"Did Obama throw the debate..?" 'James "Kimo" Rosen

Maybe just maybe President Obama threw the debate
because on  the day following all the News stations
are running Romney's lies, and there were many.

Aloha, Check out my opinion article in the October 9, 2012 edition of the  Kaua'i Garden Island News,"Did Obama throw the competition?" (same as this blog)

Is it possible that President Obama purposely let Mitt Romney win the first presidential debate of 2012? Did Obama throw the competition?

For those familiar with reality TV  many times  a competitor will throw a competition because sometimes winning has more negative consequences  because all focus is on the winner, and when the winner is telling lie after lie and it's being repeated all over the media the aftermath could be devastating.

Maybe just maybe President Obama threw the debate because on  the day following all the News stations are running Romney's lies, and there were many.

Although I believe the President did not  win the debate, we all knew he could have and probably should have. Did he throw the debate on purpose?

I believe the aftermath of all the News station reporting all the inaccuracies and lies that Romney spouted will win the President more votes.

Could this be  a strategy by a genius  chess type  mind 10 steps ahead of everyone with a huge IQ or did Obama really mess up?

After sleeping on this I believe Obama threw the debate, with two more debates to come he will come out dancing  like a prize fighter on Prozac.

Pretty gusty move Mr. President, I hope it works...

"Interesting hypothesis....

What would BIG BIRD say?"

I'll have to check my twitter account and see what Big Bird tweeted! ;D) Actuallt Doug a little tongue and cheek , However I cannot believe Obama could look that bad, he must had tried to look bad, he's steps ahead of alll of us?

Douglas Dunn said...

""Well, I don't think Obama intentionally took a fall...

If you look at the history of Presidential debates, the incumbent almost always loses the first debate. He is busy running the country and doesn't have time for extensive debate prep like the challenger, who has also had recent primary debating experience. And the President has been living four years in a bubble where no one has challenged him directly. There have only been six first debates by a sitting incumbent before last night's:

1976 — Incumbent Gerald Ford says Eastern Europe is not dominated by Soviet Union.
Challenger Jimmy Carter wins debate and election.

1980 — Incumbent Jimmy Carter faces challenger Ronald Reagan and his "There ya go again" and "are you better off than you were four years ago. Challenger Reagan wins debate and election.

1984 — Incumbent Ronald Reagan badly defeated in first debate. Comes back strong in second debate and still wins in landslide.

1988 [no incumbent]

1992 — Incumbent George H.W. Bush keeps looking at watch. Looks nervous. Loses debate and election.

1996 — [EXCEPTION] Incumbent Bill Clinton crushes Bob Dole in both the debate and the election. Can we get this guy to come back as a designated hitter?

2000 [no incumbent]

2004 — Incumbent George W. Bush gets totally trashed by John Kerry in first debate. Squeaks by to win general election.

2008 [no incumbent]

In the entire history of the presidency, there have been six first debates with incumbents. The incumbents went on to win three out of six of the elections, but decisively lost the first debates in five out of six."

Doug do you know all this stuff offf the top of your head, or did you do some googling? either way mahalos for the facts.

Douglas Dunn said...

"Kimo — I often use Google or other research tools when preparing material for online posts or otherwise; in this instance, since I had personally watched all of the above debates, including much media commentary at the time refreshed with updates each time there is a new round of debates (such as this week) I did not need to again look up those details in this case. The above analysis is similar to what Rachel Maddow provided in a recent show and, while I did not refer specifically to the show again, it was still fresh in my mind, coupled with the memory of having watched those debates."

"I don't think he threw it, but you could ask him. Of course if he says no, is he telling a lie? (-: You deserve a free Obama-phone for your support. oh... and if you get one check out the special teleprompter feature that pops up whenever you pause too long."

"Steven, the whole tired, worn out "teleprompter" thing is really lame. Do you understand that every single president since Eisenhower has used the teleprompter? There was no president more scripted than professional actor Ronald Reagan. President Obama routinely gives live stand-up press conferences in which he gives lengthy, unscripted answers and, unlike Bush (who gave far fewer and gave shorter answers), allows follow-up questions, which Bush did not.

And seriously, Steven, do you want me to add a post with some video links to gaffes Bush made WITH the teleprompter? Do you understand that wRongney always uses a teleprompter for prepared speeches?

Every time I see someone whining about the teleprompter, I know the person is intellectually bankrupt and is desperately trying to say SOMETHING but cannot find anything of actual substance"

Steven M. Eayrs said...

"Guess I pushed a button. The teleprompter thing was a joke about the free cell phones, and made in light of the recent debate. Was not whining about anything and not said in desperation, by any means. Likewise there are a lot of "really lame" comments made by those in support of both canidates, that should not be taken too serious...Somehow some of you have arogantly decided that the only way anyone could support anyone different than your choice, must be because we can't tell a "lame" comment when we hear one. I believe thinking Obama throwing the debate also to be a lame thought, and not taken seriously. Really doubt Jim takes the idea all that serious."

Steven M. Eayrs said...

