It's Aloha Friday.
The Unasked Question.
Aloha folks.
Star Trek had "The Undiscovered Country". I present to you "The Unasked Question".

I live my life following my own set of rules. Ones like: "Don't eat anything bigger than your head"; "Always yield to any vehicle that could run over your car and not even feel the bump"; "If you hear fighting outside, lock the door and stay inside".

But the one rule that I only started to scrupulously follow after I retired is the Unasked Question Rule.
It's a simple rule. If you don't ask, you may never get. So always ask. "Is there room for one more?" "Can I substitute for the fries?" "Could I get upgraded on this?" "Can you take these charges off my bill?"

I wish I had learned to follow this rule when I was much younger. When I was in high school and college I was often afraid to ask questions that now I see I should have come right out with. Questions like: "Would you go to the dance with me?" "Can I have an increase in my allowance?" "Would you like to go to the movies with me?" "Can I skip practice today?" "Would you like to go for a drive with me?" "When Grandma comes to visit, do I have to kiss her?" "Could I kiss you?"

Do you see any pattern to my questions?
I think a lot of people are held back in life by their Unasked Questions. Like me, later on they wind up saying a litany of "If Only". "If only I had asked out that beautiful girl." "If only I had asked my boss for a promotion." "If only I had asked my doctor for another option."

By the way, I did ask that beautiful girl out and I did ask her for a kiss and then I asked her to marry me. So no regrets there. But I have cold shivers at times thinking how my life would have been so diminished if I had let those questions go unasked.

If you wonder if you should ask some question, stop wondering and ask it. Otherwise you may regret not getting the answer for the rest of your life.

Okay folks, see you next week.
