The NFL draft and the real world of jobs

The most exciting event of the professional football off season is the NFL draft. The 2018 NFL
The Buffalo Bills scored huge in  the recent
NFL draft with 2 first round picks! They may finally have
their franchisedQB, Josh Allen and on defense they
drafted  LB,Tremaine Edmunds
draft recently took place at AT and T stadium in Arlington, Texas.

I was excited for this draft since my favorite team the Buffalo Bills had 2 first round picks!
Josh Rosen wound up  being drafted
 to the Arizona Cardinals.

Something about this Quarterback
I really like, can't quite figure it out?
 Although my Buffalo Bills
did not draft him,
I will follow his career
 and buy his jersey,
don't know why I like his
 jersey so much? ;-) OY!
I was going crazy because there was a quarterback named Rosen with the first initial of J. for Josh, that the Bills were said to be interested in?
Imagine my favorite team drafting a quarterback named Rosen! Oy!   I never bought a football jersey before, however this would be the jersey's of all jersey's for me!
They say Allen is a better fit for
Buffalo, time will tell?
My dream did not transpire, my team drafted another Josh, another great quarterback from Wyoming, Josh Allen.

The Draft is fascinating to watch. The team that had the worst win-loss record the previous
season gets to draft first and hopefully gets a great player to increase their odds of doing better, from there teams can trade up or down for positions or players which makes for an exciting and  fun watch if your a NFL junkie.

If the real world of commerce was like the NFL, the high school with the worst academic record would get the chance to draft the best teachers,
and be able to improve from then on.
Teachers that graduated at the top of their class and those whom had great student teacher references would be allowed higher salaries. Great teachers would have agents that would negotiate multi- mullion dollar contracts for them.

All professions should be given the same hype and thrill as the NFL. It would be exciting for a McDonald's manager draft competing for a huge contract on TV!
Fathom resident doctors competing in a draft, or the best medical student being drafted to a needy hospital?

The real world of academics and vocations needs to follow suit in the footsteps of the
Josh Allen drafted by ther
Buffalo Bills
in the first round of the 2018 draft
# 7 as their hopeful future
franchised quarterback!
NFL draft, only then will teachers and others be paid in a fair and justified manner.
Whose that old guy talking story with Mel Rapozo?  ;-)

P.S.

Hawaii's disastrous weather, climate change or biblical prophecy
 Homes in Leilani estates subdivision
on Hawaii's Big Island  being destroyed
by lava flow from Kilauea Volcano
Kilauea Volcano on Hawaii's Big Island is  currently erupting and neighborhoods are being evacuating with lava flow burning down many homes. A 6.9 earthquake and many after shocks happened on May 4, 2018.
Kauai's north shore flooded
The earthquakes, lava flow and poisonous gasses emitted from the volcano can last for months at a time. The National guard has  been deployed to assist in the disasters on the Big island. Along with the recent record breaking  floods on Kauai and Oahu the state of Hawaii is in total crisis. On top of everything else remember back in January Hawaii had a fake ballistic missile scare.I believe the people are tired, I know I am.

One question remains, climate change or biblical prophecy? My vote goes for biblical prophecy. I can't get the image out of my mind of waking up one morning  and finding of the few friends I have left many have disappeared. I hope and pray I am not one of the souls remaining.  It's time to get  it right!

Hana Hou, (Encore)

Josh Rosen was great in college but was injury prone,
and many teams were reluctant to draft him because of
his know it all attitude.

The thought of high schools being able to "draft" good teachers by their standings in academic accomplishments may not be as rediculous as it sounds!! Pay them more and have those schools get better teachers just might be a way to better education for all.

Glenn,
Imagine a good teacher copping a contract for a 100 million for 10 years! ;-)

Yes, Kimo it is mind boggling to see all these athletes making millions of dollars (Kershaw $40 million a year and on the DL for no telling how long) and good teachers struggling to survive while having one of the most important jobs existing, teaching our young ones how to take care of our planet.

I remember back when I was a kid my father would hire some of the professional football players to work in his warehouse in the off season. NFL players had to work in the off season back in the 1960's. Now even a third string bench warmer is guaranteed a minimum of 350,000 for a season playing ball. Even a player on the practice squad earns 5,000 a week.

Good one,There is No free lunch in this world ,that's why we have so many HOMELESS THAT EVEN THE RICHEST COUNTRY IN THE WORLD CANNOT RESOLVE !!! Oy vey !!!

Uncle C's solution :

False Messiahs are detriment to the homeless with free gifts "WHY WORK WHEN YOU CAN GET THINGS FREE ?"

Best is let the Homeless do community service for Tips,GOOD WORK DESERVE GOOD TIPS WITH OUT TAX DOLLARS WHILE KEEP EDUCATING FOR A BETTER JOB.

Yes, Teachers , Base ball players or any other profession ,when they do a good job they deserve higher pay.

Yes, there is no absolutely correct pay for any given job. It’s the demand and the negotiation skills of the job seeker.

I do agree that everyone who is able, should work. In the post-depression era, the CCC (Civil Conservation Corps) and similar agencies made folks work to beautify the community, even with unnecessary work, to earn their self respect and money for life’s necessities.

The community should take care of those who are mentally unfit or physically handicapped. These conditions must be certified by physicians and regularly reviewed. Even then, a limited amount of work can be assigned to those folks.

I would go one step further and make sure that anyone getting welfare or food stamps MUST DO SOME SORT OF COMMUNITY WORK BEFORE THEY GET THAT FREEBE. IF OF COURSE THEY ARE PHYSICALLY ABLE.

Even prisoners should be made to do community work (the old chain gang) since we are giving them a place to stay, food to eat and recreation areas.

Michael Mann replied with a Letter to the latter in the May 17,2018 edition of the Garden Island news,

Treat teachers as professionals

Thank you, Kimo Rosen, for managing to cheapen the profession of teaching by trying to draw some parallel to the cheap and tawdry world of “professional” sports in your letter “The NFL draft and the real world of jobs.” I’m sure teachers around the country will appreciate it.

Perhaps we should have teachers fight for the best teaching positions in MMA-style fighting matches, too? Boy, won’t that get your blood flowing — figuratively and literally!

Allow me to offer a much simpler and logical solution: treat teachers as professionals. Pay them as professionals. Don’t force them to financially martyr themselves and then treat them like babysitters by sending your children to them day after day unprepared to learn.

I have no problem with pay being merit-based, and no problem with removing teachers with poor performance, but creating some spectacle like a draft is simply ridiculous. They do this in sports to create fake drama to catch the fancy of those who need drama. Teaching is not a sphere where drama and spectacle needs to be created.

I miss the old Michael Mann

Lighten up Mr. Mann, relax. How long have you been reading my letters? By now you should realize many of my letter's have a tongue -n-cheek theme to them.

Do I really believe an NFL style draft for all professions would be nice? Yes! Was I being facetious? Yes!

It seems the only time you write a letter of late is to bust my chops, may I suggest an original idea like your writings of the old days?

Your letters used to be profound and fun. I miss the old Michael Mann!
