Everyone knows that Costco
still sells a $1.50 all beef hot dog and refillable soft drink at all US locations including Alaska and Hawaii.  
Costco does not advertise, people just know this fact, whether or not they partake and buy the dog themselves or just know from what we refer to as the coconut wireless here on the islands.  

Why does the state of Hawaii and the Hawaii Tourism Authority spend  millions of dollars of taxpayer money promoting Hawaii, AKA Paradise?

It seems a place with the moniker "Paradise" and used as backdrops in numerous commercials and as a location for many major motion pictures really doesn’t need much promoting?

The fact of the matter, Hawaii is saturated at this point with visitors. There is no longer an off season.  
Residents no longer go to their favorite beaches, restaurants or nightspots because of the crowds.

Friends have told me of longer than normal waits at their doctors offices and the lines at the grocery store can really get out of control.

Traffic, let’s just say,
I am glad I don’t drive. Thank God for the Kauai bus, however the pedestrian trail where I peddle my bicycle has been taken over with rental bikes and tourists everywhere driving 3 abreast and on the wrong side of the lanes. My once refuge the Kapaa public pool has also been saturated with all kinds of new people. Our visitor industry has peeked and reached pandemic stressed proportions.


It’s time to abolish all the organizations that promote Hawaii and advertise Hawaii using taxpaying dollars to the outside world. According to a recent audit the HTA  (Hawaii Tourism Authority) spends
   tax payers dollars extravagantly with little accountability.  According to KHON news, "Some receipts that were submitted were what auditors called "extravagant," such as $50,000 for first-class airfare, more than $400-per-night hotel rooms, compared to other employees' lodging at an average of $266 per night, and even one-day chauffeur service for $369."Thousands are spent on full page ads in national magazines and many 30 second television ads.

The state of Hawaii can use that taxpayer money that was being used to promote Hawaii to
fix-our broken roads, fix the chronic homeless situation and start the ball rolling on affordable housing (somewhat of an oxymoron,) however still a wonderful cause! 

The visitor industry has peeked, on top of everything, every week the airlines announce a new nonstop flight from somewhere new, believing this is
such a wonderful accomplishment. The irony , even with all these numerous new flights prices continue to rise. Competition for the airline industry is so desperately needed in an island state with no current Ferry system.

There is absolutely no reason to use taxpayer money to advertise and promote a place referred to as 'Paradise' that so easily sells itself.


It’s time to re-organize or else nobody’s going to want to come to 'Paradise,' although I guarantee they will still buy those $1.50 hot-dogs at Costco, a company that never advertises to outside sources.
