"American Idol may well turn into a Pandemic Virus..!

American Idol fans be careful. I tried voting by 'Googling' "American idol" and opening the fist listing that came up. It had a survey to pick your favorite performance from last night, I checked a box, a virus alert popped up all over, saying it affected my hard drive. I immediately did a computer scan with 'Avira' and no viruses were found, however if I had clicked on the URL to clean up my hard-drive that the website recommended  I am 99% positive my computer would had had major problems.

Has anyone else heard of this or encountered it themselves?

Imagine if  you were a cybercrook, to inflect the American Idol website with over 30 million visits a week would sure have it's numbers working for you.

If you vote, vote by phone, safer! Ironically I have only voted once in my life for an idol contestant, no more...

American Idol may well turn into a American pandemic Virus!

"How Green Are You...?"

A good friend of mine was bragging to me and few others about how green she is.

I chime in and said oh yeah, you think your so green? Well I bicycle and walk everywhere. I re-use multiple times plastic and paper bags, I rake leaves and never use a leaf blower, my residence is all solar plus I have a sustainable garden!

My friend interrupts and says, really I'm greener than anyone, she proceeded to shed her clothes and sure enough she just came from a body painting event at the free beach and she was totally painted green.

I apologized and said you definitely are more green than me. It's not how green you look, it's how green you live!    ;D)

"Solution for states economic tsunami..."

Governor Abercrombie Senate, congress , Mayors and county councils of the great cosmic state of Hawaii,

I think I have the solution for the state economic crisis.

When a company is hurting financially they can file for bankruptcy protection and can sometimes re-organize with court approved discounts by paying a lower amount for every dollar owed to a creditor. For instance sometimes the courts will order a business to pay 30 cents on the dollar with the concept that creditors get something in lieu of nothing if the company where to totally fold.

In the same essence, why doesn't the state of Hawaii just file for bankruptcy protection?

Here's the real million dollar idea. Just like there are fund raisers and people donate money for natural disasters like Katrina and the Japanese earthquake and Tsunami where millions can be collected.

Why not have a fundraiser for the states economic tsunami, it is a disaster too, just not a physical one but a disaster that effects every one's bank account. Let's do a state fundraiser for the economic Tsunami. Have musicians donate time and throw a concert , have bake sales, do what ever it takes to help the economic tsunami.

"How to live a long life..."

There are so many of my friends leaving earth at such young ages. Many passing away long before their time.

One friend was an avid vegetarian for over 30 years, exercised, never smoked, ran marathons and died of Leukemia at age 53.

Another friend whom I had no idea was gay died 20 years ago at age 35 before they had all the drugs to treat HIV as they have today.

I know someone who was just diagnosed with pancreatic cancer and is only 49 years old, the doctors told her she has 6 months to live. This person power walks, doesn't smoke, Lives off her garden and fruit trees and rarely eats out, always making home made meals for family and friends.

I am friendly with a few old-timers in their 70's that smoke, eat alot of red meat, drink diet soda and live off fast food, they are healthy as can be.

Remember the stress of denying yourself what you want can be enough to cause the stress that can trigger cancer cells to multiply. eventually destroying you.

Live life and enjoy! Life is short even if you live to be 100. 100 is nothing in the history of man and woman. Do anything you want in moderation and I believe you odds are far greater of living a long life. Time will tell, I'm off to get a whopper junior...

"Obama was actually hatched from an egg..."

Our president Barack Obama was not born in Hawaii, he was hatched by a mother Kenyan hen sitting on her eggs back during the crazy rock era of the early 1960's. Since Barack Obama was hatched from an egg according to Sara Palin and her friend Donald trump it's time to dissolve the rumors that he was born in a manger and know the truth that he was hatched and is the primary reason for so many GOP'ers claiming his birth certificate is  a forge.

Donald Trump actually has remains of the cracked eggshell that Obama commenced life from.

OK folks, no jokes aside, the above was actually fiction, however  there are many Americans that actually think Barack Obama was not born in the United states and is a closet Muslim.

Please click on the enclosed URL to see actual photos of Obama's birth certificate.
http://www.microsofttranslator.com/bv.aspx?mkt=en-us&Ref=WLButton&a=http://factcheck.org/elections-2008/born_in_the_usa.html
The URL enclosed is from Fact-check, a company that checks, re-checks and checks again many controversial topics.

I have always maintained that if Barack Obama was a white man that this controversy never would had taken hold.

President Obama was born in Honolulu Hawaii in 1961, Hawaii was part of the united states at that time.
It's time to move on to important topics, like 3 wars and solving the major recession and if Donald Trump is actually a martian.