"Sorry, Steven, but the teleprompter thing just keeps coming up all the time. It has been going on since 2008, when McCain also used a teleprompter. It is old, it is not funny, and it is not a joke. It is a childish substitute for the capacity for intelligent discussion. Any time someone makes a derogatory teleprompter comment about Obama, in demonstrates utter desperation. It is about on par with birther stuff."

Steven M. Eayrs said...

" I agree Doug...about as childish as the current comments that the only reason Romney won the debate is because hes dishonest."

Douglas Dunn said...

"A person who LIES cheats and flip-flops IS DISHONEST.
wRongney repeatedly LIED, misstated facts, misstated what is in his own record with the Massachusetts law of Romneycare he enacted, lied about what is in Obamacare, and completely and repeatedly misrepresented his own economic and tax policies, contradicting what was still up on his own web page the next day, as his advisors tried to "clarify" what he meant in the debate.

And the debate rules clearly stated that candidates were not allowed to bring in any props, notes or prepared materials, but watch the 22-second clip of wRongney as he approaches the lectern.

The man is a liar, flip-flopper and cheat.
There is not an honest bone in his body.

"wow! well I guess this is a one sided conversation.. Next your going to tell me every comment Obama said held no 1/2 truths? All of these guys are masters at saying what they want you to hear, and all there comments are only true it taken in the context they say them in."

Steven M. Eayrs said...

"It was a hankerchief."

Douglas Dunn said...

" Then why didn't he blow his nose with it.
The timing, just as he comes out, and the movement clearly prove you wrong.
If you fall for that lame excuse, I got a bridge in Brooklyn for sale"

The heck with the presidentizal debates, How about a nationally televised debate with Mr. Eayrs and Mr. Dunn!

Steven M. Eayrs said...

"He did wipe his nose with it, but your bais news sources didn't show it... Just can't believe you can't allow to think Obama simply lost. For whatever reason he just didn't win. Is its a toll bridge? I want a toll bridge. (-:"

Steve, politics is a game and like football when your team loses you still support them. I admit my guy lost the debate as far as debates go, period. I was being somewhat tongue and cheek in this blog, but just a little part of me say's maybe, why because I like my team win or lose.

" I didn't say Obama won (or didn't lose).
Clearly he did, and just about every Democrat has acknowledged that, unlike RepubliCONs who NEVER acknowledge when one of theirs stubs his toe, no matter how painfully obvious.

That said, the take-away message from the debate for UNDECIDED people who don't like politics, don't care about politics (no matter how much public policies affect them) and probably didn't watch the debate but saw and heard the memes that followed was that Obama lost the debate [yawn] and Mitt wRongney, on his own, without any trap sprung by a sleeping Obama, volunteered that he wants to KILL BIG BIRD. For undecideds, that's getting pesonal."

Steven M. Eayrs said...

" negative generalizations that include "all", don't make for good arguements, regardless if your talking about race or politics. Plenty find fault with their own, but you just don't throw your brother out in front of a pack of wolves. I would argue that in light of the huge debt that big bird needs to be taken off of state welfare, but not killed. Big bird is well.... a big bird now, and making loads of money. He can provide for himself...(or is she a he?) I also realize he represents peanuts compared to the huge wastes out there, but may need to also take the hit in order to turn things around."

Steven M. Eayrs said...

I have to go now....not getting my work done and need to make enough to pay my share.

KimoRosen said...

Undecides? How can anyone in this and age still be undecided? Do you know any un-decideds? I don't. Plus the undecides probably forget to register. I believe some people may change sides but don't believe at this point anyone woth a television, or computer is undecided. It's just a gimmick, "Undecided" Names me one! ;D)

" "Hi Pat. Missed seeing you at the jam session in Montana. Had the wedding rehersal that night. I agree it goes a lot farther back than the last 4 years, but have not been encouraged with the direction of the last 4 either. We're passing a huge debt down to the next generation. The war machine is a big part of the budget problems, but there may have to be cuts across the board elsewhere too... I like PBS and NPR. Listen to them often, but they should be able to stand on their own, and if the town I live in is a good example NPR would live because the locals, including myself would fill the gap. haven't you known me long enough to spell my name right? I do distinctly recall Obama promising in 08 to get out, but now we are more "in" than when we were under Bush. I still recall the good old days (2008) of 345 billion deficits. These wars will end only on the return of Jesus. Ever since the "fall" and the first death. man has been killing each other, and it has not mattered whether we have had a D or an R in the white house. As long as the focus is on "self", others must suffer, and the only determining factors as to which "self interest" raises to the top is the level of commitment, strengh of will one is capable of and number of sheep one can persuade to submit their will. Stalin could not have killed 60 million on his own. It is a matter of attitude. Stalin may not have had the attitude he did had it not been for the likes of Nietzsche, who declared "God is dead, and Marx, who stated that religion is nothing more than "opiate for the masses". As we become more secularized the elevation of "self" becomes more prominent in our attitudes, along with the notion that life has no meaning."

"I like the idea of helping them rebuild, and agriculture projects, etc.. but it seems as our military pulls out the taliban seems to accelerate the death count. Not only their people but ours. Have to wonder how long it will take for them to destroy the progress that is made, once we are gone. Not an encouraging thing.. And the question at this point is not who to blame for being there, but how and when can we leave."
