The Coronavirus is no joke

Hawaii is a major tourist destination for Chinese and Japanese visitors and has been on high alert. Last week it was discovered that a Japanese national

couple was visiting Oahu and Maui and upon returning to Japan both eventually contacted the Coronavirus also known as Covid-19 and the Wuhan virus. They may have contacted it before leaving on their trip since the virus has a 14-day incubation period.

This means the airplane, hotels, tourist destinations, restaurants, everywhere they went on vacation is susceptible to the virus. (Those poor housekeepers that made their beds.) Some people may be carriers others not, with all the visitors from around the world traveling to Hawaii in the winter months, this is catastrophic.

Checking temperatures at the airport for arriving passengers does no good since anybody can be carrying the virus with no symptoms for 14 days.

germaphobe for many years, I quit shaking hands with people and prefer fist pumps or the Japanese custom of bowing. Be vigilant, wash your hands frequently, cover your mouth when coughing, don't touch your eyes or mouth and use a surgical mask if you're not feeling well and must go out.

I  travel on the bus and move my seat every time somebody next to me or behind me coughs or sneezes. I have noticed many employees in the supermarkets, big box stores, and local restaurants coughing and clearing their throats. This makes me paranoid and makes me wonder if we are heading towards a plague?

66,000 people have been diagnosed with the virus and 1500 have died as of this writing so far from the Coronavirus. The internet is filled with jokes about the virus.
Although not a joking matter, it helps many get through these trying times.

Then again with all the natural disasters we have seen almost daily on the news, it would not surprise me to see a plague-- since many believe we are living at the end of times, and biblical prophecy is finally coming to fruition.

 A Doctor's advice about coronavirus:
Mahalo to Chester Lau, AKA, 'Unc' for this public service announcement!
1. It is pretty large in size (cell is about 400-500nm diameter), so any normal mask (not just the  N95 feature) should be able to filter it out. However, when someone who's infected sneezes in front of you, it will take a great 3 meters (about 10 feet) before it drops to the ground and is no longer airborne.
2. When the virus drops on a metal surface, it will live for at least 12 hours. So remember if you come in contact with any metal surface, wash your hands with soap thoroughly.
3. The virus can remain active on fabric for 6-12 hours. Normal laundry detergent should kill the virus. For winter clothing that does not require daily washing, you can put it out under the sun to kill the virus.
About the symptoms of pneumonia caused by Coronavirus:
1. It will first infect the throat, so the throat will have the dry sore throat feeling which will last for 3 to 4 days
2. Then the virus will blend into the nasal fluid and drips into the trachea and enter the lungs, causing pneumonia. This process will take 5 to 6 days.
3. With pneumonia, comes high fever and difficulty in breathing. The nasal congestion is not like the normal kind. You will feel like you are drowning in water. It's important to go seek immediate medical attention if you feel like this.
About prevention:
1. The most common way of getting infected is by touching things in public, so you must wash your hands frequently. The virus can only live on your hands for 5-10 mins, but a lot can happen in those 5-10 mins (you can rub your eyes or pick your nose unwittingly).
2. Aside from washing your hands frequently, you can gargle with Betadine Sore Throat Gargle to eliminate or minimize the germs while they are still in your throat (before dripping down to your lungs).
Folks, take extra care and drink plenty of water.

I like how you emphasized it's serious and said it's no joking matter, but then provided a lot of jokes because jokes help us cope. I'm interested in the lethality rate which I read is about 5% or 20 % if your 60 or older. Not great odds, but a bit better than even, (and deaths may be high in China due to their overwhelmed medical care system.) My neighbor & friend is convinced that noni juice will prevent or cure it. He says it cured all viruses when he used to have birds, and his vets were afraid noni would put them out of business. I don't like the taste of the juice but take it in a dried form called fruit leather. We have both upped our doses even though Hawaii is still considered low risk. You can't be too careful.

It’s going to affect tourism! I think it’s chemical warfare.

KimoRosen said...

Wow! Why?

Nicki P. said...

It came from their military biochemical facility in Wuhan. Not from the exotic food market. I have posted a few articles, and we won’t ever know the whole truth but read with an open mind...remember the recent arrests of Harvard Professor and military army personnel posing as students, the borders closed off to Russia, the 1000 bed facilities built in 10 days, the USA evacuations? They know more than they can share with public and don’t want to create mass hysteria

KimoRosen said...

Crazy! So are they trying to destroy their own people and the world?

Nicki P. said...

It somehow is linked to the recent arrest of the Harvard Professor who was employed by the Wuhan Biochemical facility. I am not sure how. This is written in Chinese and English and may read like a spy novel but...makes more sense, what do you think? Please read all of it.

Quite the conspiracy theory? ‘Politifact’ says it’s FALSE?

Of course we know they dispute that. It’s not on mainstream media but you also know how manipulative they are. They can’t have mass hysteria.

Nicki P. said...

I believe there are some facts in there. I do believe there is a connection to the arrest and exposure of California pension

How can everything be a conspiracy theory? Did we land a man on the moon? Did Oswald shoot Kennedy? Is Elvis still alive? I love conspiracy theories and want to believe them but sometimes, a banana is just a banana! Now you got me thinking?

Nicki P. said...

Haha yes, but there is something larger than a virus from a market going on for this level of hazmat outfits and isolation.

Good point! Mahalo for all this info!

Kimo,
Great letter. I sent in today’s letter the day before your letter printed, so I did not know about it, but we seem to be on the same page, as usual.
Personally, I believe that the warnings about terrible things coming in Matthew 24 and Revelation were primarily about Judah and Jerusalem in 67-70 AD. Notice Matt. 24:34, “Truly, I say to you, this generation will not pass away until all these things take place.” The most common time frame for the word “generation” in the Bible is 40 years. Jesus spoke this warning 40 years before the destruction of Jerusalem happened. Jesus also gave them instructions on how to save themselves (Matt.24:17). It is sad that more people did not follow Jesus’s instructions to get out while you can. Besides being God’s Son on a mission to save the whole world, Jesus was also a Jewish Rabbi, whose first concern was for his own people.
The book of Revelation also connects to the destruction of Jerusalem. As just one example, Caesar Nero’s name in Hebrew is exactly the number 666 (each letter was a number in the days before Arabic numbers). The common dating of Revelation is around 95 AD, but this has very weak support. I think that, John (like Jesus) warned us about the destruction before it happened.
I believe those warnings are also useful for all generations that follow, especially, when the context is understood.
Regarding the end of times for this epoch, my own guess is that Jesus gave us a job to do in Matt. 28:18-20 and he is giving us the time we need to accomplish this great commission. When all the ethnic communities of the world have been given the good news of Jesus and taught to obey his instructions, then maybe the end might come. Meanwhile, the followers of Jesus have a job to do and we need more time to finish it.

“since many believe we are living at the end of times, and biblical prophecy is finally coming to fruition.” These are probably the same folks who send money to televangelists so they can buy that new jet. You can’t fix stupid. Let scientists and those who have the proper educational training and experience do their jobs and we will emerge eventually, just like with the Ebola virus scare.
