"Every Food truck I have visited on Kaua'i is priced way to high..."

Food trucks are known and famous for large portions of ono grindz (delicious food) at very reasonable prices.

Food trucks do not have the overhead of a conventional restaurant, therefore one would think the savings in overhead would be passed onto the consumer as I have witnessed on Oahu.

Every Food truck I have visited on Kaua'i is priced way to high. There's a relatively new food truck I pass by everyday, however after looking at the menu, it was the same old story,  expensive! prices.
The only thing that looked reasonable was  the kids menu, however you must be 12 or under, isn't that discrimination?

The icing on the cake is  the audacity to have a mayonnaise jar on their counter in sloppy handwriting that  says "TIPS!". My only tip to these food trucks is lower your prices and think volume or go out of business  trying to get five star prices in a fast food environment.

Then the audacity to have a rusty old mayonnaise jar with sloppy handwriting that says, "Tips!" here's a tip... fill in da blank___________________

Jimbo, you and I talked of restaurants the other day...roach coaches are becoming the norm for this island....safer to dine at mcD's than these. Price wise better too. Hell you don't need to even to get dressed up for a nice dinner on this island anymore, much less wash your hands first.....Do they pay their fair share of taxes or employ anybody.

Good question Rick, I am sure some pay employee's while others don't. and like the farmer's market, how much do they really report?

The owners of most all of the food trucks work harder and more hours in the day than you probably ever have. Their food is hand made with aloha. Not the mass produced toxic sludge you call food at McShitHole.

In Honolulu I loved the food trucks and often frequented them, especially the one outside Queens hospital, They always had long lines offered quality food, large portions at reasonable prices. I find food trucks on Kauai charging just as much or more than a sit down restaurant. yet they have no restrooms or wash facilities.? Where do the owners go to the bathroom? I do not see lines of people at any of these food trucks on Kauai. $11.00 for a burger is as little steep. I also do not like the rusty lid mayonnaise jars with sloppy handwriting asking for a tip when there is no waiter or waitress or wash facilities. my tip is again,, lower prices and quit asking for five star prices in a fast food environment.

lol, I take it you've never been to a 5 star restaurant

Metaphor Dan. In the past when i was the publisher of Alaska People Magazine, my ex girlfriend and myself did restaurant reviews for many five star restaurants in Alaska. That's why I can appreciate all you and Marta do, and do it well! great photos and excellent reviews. We always called our restaurant reviews, restaurant Highlights. In our magazine we only highlighted the good. and yes I have been to many fine dining restaurants. I usually don't care for all the attention.

I tend to enjoy good dining. Tip 20 to 30%. Wash my hands and hope the cook washes also. I love the over the counter cash transaction with out receipt. My comment about mcD's was all the the services and basic cleanliness. When I watch a chef run behind the truck to change a propane bottle, hand food out and make change with out gloves then grab paddies bare handed and through them on the grille I order a 3 dollar bottle of water. As for "Tips" in a jar....The chef needs to squeeze that buffalo a little harder. I tip my city trash service driver with a good bottle of wine every year at Christmas. I will also say that all truck service are not like this, their good service people making a living, but one bad apple changed my approach for all. The island is always asking for new higher end restaurants to replace the boarded up one. But they just don't have the economy on Kauai to support. And I also see No Lines at the trucks. Good Luck...and don't forget to pay the property taxes on the mobil property....The amount of work I do or did is also made with the lack of word choices as in mac----hole. Once again Good Luck, you can always use the 2 in 5 rule and change the name...Just kidding.

The question remains, do food trucks serve GMO's? just kidding! ;D

Rick Comstock said...

Yes but not to worry there safe for now.

Dan Lane said...

Actually, the food tricks on Kauai that are worth going to do not use GMOs. Just sayin...

KimoRosen said...

which ones are those?

Rick Comstock said...

"the ones without vegetables or that yellow starchy stuff. :)"

KimoRosen said...

as long as they have plastic doggie bags! ;D)

Rick Comstock said...

"I got 4 doggies and they would love being able to eat at a truck with the chickens. :)"

"Speaking of food, the wife is taking me to that JJ's place in a minute or two....need to clean up and enjoy."

KimoRosen said...

Bon apetit bruddah. Just remember you could spend the same or more at a food truck without washrooms or wait people.

Rick Comstock said...

Just like to see people working and smiling I guess....Jimbo I also got a back up plan...Duke's 50 and a 15 tip.....I buy my friends...just kidding...

Rick Comstock said...

Jimbo the extra charge at the trucks is for (something) a seat at a picnic table, ants and flies.....Bring your own music!

Rick Comstock said...

Back already.....I think my sauerkraut was GMO.....JJ's not bad when you think value of service to dollar spent..... and they still make a profit.....

just got back from my walk, I walk past Kojima's food truck, the Mexican one and the Greek one, during lunch time, maybe one customer! Why? Prices too high and small portions... The whole concept of a food truck is to get a deal! They have less overhead, pass it on to consumer, better to sell 500 plates at $6.00 each then 20 plates at $9.00 each. maybe you net less but overall you do much better and customer will comwe back. I never see local cars at the food trucks, always car rentals...

Rick Comstock said...

Your math is correct, observations truthful and not only get a deal but have a quick turn around.....Opps I'm sorry the trucks are the missing link between the local hangout 7/11 and gas station markets and they got to be better because the charge as much or more than restaurant. 30 plates @$6 but that would be more work, now how works harder? I would say that they need 30 people per worker in the truck just to make ends meet....$2.50 worth of food for $9 is a 300% profit subtract burdens of 40% still leaves a $6 profit minimum wage job...
