"My new smartphone and no owner's manual..." 'James "Kimo" Rosen' Kimo's world #360

James "Kimo" Rosen is a retired professional photographer
and amongst other things is a satirist.
Rosen is a resident of Kapa'a Kauai and
photographs the sunrise as a daily ritual, hobby, and love.

My new smartphone and no owner's manual

I never thought I'd be one of those clued to a smartphone.

Ten years ago, my cousin bought me my first iPhone 6, and until then, I prided myself on being one of the few people left in the world still using a landline, point-and-shoot camera, and computer to log on to Facebook.

Since then, I have been an iPhone junkie, not because I like to talk or text but because of the photo and camera technology. As a retired professional photographer, the quality of photos achieved with smartphones still amazes me, and in many instances, it is even better than with professional DSLRs. My iPhone 10 and 11 were both excellent, too. I use the camera to take daily sunrise photos, which has become my passion and hobby, with a daily posting and following on many social media platforms.

There's been a lot of hype about Apple's new iPhone 16, therefore, I decided to acquire one, the best one Apple makes. The iPhone 16-Pro Max!  I purchased it through T-Mobile, my carrier, at their local Costco kiosk. This phone has all the bells and whistles, special filters, an erase feature to delete things in photos you don't like, a side camera where you can use the camera without even turning on the phone,  plus one of the longest-lasting batteries ever.

The phone's problems are complicated. For the three months I've had it, I've been on the phone sharing a screen with Apple, T-Mobile, or at Costco or another T-Mobile store numerous times.

The good news since I made my purchase through a T-Mobile located in Costco, they give you three months to use the phone to decide if it's for you, should you want to return it. Whereas normally, just buying at T-Mobile, you only have 14 days. Membership has its privileges. One of the many reasons I love Costco

With all the AI, I now have one of the best smartphones on the market, and allegedly, one of the best cameras. I find it ironic that my iPhone 6, 10, and 11 seemed to capture better images in many situations.

Now my only question is to Apple: you make such a complicated device, basically a computer that fits into one's pocket, that is capable of more than a room-sized NASA computer of the 1960s, and so many other things, yet there is no instruction manual.

The irony is I can buy a corded princess phone for $20 on Amazon and get a 30-page instruction manual with it, yet a 4-figured complex smartphone with no owner's manual. Go figure.
