~Happy Anniversary dakinetalk blog~
Publisher/ Blogger-n-chief's forward
I have published 1974 dakinetalk blogs in the last 8 years.
dakinetalk is starting it's 9th year! Our first blog was publish January 7, 2010 and
can be seen at the bottom of this page!
"Jourdan Rodrigue's Kryptonite fails Superman, Cam Newton."
The reason for the huge amount of views is the Cam Newton Fan page let me post the blog on his many fan pages and his fans clicked like crazy! ;-) (Cam Newton is the quarterback for the Carolina Panthers and is known amongst his fans as Superman)
We are also more politically motivated which seems to get us more views. dakinetalk blog no longer publishes guest blogs, with that said a Big Mahalo nui (Thank you) to all the guest bloggers of years past!
It's not easy being in the public eye and being the Publisher and Blogger-n-chief of daknietalk blog. However it is the most fun hobby a retired publisher and photographer could be doing in his spare time on an isolated rock in the middle of the Pacific!
Mahalo Nui Loa for reading and supporting dakinetalk blog.

Many of us hid behind our Eccedentesiast botox smiles when we heard Mayor Carvalho was not running for Governor and congratulated him none the less when the big day arrived when every major news outlet in the state announced that our leader with support of his family had decided to run for Lt. Governor in lieu of seeking the Governorship. A disappointment for many of Carvalho's avid supporters since they were expecting him to run for Governor, not Lt. Governor.
The Lt. Governor basically does very little unless something happens to the Governor. The Governor can send the Lt. Governor to attend funerals and other functions that the Governor doesn't wish to attend. The Lt. Governor is similar but less stature than the Vice President, however it is someone that the Governor should like and be able to get along with especially in times of crisis.
Why does Hawaii elect a Lt. Governor and not allow the Governor to choose a running mate as does the President? Imagine if we voted separate for a Vice President aside from the President? Donald Trump could've wound up with Pocahontas (Elizabeth Warren a Democrat and arch rival) as his VP.
25 states including Hawaii hold separate elections for the Lt. Governor and in those cases a Lt. Governor can be from an opposing political party and 18 states have the Governor choose a running mate Lt. Governor similar to the way a President chooses a running mate Vice president. (This method seems more logical and makes more sense to me.) The remainder 7 states do not have a Lt. Governor but rather a process should the Governor become disabled. Read what the other states do below;
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lieutenant_governor_(United_States)
It's high time the Governor and Lt. Governor run as one, on the same ticket in Hawaii. I still believe Bernard Carvalho Jr. can defeat Governor David Ige and his major opponent, Colleen Hanabusa. It's not to late to change.
The race for Lt. Governor is crowded and at one time Mayor Carvalho wanted to work with a few of the candidates he is now running against whom include but is not limited to, State Sen. Josh Green, State Sen. Will Espero, Mayor Alan Arakawa, State Sen. Jill Tokuda and new to the race Kim Coco Iwamoto . Current Lt. Gov. Shan Tsutsui doesn't plan to run for re-election.

Many career politicians are vying for the job of Lt. Governor even though it's been charactectured and lampooned as a title with little or no real power because they look at it as a stepping stone to be Governor someday.
I believe Bernard Carvalho Jr. has a better chance at winning the Governor's race than the crowded Lt. Governor's race ,and not only that I believe his style of Government, Aloha and Kokua in helping others for their benefit and not for personal gain would be welcomed in these chaotic times. I also believe a Lt. Governor should be chosen by those running for Governor and not by running on an independent ticket.

The Bus Ride From Hell;
The 11:00 o'clock bus had 2 bikes, two bikes is the maximum the Kauai Bus can accommodate, therefore I missed my bus, I did a few errands and waited for the 12:00 o'clock bus, my bike and I got on board this time in hopes of making it to the doctors office on time.
From Kojima store to Brick oven pizza a normal 10 minute bus ride took almost one hour.I started feeling nauseous, I had the drive heaves, the bus was literally at a standstill across from the Coconut market place, I asked the driver if i could please get off since I was about to loose my insides, she said it's illegal, I asked her if she would please call her dispatch, she complied and dispatch told her she could not let me off until the next designated bus stop at Brick oven pizza, which was a grueling 30 minute drive, something that normally is done in 2-3 minutes.
I pleaded with the driver to call back to dispatch, the driver called again and here is what dispatch told us, I could not get off unless we called emergency 911 and then it would had been a real mess in an already bumper to bumper traffic situation for everyone. Luckily I just had the dry heaves' but being on a bus in traffic, that is going at a snails pace and feeling sick as a dog with no fresh air, (since windows are not allowed to be open on the bus), is an experience I would not wish on anybody, unless of course that somebody is the person behind dispatch.
\
I never did make it to the doctors that day..

