officers in three different squad cars are knocking on my door with a video camera filming the delivery of a warning about trespassing on the DLNR property that was recently cleared. They said it was issued by Lt. Contrades. The irony is, the land was cleared because the Department of Land & Natural resources ordered the police department to clear the blockage of brush at the  trail-head I complained about last week and the sign in question says no camping, not no trespassing (photo enclosed)

I felt harassed why do they need three officers and three squad cars and a video camera to deliver a warning to a peaceful senior citizen with many medical problems who relies on using the safe trail that is now certified "no trespassing but in essence is no camping?" They said I would be arrested if I use the trail again.

Three squad cars and three offficers, harassing a senior citizen when they could be out arresting drug dealers and murderer's, to send three squad cars and three officers taking almost an hour of everyone's time was overkill to say the least.

I asked the officers to quit filming me, since I felt harassed, they quit for a minute, then starting filming again, that's when I started filming also.

I am asking permission to please use the trail once every morning and once every evening.

Enclosed are the still; photos of officer Basuel badge #472
officer Murita-badge #470
officer Baumung-badge # 428

I know police chief Perry is an understanding man and an avid bicyclist himself and realizes that Kawaihau Rd, is not safe to bike or walk on.

For safety's sake this trail has been in use for over 30 years and to close it now, makes absolutely no sense, HELP!

I have video's of the whole event , that I will be posting soon.

Please, grant me permission to use the trail for safety alone, not to mention, common use and grandfathered.

Respectfully,
James "Kimo" Rosen

p.s. this was sent to the chief of police and a few others...

"For now I'll let you go..."

You often hear people say while conversing on the phone, "I'll let you go." I hate that expression.

It's so controlling without the person talking even realizing how controlling it is. Like they are in charge of my life and my life centers around them, "I'll let you go." Gee that's mighty kind of you to let me go, now are you sure you want to let me go? Maybe you need someone to listen to your dull life and problems, or you want someone to talk to while driving because you are bored.

I know I take up alot of your time on this blog of mine, so for now I'll let you go, until I think of my next blog... :D)
