Everybody is now a doctor

I’m sitting having lunch with my unvaccinated friend at the Costco fine dining outdoor cafe as we discuss the topic that has been on the top of the news for well over a year.

We are enjoying our $1.50-1/4 lb. plus hot dogs with refillable soft drinks as she tells me

that after I receive my booster shot she cannot be near me for two weeks because it's her understanding I am contagious with the virus, also I will die because of the booster? Ironically I have been tolerating her unvaccinated status the last year, go figure?

To add insult to injury as we are indulging in our weiner-fest she tells me the reason

she won’t be vaccinated is that she doesn't know what’s in those vaccines since she’s concerned as to what goes into her body as she takes the last bite of her weiner!

This friend reminds me of a recent quote that went viral on social media:
" I'm fully vaccinated and boostered. No, I don't know "what's in it". Neither this vaccine nor the ones I had as a child. Nor do I know what's in the 11 secret herbs and spices at KFC.
I also don't know exactly what's in Ibuprofen or Tylenol -- they just cure my

hangovers, headaches & my pains.
I don't know what's in tattoo ink, botox, and fillers, or every ingredient in my soap,

shampoo, or deodorants. I don’t know the long-term effect of mobile phone use, or whether or not that restaurant I just ate at REALLY used clean foods and washed their hands.
There are a lot of things I don't know.
I do know one thing: life is short. Very short. And I, personally, still want to do things. I want to travel and hug people without fear, and find a little feeling of life "before".
Throughout my life,

I've been vaccinated against many diseases. Measles, mumps, rubella, polio, chickenpox, hepatitis, pneumonia, influenza, tetanus, and shingles.
My parents (and I) trusted science, and never had to suffer through or transmit any of those said diseases.
I'm vaccinated. Not to please the government. Not to make other people do it. But I don't want to:
Die from Covid-19, clutter a hospital bed if I get sick, not be able to hug my loved ones, have to test routinely, or live my life in fear."

It seems ever since Covid arrived that everyone has served a medical internship, residency, and received a medical degree. Doctors spend four years in undergraduate college, another four years in medical school, one year of internship,
Dr. Steve Rogoff

and residency can range from three to seven years depending on what type of doctor they chose to become.  Your PCP may go through three years of residency whereas your neurosurgeon may go up to seven years. That means your average doctor has 12-16 years of education! Believe it or not internet warriors and the uneducated are advising people to not be vaccinated against the better judgment of medical science.

I recently saw a clip on the news where doctors and nurses are being threatened by patients

because the patients are not being given the medications they feel they need to cure their Covid. The unvaccinated patients actually think they know better what to prescribe themselves than medical personnel. It seems everybody is now a doctor!

Believe it or not, I just heard Dr. Faucci

is recommending a booster because he owns stock in Pfizer and wants to buy a new yacht? People actually believe this.

A big Mahalo to all the front-line workers, restaurant workers, grocery store employees, and medical personnel that have had to put up with the general public the last couple of years.

A toast to returning to normalcy.

Dr. Seager will be sorely missed

 When 100 people

were recently questioned on a  Family Feud episode; who are you most afraid of, the top three answers were, the dentist, the police, and my mother-in-law.

Ironically, contrary

to what most people dislike, I used to look forward to going to the dentist!
My dentist had a zen-like aura about him, we always engaged in minimum conversation during appointments.  It wasn’t the few words that counted it was the quality of the words.

He would frequently ask during my many visits during my 16 years as a patient;

how many more years did I think I would live? I would answer him with the same question.  I can’t remember if either of us ever answered the question?

We would talk about the hippie commune life of the ’60s and spiritual things. He would say he enjoyed my frequent editorials in the Garden Island newspaper, so of course, I had to like the guy.

The best part about this dentist, he was the best at what he did.  Whether he was prepping me

for a crown, fitting me for a partial, filling a cavity, or extracting a tooth.
He was the only Dentist I know that ever started you on antibiotics before he extracted your tooth. I asked him why? He said this way an infection is less prone to set in... I knew this guy was genius!

I always looked forward to our visits. He always made me smile when he said,

"open wide this won't hurt me a bit!" Of course, it won't hurt you doc, he would smile back with a twinkle in his eye.

I was saddened when I read in the TGI obituaries that Dr. William Seager had passed away at the age of 77 after only retiring in 2019.

He worked at the

sliding scale dental clinic in Kapaa which is part of Hoola Lahui Hawaii community health center after owning a successful private dental practice because he enjoyed helping the poor and disadvantaged.

His parting words according to his obituary were, "This may seem like the end, but it's not--It's just the beginning..."Profound and refreshing last words.

Dr. Seager will be sorely missed.
A Hui Hou and Rest in Love Doc!

Go Bills!
I have been a Bills fan for over 60 years. When  I was a lad I went to all the Bills games with my season ticket holder father at the Old War Memorial stadium. I left Buffalo for college in 1976 and have not been back except for a handful of times in over 45 years. I am currently retired and living

on the Hawaiian Island of Kauai. Although I have not lived in Buffalo for many years I have remained a hardcore Buffalo Bills fan!

We are known as the Mafia, not because we make offers you can’t refuse, but short for Bills Mafia. A moniker given to the  Buffalo Bills fan base worldwide.

I have been part of a Facebook group that streams every Buffalo Bills game every Sunday, Monday, or Thursday and comments with each other.

We have Mafia members from all over the world, Europe, Israel, the Bahamas, every state in the union, and even some guy named Kimo in Hawaii.  We are family or as we say in Hawaii, ohana.

When I wear my Bill's garb in public here in Hawaii I am many times greeted by other mafia members with a 'Go Bills,' which means, 'I love you man!'

It also means Hello, Goodbye, and God bless. It is only to be answered with another Go Bills! It's very similar to the word Aloha in the Hawaiian language.

The Mafia has endured much heartbreak over the years, more than just about any team in the  NFL.

There was the infamous 'wide right' along with 4  consecutive Super Bowl losses and

who can forget 'Homerun throwback' during the music city miracle. Believe it or not just last year with only 11 seconds left on the clock the Arizona Cardinals threw a Hail Mary also known as the 'Hail Murray pass' into the endzone to defeat the Bills in a game they were sure they had

The Mafia is used to heartbreak and if we were the real mafia we would do something about it. What do you think Tony Soprano would do? LOL.

Just last week the  Bills played the Chiefs in one of the most viewed playoff games in history.

To many, it has become known as the coin toss game only because the Bills never got equal time on offense to touch the ball in overtime. It was a heartbreak to see Josh Allen brave his heart and soul in what the media is calling the greatest football game of all time and lose it to a coin toss.

What is it with Buffalo Bills history and luck? I believe somebody once upon a time put a hex on the Buffalo Bills to never win the Big one and always leave its fans heartbroken?

The mafia is sick of hearing,

"there's always next year." This was our year. This will be hard to get over, even harder than wide right, because the wide right was not as hard of the fought battle of the coin toss.

There is a meme on the internet that says, "cancel the remaining playoff games and the Super Bowl and just have a best of seven series between the Bills and the Chiefs!"

We now have the best Quarterback

in the NFL. We now have Superman on our side and for now, it's just a matter of time! I believe the only thing holding us back is the Kryptonite at Arrowhead!
Go Bills!
