Bullies come from all walks of life...
What does the word “Bullied” Mean??
Recently there has been a lot of discussion about bullies at school. Here in Buffalo New York, a huge campaign has sprung up against them since a young boy who had been bullied all his life suddenly decided to take his own life this past week. Having endured constant harassment since his young elementary school days, he could no longer take the abuse any longer. His idol, Lady Gaga, became aware of his plight and has taken a stance against bullies and the pain they have caused these young adults for many years.
Being bullied is not a new thing; bullies in school dates back to the beginning of time. Always, the different, the weak, and individuals, that did not conform have always been picked on. There is one big difference from the bullies from the past and the modern age bully; now the group of bullies have the biggest platform, the world wide web! Back in the day when a student was harassed in school, it stayed in the school. In some ways it could be handled differently and if it got to be unbearable, the student could always transfer to another school or fight back. Now there is no escaping the constant harassing and embarrassment that follows someone everywhere. Somehow, knowing that the whole world can join in on the act can become overwhelming for some people to endure. There is no escaping the mean and indifference of some people any longer.
I think the Internet super highway has opened up the world of knowledge to many and has been a useful tool in amazing ways but it has also opened the door to predators and unsavory people out there as well. A little too much knowledge can become a scary thing sometimes if abused and in the case of those bullies out there, we need to find a way to take a much more serious stance against them or this problem will escalate to gigantic proportions. If you are a bully out there…get a life and stop being a follower, a bully will not act out if they don’t have an audience!!
