"Hunger in America..." 'James "Kimo" Rosen' (Shabbat Saturday's)

James "Kimo" Rosen is back doing what he does best... enjoy...
The people volunteering and handing out the food are most times leaner than the hungry recipients.

It's heartwarming to see so many churches and non profits feeding the hungry in Hawaii and America in general.

It's ironic to see so many of the recipients, "the alleged hungry," obese and morbidly obese. The Volunteers rationing the  food are as lean as string beans. If Martians invaded the earth and saw this scenario they would think the volunteers were the hungry ones.

Does hunger truly exist in America?

How many times have you seen people in America with their ribs protruding and flies circling them?Africa in contrast to America has an epidemic of hunger, true hunger, life and death hunger.

The only thing life threatening about the hungry people in America is thatthey may die of coronary  heart disease or heart attacks if they don't get their weight down.

Hunger in America is not about being fed food, hunger in America is about not being fed spirituality or Aloha, that's what were  really hungry for and  it shows.

But my experience here is San Diego County, California, is very different. I have volunteered serving at soup kitchens and have been on the board of a homeless shelter, and I have not seen what you describe. While I have no doubt that occasional abuse occurs, my experience is that it is rare and, in any case, when I look at the balance sheet of life and weighing the balance of compassion, I would rather err on the side of compassion."

Doug, How many times have you seen the hungry in America with their ribs sticking out and flies circling them? My poimnt being is that Africa has a hunger problem, In America many hungry people are obese. Obesity is a huge problem in Hawaii and many poor people are fat because they eat the wrong foods, cheap foods, like spam, white bread and twinkies as an example...

via Facebook;"Kimo, while America is blessed to have general abundance, it is not to honestly say that we do not have hunger needs or that hunger is not a PROBLEM.

America, in a few instances, has a hunger PROBLEM.
Africa, in specific regions, has a hunger CRISIS."

obviously, my point being is that we are not as desperate as other countries by a long shot and face it, many poor people are fat... that does not happen in 3rd world countries.

via facebook;"It is true, Kimo, that "we are not as desperate as other countries" — but I would find it troubling if the United States of America sets the standard against which it measures its "problems" [using Doug's standard] by the severity of "crises" in regions of Africa, Asia or the Asian subcontinent where the concern is not with solving problems, but with survival itself."

When I lived in Honolulu I volunteered every Sunday to help my friend barbecue for the hungry at Ft. Derussy beach in Waikiki. Rich people, along with poor people came. Many rich are people are homeless in their souls, that's why many millionaires commit suicide while many poor people have homes where ever they maybe. As I have siad before many our sages including Jesus did not have houses. Homeless does not mean house-less ands house-less does not mean homeless. The people in food lines are from all walks of life, not just skin and bone starving types. And yes, I have seen many obese people in food lines and on welfare.

Harmony, exactly!
