Politicians should join together, too

Everyone knows that disasters bring out the best in us humans.

Hurricane Iniki brought out the Aloha spirit with neighbor helping neighbor, and we hear stories of the likes on mainland America of the recent devastation caused by Hurricane Harvey and Irma bringing people of all races and religions together. 911 is another great example of unity after destruction came to our great country.

Why can't politics take a lesson from what happens during disasters?
I endorse  Mel Rapozo
 as the next Mayor
for Kauai county.
Mel can bring people
together and do what's
best for Kauai. If you
live on Kauai
please vote for
Mel Rapozo!
Instead of both major political parties disagreeing, why can't they come together for the benefit of America? Maybe it's time they realize they are the real disaster and come together as the American people come together in their time of disasters.

Enough is enough.

May God help America

Hana Hou, Encore!
911 was devastating to America. Americans pull together
in trying times whether it's natural disasters or criminal disasters like 911.
God bless America!

Sometimes politicians do come together in disasters. I just read government response has become much more efficient at mitigating disasters because of what we learned from Sept. 11 & Katrina. Fewer people are dying, They just got to do it even more so because storms are expected to get even worse.

You missed my point, I was saying politicians need to come together overall as people inclusive of politicians do during disasters. Granted we all come together in time of disaster politicians and lay citizen.

Kimo,

Global warming (less rain here), ocean plastic and Fukushima pollution are going to have a nasty impact on and around Kauai. I don't think they are on Mel's radar.

I doubt if Mel is going to be on the right side of the big issues - including GMO's, slowing tourism, curtailing development and achieving a steady state population.

Did you vote for Trump and not Bernie? I do remember you were supportive of the Superferry a decade ago.

So I am less than sure of your political judgement.

Best wishes.

J.M.,
To answer your question,Did you vote for Trump and not Bernie? Bernie was not on the ballot if I remember correctly? It was Trump vs. Vs, Clinton. So no I didn't vote for Bernie? Wasn't running? ;-). In Hawaii it doesn't matter who you voter for anyway, all our electoral votes always go democrat....

What you don't understand about Mel is he is a doer. Every time I have had an issue with the county and contacted the county at large Mel is always the first to respond and always resolves the situation with satisfaction.

As I have said before, you ain't gonna change me, and I ain't gonna change you, that's the beauty of America, we can have our own opinions and beliefs. You are the Ying, and I am the Yang! ;-)

God bless America!
Aloha,
Kimo

The politicians are a reflection of the people. People need to be willing to change and listen to each other instead of just talking over each other. Today compromise is seen as weakness and the loudest voice tends to drown out all others.

Glad that we are on the same page with who we want for Mayor. I have been a long time supporter of Mel since I first met him about 15 years ago and I think he would be a fine Mayor. We have our differences but we mostly agree on all issues.

Kimo,

I voted for Bernie in the Democratic primary. Then voted for Jill Stein in for the election.

It’s funny you see it as “Ying" and “Yang”. I think you mean Yin and Yang. I am apolitical. I see no solutions through politics. I am trying to prepare for the failure of politics… Growing food, producing energy, collecting water.

Good luck with the “good ol’ county boys”!