Nice article, not sure how your friend feels about your attempt to draft him into the governor position. =)
Web surfing undertow had me investigating the 12th Amendment to the Constitution of the United States (https://en.wikipedia.org/.../Twelfth_Amendment_to_the...). Which, as I understand it, theoretically would allow the electoral college to select a Vice President other than the elected President's running mate. Of course given the way politics work, I don't see this happening unless President Trump decides to put a final coffin nail in the electoral process and run a Trump/Clinton ticket in 2020.
I think the public's problem of having appointed Lt. Governors is most likely due to the fear of creating a political dynasty. With political fundraising being a giant part of the effectiveness in getting people elected, allowing two persons to consolidate their funds might not be a good thing. Speaking of which, I wonder if Mark Zuckerberg has considered running for political office on Kauai.
Is Zuckenberg a Hawaii resident? If so and he has the time and desire, why not? I'm just saying, the way Hawaii is set up now A democrat could win the Governorship and a republican could be the Lt. Governor since they run independent of each other verses running as one on the same ticket.
as what he do anyway
very little

To The Forum:
Now that AJA Baseball has once again started, a few comments should be made about this fine league.
First those running this organization are to be congratulated for keeping America's favorite pastime running for so many years. The volunteers and the finances it takes to keep it operational are difficult to find so, again, all those people need to be saluted.
But, having said that, I would be extremely remiss in not bringing up my long battle with these AJA heads to open their league to any person, male or female, black, white or yellow who has the ability to compete in their league.
Eligibility for playing AJA baseball has been restricted to those having Japanese blood and, for me, it taints this fine league with being discriminatory. And I know that there are those on this wonderful Island who strongly disagree with me but I would simply ask those who want to keep this league "closed" to those who do not have Japanese blood in them what could possibly be the downside of letting everyone play who has the ability?
Once Jackie Robinson broke the color barrier in the Big Leagues, the sport became greater than it was without those African Americans. I had the honor and thrill to play with Jackie along with the other greats Campanella, Newcomb, Black, and Gilliam and saw what discriminatory practices those players had to tolerate in the South just to play baseball. Those greats could not even stay in the same hotels (1953) as we other Dodgers nor eat at restaurants with their Dodger team mates.
Branch Rickey was a genius to have signed Robinson who was not only a great ball player but one who had to keep his mouth shut when getting called every dirty name in existence and getting knocked down or spiked. Hope all of you who read this letter got to see "42" the Jackie Robinson story as it was outstanding showing what discrimination was and still exists in certain areas.
Today in the big leagues we see players from around the world who have made baseball stronger and more watched than any time in its history. With our UCLA Alumni Baseball team we played in tournaments and against teams in France, Spain, Italy, The Prague, Puerto Rico, Cuba, Australia and Canada. Whenever we lost we showed nothing but respect for those players who beat us and they in turn showed us respect when we beat them. No fights, no demonstrations, just goodwill taking place.
My point is that our AJA baseball league could only be stronger by opening their doors to everyone. To possibly give some kid a chance of sharpening his talents in the HS off season so he can go to a major college, even with a possible scholarship. Let us never forget that 2 brothers, Tyler and Kirby Yates from Kauai reached the big leagues defying odds in the millions to get there. Maybe they did not want to play AJA baseball but wouldn't it be embarrassing if they did but could not because of the league rules? This island can only be super proud of these two young men for doing something that may never be done again.
Please, AJA baseball, eliminate your Japanese only policy and welcome anyone who wishes to play. The Japanese welcomed me to their "big leagues" for 5 years and treated me royally.

I suppose the biggest reasons for "why not" in regards to Zuckerberg is because his first interactions with the Kauai population was due to him pissing off the locals. By first building a wall and then trying to work with the local government to change things to his favor. My understanding is he eventually backed down because he was either promised a first hand tour of a lava lube or was trying to calm the waters of a social injustice that would eventually reflect poorly on a Presidential election.
In a round about way, this reinforces my idea that money plays too large of a role in politics.
Also, I see no problem in a Republican Lt. Governor and Democrat Governor. I think you have brushed the surface of why current political ladder climbers are trying so hard for the Lt. Governor position (which is odd). I feel it is a means to distance themselves from the disaster that is Rail.

So he should sign up with Colleen Hanabusa. Is what should be the procedures. I am not his friend because he’s dumb. And I already know locals who would be with Waikiki. Ask Hanabusa. What a combo. I vote for none.

You have Japanese governor and a local “umm”, what will come out of this is two people on opposite issues. What about the white man? Deal with it? Or Hawaiian? Deal with it. Cannot do any worse or better.

Whites in 1992, was 51.2 % versus Hawaiians a mere 18%. Ethnic group. Race. I don’t mind calling Bernard p.Carvalho jr. Dumb.

As it stands today, whites especially in government, still considered as more educated and a better person than Hawaiians. Truth….

May I remind this small crew or group, that Daniel Renticruz is dead. He was for Ross Kagawa. But was not white, still fell short on race. Not a white. Died in Honolulu. C/o 1982 Whs. Politics.

Mr. Rosen, has it occurred to you that referring to someone who purportedly has Native American ancestry as “Pocahontas” is offensive? Would you come up with other stereotypical names for African Americans? Asian Americans? Jewish Americans? Would you pass on a similarly disrespectful title in such cases?
