New Money

The big news for all  you politically correct junkies out there is that Harriet Tubman a black slave who ran the "underground railroad and  was an American abolitionist, humanitarian, and an armed scout and spy for the United States Army during the American Civil War will be replacing Andrew Jackson on the $20.00 bill come 2020.
Anti-slavery activist Harriet Tubman
to replace Jackson on $20 bill

It seems almost every ethnic group wants in on the action.

My ethnicity of the Jewish people, want to replace Abraham Lincoln on the $5.00 bill with Albert Einstein.
Many claim honest Abe was actually Jewish? It is said he was shot in the Tempo-Temple (sic)
Read USA Today article;
"Andrew Jackson will move to the back of the $20 to make room for the abolitionist."
http://www.usatoday.com/story/news/politics/2016/04/20/report-lew-considered-anthony-10-bill/83274530/

Every Ethnicity wants their own on currency.
The Jewish people are said to want Einstein!

I see no reason to  change history, I am not for changing what's been a stronghold and tradition for many years.
The Donald is said to be
considering himself
to grace the 100.00 bill

 if elected president!

Make new denominations of currency to  put these  people of honor on--or put them on postage stamps or name airports or buildings after them. Why are we  deleting history to replace it with other history? Adding history is good, deleting history is not.

The Irish, the Russians, the Germans, the Italians and the Hawaiians to mention a few all want  their own kind  on currency.

The Jews want Einstein, Oy vey
The Hawaiians want Duke Kahanamoku, Mahalo Nui Loa.

The list is endless, I say add them all, but lets not lose track and delete the history we have.

Whose going to argue with the Italians?

The Italians want Al Capone, whose going to argue that? Not me!

Correction, an earlier edition stated Tubman was replacing Alexander Hamilton, I stand corrected, Tubman is replacing Andrew Jackson. Thanks to Steven M Eayrs for pointing that out! wink emoticon

Much mahalo, Kimo. I have no idea how you continually do all you do and in such an efficient manner. Why is it that our only paper will not take a page from your modus operandi and copy it???

Sometimes political correct is actually the right thing to do.. other times its just to sway votes.. I see this more of an issue of replacing Jackson, who should of been replaced years ago, than who replaces him.. Tubmans a good option but I think even better would of been some Cherokee chief or others, who might of been involved in the lawsuit against Jacksons move to kick the Cherokee's off land that the government had agreed previously said they could live on. The natives won the supreme Court case, but that did not prevent president Jackson from ordering the army to throw them out of their houses, and send them on a forced march westward, in the middle of a harsh winter, while the white settlers took what belonged to the Cherokee's, burned their houses, or just moved in.. Also over 25% of the Cherokee died in the march forced by gun point by USA troops...Jackson was responsible for all this, even after losing the court battle, yet never in his lifetime had to answer to it.. He thought he was a king, and not a president.. So....sorry... I don't see it as...every ethnicity wanting to be on currency..And would bet that most are represented somewhere on our current currency. That is all except maybe the original inhabitants of the land. So not much humor in that..

When I was a kid I used to collect Indian head pennies. The late 1800's and early 1900's featured indians on pennies.. Also in 1899 an Indian Chief was featured on the $5.00 bill

wow be nice to own a few of those silver certificates now.. (-: I should point out that even when this was issued on that $5 bill, it was for a generic indian, and even then was more of an insult, because if I remember right they were trying to depict Lakota and put the headdress of a Pawnee on the bill, which is a long standing enemy of the Lakota.. So even then they didn't bother to know enough about the people to depict them correctly. Just a generic indian..... as if they are all the same. Could of easily put an actual real Chief, who took good care of his people, or was a great military genius...but that would be an acnowledgement they were real and equal people at one time..... and of course Jackson did not think of them as real or equal, or he and others would not of done what they did to them.... (not too different than the way Hitler looked at the Jews)

I don't think they issued money as an insult. I believe for it's time it was well intended. Everybody back then wasn't trying to be politically correct as it seems people try to be nowadays. I believe it was issued out of respect for the Indians as a whole. Definitely not an insult, it was an honor!

Steven M Eayrs, the reason we (you) are not swarmed with comments is that many of dakinetalk commenters have either un-friended me or quit commenting on my blog because of my political choices. They believe if I don't think or believe in what they believe I have entered the dark side and need intervention, Ouch!

Guess its always the chance you take for speaking your mind.. but I trust our friendship goes beyond having to believe everything you do, and know you respect me likewise.. Somehow those who claim to be the most tolerant among us seem to prove to be the most intolerant of those who disagree with them.... such is the world we live in...... And I say that knowing I amnot a fan of Trump. bless you bro...

Steven M. Eayrs said...

But.... back in the day.. I will disagree again... ha... we were still in the process of exterminating the first nations people on this land at the time this coin was issued... so the plots a little thicker than that...
