"Do what you Love for a Living..." 'Judith Whitehead' (Inspiration Friday)

( A suburb of Buffalo, N.Y.)

field of medicine for nearly 40 years

Do what you Love for a Living

Do what you Love for a Living and you will never work a day in your Life.

This has been my mantra for the last 35 years in the medical work force. I starting working in the medical field back in the 1970's, specifically in Ophthalmology, and I have never regretted a day since. Having taken off a few years when my children were little only to return to the field as if riding a bike. My career working on people and taking care of their eye health along with their general health at the same time has given me great pleasure and pride over my career. Now that I am in my 60's, I still enjoy the field as much as I did in the 1970's.

I have met so many wonderful people along the way and have had so many mentors as well, that I would not trade what I do for any other career. I do at times regret not getting my Medical Degree a long time ago, but as life has it, distractions do get in the way with life's responsibilities.

My sons as well keep their dreams alive and work in fields that they enjoy as well. Most of us have to work for a living and we soon realize that life is too short to do something that is just “OK.”

Doing what you love every day continues to give you a sense of satisfaction and pride and does add years and value to your life. I don't know if our young people really “get it” as far as working in a satisfying career. They get caught up in grabbing the brass ring way to soon in life because of inexperience with life or just having sheer impatience. They don't enjoy the present time . If you do what you love, the money will come.

Now that I am in the 60's I have managed to somewhat slow down and have my Mondays' off from work. It's like having a little vacation every week and makes a great difference in my life. Yes we can do what we love but we do run short of steam at some point.

My message here, to everyone but more so the young people in their 20's and 30's is choose carefully what you love to do, not what will bring in the most money, but what you feel fulfilled in, it goes a long way--to build your character and your happiness. You will excel and move up the “ladder”--and have a smile on your face.  ;-)
