"Dog runs out of desert and into man’s life..." 'Courtesy of Buffalo News, Ann Neville'

This Guest blog and enclosed photo is courtesy of the Buffalo News and staff writer Ann Neville, the story first appeared 10-25-11 in the Buffalo News. It tells the story of my nephew and how he was eventually adopted...

Boss(The dog) joined Jason Gross on his 2004 run across America, in a desolate area of the Navajo Reservation in Arizona.
Jason Gross, (my nephew)  of Amherst, N. Y.  ran across the United States seven years ago from central Park in New York city to his final destination of the Santa Monica Pier (over 3,000 miles) to raise funds for diabetes research. His cause received more than $37,000, and he found a best friend.

Aloha to everyone in Greater Western New York,

It has been 35 years since  I left Buffalo.  Since the Buffalo News has been available online I have been an avid reader, it is often said that that you can take take the Boy from Buffalo, but you cant take the Buffalo from the boy.

The recent article by Ann Neville, " Dog runs out of desert and into mans life," Tells a story of true love. The love between man and dog, it is  said that dog is mans best friend. Dogs are always happy to see us, We tell them our most inner thoughts and confide in them since we know they will not break our trust in each other.
The story of Jason and his best friend Boss tells a story of bonding, a story of true love and  a story that is worth telling over and over again.
I recently Adopted a dog myself and like Jason would find life not near as satisfying without a dog. It is said there is a missing chapter in the bible, there should be a chapter about the animal  that gives unconditional love without prejudice to the rich, poor, black, white, able or disabled.  Could it be that the bible has a subliminal message about God? After-all Dog is God Backwards.
Pets have a way of putting a smile on our face and just make us feel good. Dogs give you unconditional love and  have been shown to be psychologically, emotionally, and physically beneficial. Caring for a four legged companion can provide a sense of purpose and fulfillment and lessen feelings of loneliness for anyone.
I saw Jason and Boss complete their cross country trek to help find a cure for diabetes, I was at the finish line in Santa Monica.  I am Jason's Uncle and I have diabetes.
Please consider adopting a dog or as in Jason's case the dog adopted him, either way your sure to feel better about life.

To order a calendar with Boss the dog as one of the months for 2012 go to the  Black-hat website at http://www.rezdog.petfinder.org/.  In the meantime, here is ordering info: Taking orders at Dogs of the Navajo, P.O. Box 3843, Chinle, AZ, 86503, send a check for $15 made out to Black-hat Humane Society." Tell them you heard about the calendar, Boss and Jason on 'dakinetalk!'

(Please note I signed the article Jim Rosen, because back in the 1970's that's how people knew me...)

Loved the original; love that you reprint on Dakinetalk.
Usually Dakinetalk blogs turn into letters, nice to see the traffic flows both ways!"

Doug, from one publisher to another, I called the Buffalo News to ask permission to run their story as a blog, they said great, just lead your readers to the Buffalo News URL, so many people these days violate the copyright laws and get away with it, when in actually it's a pretty simple act to do properlyand pono (righteius)

Via facebook;"Kimo -- you are certainly right that many do copy others' copyrighted material without permission or attribution. Having taken some wise advice, I have "googled" myself and found copyrighted material of mine copied for use elsewhere. But there have also been instances (rare) where they contacted me in advance to request permission."
