No more Big savings since 'Times supermarket' took over 'Big Save' on Kaua'i...
I am very disheartened over the corporate purchase. One of the employees told me anonymously that they can no longer mark down meats, cheeses and other perishables about to expire as was the common practice of 'Big Save.' Instead they are instructed by management to throw those items away instead of passing some savings onto the consumer. The sign on the building may still read ''Big Save,''don't be fooled.
Big Save in the past would always give huge discounts on just about anything close to expiration, from hot-dogs, packaged salads, cheeses, meats, cookie dough, you name it. Now most of it all goes to the dumpster. The only thing they still somewhat discount on a regular basis are yogurts. There will be an occasional item marked $1.00 or $2.00 off but nothing as radical as 5 lb bricks of cheese for 1.00 as was a common Big save practice
It was a fun outing just going to look for discounted items. The staff was always friendly and had more Aloha than most stores. Now when I go there the old Big Save employees seem to be wearing fake smiles while the 'Times' employees are getting them ready for the new sign of the times, and the new sign does not read Aloha, it reads cha ching, cha ching...
Below, click on Big Save cashier Roxy in this video during the times 'Big Save' was still in operation. Let me know if you can view this? These were da good ole days...
