PitBulls need to be stopped... "James "Kimo" Rosen

My bicycle lays on its side after the Pitbull attack of 09-11-13.
The world's greatest newspaper, the Kaua'i Garden Island News
assigned writer extraordinaire Tom LaVenture to cover this story.
Check it out;

PitBulls need to be stopped

My adrenalin was pumping, I was shaking. I was walking my bike along side the road after shopping at the local farmers market.  I fell over on my bike and as I lay on the asphalt twirling  my 25 lb best friend on her leash to prevent the Pitbull from mulling her to death, it was exhausting, this is going on for what seemed like ten minutes but in reality was probably only a few minutes. I was screaming for help at the top of my lungs.

A local store owner's employee (thank  God) tackled the dog and stopped a potential fatal scene. Our produce was mushed and my sandals were broken We were  blessed to get out of this alive. Thankfully Obama Da Dog was wearing a t-shirt to shield her from the sun which also helped shield any bites. The pitbull managed to  grab the t-shirt.

The cops and paramedics  finally arrive 30 minutes after I  place a 911 call. They ask me questions along with a humane society officer,  did the pit bull attack you or did you fall, I said both. "Which one was it Mr. Rosen?" It seemed like I was being interrogated while in shock. The humane officer told the cop it really doesn't matter since the dog was off the leash, then the cop asks,do you want to file charges? Sure?

I said I have a couple who witnessed the event and even said this dog has attacked 2 others to their knowledge, would you  like their name and number? No Mr. Rosen were talking to you.  OK fine.

I ask, what happens next? The officers says, you will go to court and he will be fined, what about the dog, well, since it was on his property  the dog will not be destroyed.

At first I said I would file charges then decided against since I could see where this was going and do not have the stamina to put up with such BS. The owner of the  store  offered to pay for any damages to my bike and my mushed produce.

The paramedics bandaged an abrasion on my left wrist and told me to make sure I had a current tetanus shot. Ironically after sleeping on this my legs and back are very sore from the fall and attack.

If it weren't for the brave woman employee of the Thrift store my best friend Obama Da Dog would probably not be alive, she saved my dogs life and major injury to myself by tackling and restraining the pit-bull.

Putting a pit bull in a family setting or  a business setting  is a recipe for tragedy.

The pit bull dog  is  banned in Argentina, Bavaria, Bermuda, Denmark, Ecuador, France, Guyana, Israel, Italy, New Zealand, Norway, Portugal, Puerto Rico, Romania, Lativa, Singapore, Spain, St. Kitts and Nevis, Trinidad and Tobago, Turkey, the UAE, United Kingdom, Venezuela and parts of Australia, Belgium, Brazil, Canada, Germany, Ireland, Malaysia, China and Japan. There are a few more countries where this ban is still pending... The pitbull dog is a very aggressive, fearless, vicious, bloodthirsty attack dog that has no place in civilized society.

Putting a pit bull in a family setting or  a business setting  is a recipe for tragedy.

Ironically the accident happened right across the street

Infuriating! The authorities in this county so nothing to punish irresponsible dog owners. You are wise not to waste your time in court. I had a similar issue and was subpoenaed (with only 2 days notice). My dad had to take the majority of the day off work, they took 2 hours to get to us, then let the owner off scott free!... I'm so glad Obama is ok! Also glad you're recovering!

What a harrowing experience! But I am happy to ear it was a woman who rescued you & Obama.

Michael Herr said...

Sue for injuries.

KimoRosen said...

Yes Harmony if that lady employee, G-d bless her, had not been there I would probably not have my best friend. Ami, sorry to hear of your experience sounds status quo for this county. I could tell by the way the authorities were treating me, I did not stand a chance, just happy to have my dog at this point.

via facebook, glad you are ok. My dog was attacked by a pitbull on Laipo rd. about 10 days ago. She was on her leash, the other dog wasn't. My dog had 2 bites, had to go to vet. I got all cut up protecting her until owner pulled the pit off of me.

Susan Wilesmith-Barretto A client of mine had an attack on her dog about 5 says ago at Salt Pond by a PB not on a lead and nearly killed her poodle
She is still trying to regain her voice from screaming so much and ended up badly bruised from the Attack
Her age 75
I thought there were laws about PB not being on leads

B On Hawaii ugh. HALF of me wants to say "F'in pitbulls. put em all down." then, I know all the crazies (read: uninformed pit owners) jump out of the woodwork backing up how docile the "sweet" breed is. Then, the other half of me wants to say that in the ten years...See More

via facebook,On the inside of my right forearm, I have about a 6 inch visible hairline scar from pulling a Pit Bull off of my pup. The Pit Bull went after my sweet dog, and was going to kill her--had Lulu pinned on her back, and trying to clamp down on Lulu's neck. Luckily Lulu has thick fur...luckily I happened to be in our yard at the time, and luckily I have the training I do in law enforcement. I saw the dog start to charge my pup. I charged in the same direction. Grabbed the Pit Bull by the skin on the scuff of the neck, and jerked with all my might. I was so angry, all the while commanding the Pit Bull. I got scratched in the twisting and flailing of the Pit Bull. I threw a brick and it hit the Pit Bull, and was able to keep the Pit Bull off my pup. A few seconds later, and it would have been too late. Once these dogs snap and clamp down with their jaws, the dogs don't let go. There is something in the brain wiring of this breed...very dangerous. These dogs are banned from coming into so many foreign countries--including Australia, Singapore, and Thailand. However, allowed in Hawai'i--and particularly aggressive in Hawaii. Pit Bulls banned and disallowed in a developing country like Thailand, but allowed in Hawai'i? I'll leave it at that.

Debbie Eayrs said...

So glad you two are okay!!!

Deborah Morel said...

Leaves everyone with a very unsettling feeling, and for several reasons. Are The Garden Island news and Star Advertiser going to do a story? A developing country like Thailand--which has dogs and cats running free in every street--and this Buddhist Nation by law forbids Pit Bull breed to be in Country, or enter Country. I m in Bankok, Thailand now. These animal immigration laws are posted in Airport and at Quarantine Centre. Then, there is Hawai'i..

Deborah Morel said...

Very relieved that ObamaGirl and you are safe. This was too close of a call to get over quickly, and not to be addressed. Both of you could have been killed. Thank you to the quick reacting woman who came to the rescue.

KimoRosen said...

yes, if it weren't for the woman employee my dog would be dead, and me in the hospital.

It's time to start breeding the killer instinct out of pit bulls and Rottweillers. It was bred in, and it can be bred out.

I'm glad you two are o.k. It's not the dogs fault it's the owners. Dogs are what you make them and they will love you forever. Never blame a dog always the owner who doesn't know how to treat a dog. Soryy I'm off my soap box now. Glad you and Obama are alright and that Joann is good.

KimoRosen said...

Yes, I have always said, people with loving dogs are usually loving people, people with dogs that don't shut up are likely that way themselves, dogs reflect their owners...

James Kimo Rosen Yes, not bad, Obama used to catch them and I would just poach (Boil them after feathering and gutting them, actually very tasty, and not near as tough as i thought. A little gamey but healthy taste.