The county watchmen..."

Have you ever been to a Kauai county council meeting, watched on on TV or live streamed on your computer?  If not link onto the enclosed URL every Wednesday at 9:00 A.M. HST.
http://www.kauai.gov/tabid/400/Default.aspx

Kaua'i county council has become one of my favorite reality shows, I usually watch via live-stream but sometimes on TV.

With the camera's focused on every council person and everyone who testifies you can gather quite a bit from body language.

Ken Taylor and Glenn Mickens are two members of the community that comment on almost every matter that comes up. When the camera's show council members during public testimony or right before their going to the podium you will see looks of rolling the eyes, arms crossed and stink eye.

More of us should attend meetings and ask questions of our elected officials, it's another way of checks and balances. Since I am not able to attend council meetings in person, I am thankful that we have a couple of die hard watchmen looking over what our elected officials do.

May I suggest no more rolling of the eyes and crossing of the arms when the watchmen go to testify. After-all the watchmen are our true public servants doing what they do for no pay, no car allowance or health insurance, just out of love and concern for Kauai, the aina' and it's people. '

Mahalos Ken Taylor and Léo Azambuja !

Editor's note, for those not living on Kauai please read the enclosed article if you wish to understand this blog.  Aloha
http://thegardenisland.com/news/local/article_27b20748-545a-11e0-9c2c-001cc4c03286.html

The Garden island news recent article, "County agrees to $250K settlement with shrimp farm" is another fine example on why government has gone broke. We need to start electing people to public office who are educated and have brains.

Mahalos and thank G-d for Ken Taylor one of our county watchmen, Ken questioned a $250,000 settlement that had never gone public and wanted answers concerning this matter in a recent council meeting after Garden island  assistant editor Léo Azambuja brought this situation to the table with his award winning reporting!

Our council needs to grow a set of golf balls, every-time a potential law-suit comes up, they settle and try to keep it quiet because they say, "it's cheaper than going to court." We have a full time county attorney with a staff that should be capable of "winning"without bringing outside help, that's why we hired a county attorney in the first place.

It seems there will soon be a waiting line of people and business's filing claims that may not even be true to be able to live happily every after with taxpayer monies if this behaviour is not eradicated

"Adult tattletalers..."

When your a child you call them tattletalers, on the streets and in prison they call them rats. They are the people who enjoy being busy-bee's, gossip and telling rumors.

In a small community gossip is similar to tattletaling, sometimes it's true and sometimes it's not, when it's not it can destroy the person being tattled on.

I was looking forward to becoming an adult when I was a child and not having to deal with tattletalers, and for most of my adult life tattletalers have been absent.

I didn't realize adult tatletailers can range from a bigmouth, blabberer, busybody, fink, informer,,scandalmonger, snitch, stool pigeon, tipster troublemaker and whistle-blower.

Please don't tell me to move, I like it on the Garden island but never in my life have I seen so many adults who get off tattletaling as I do on Kaua'i.

I guess with no night life, ferry boats or plastic bags, there's not much else to do on a tropical island. On a positive note, it sure beats drive-by shootings, or does it?

"a fowl situation...!"

The chicken situation on Kauai is starting to smell foul. Thousands of wild chickens not only crowing at the crack of Dawn but at the crack of everyone's behind.

The sound is annoying as is the sound of gas and electric powered lawn mowers, weed-whackers, and weed-blowers going off constantly.

Noise pollution is out there as much as air pollution, litter, and polluted ocean waters.

The chicken problem is the one that is most easily remedied. I would take a crowing rooster over my neighbor using a leaf-blower, weed-whacker or any power tool for that matter.

Time to make chicken soup with Matzo balls out of a fowl situation.

Here's a simple solution to the overpopulated loud roosting chickens;

Somebody needs to start a dog and cat food company with chicken as the main ingredient. The chickens are free to harvest island-wide and the company would be hailed a saviour for controlling a noisy tormenting fowl situation.

"Homeless a Hero..!"

Brian Ward the "homeless man who was hailed a hero for grabbing the steering wheel of a Honolulu city bus out of control with the  driver in a state of shock and steered the bus to safety.

My congratulations to Brian Ward for saving the possible injuries and even deaths that may had occurred if he hadn't took action.

Not all homeless people are drug or alcohol addicted dirty people. Many of our sages were homeless including Jesus. I pray the story of Brian Ward can help shed a brighter light on homeless people.
http://www.staradvertiser.com/news/20110317_Passenger_saves_careening_city_bus.html

I feel the city of Honolulu should award Mr. Ward with a bus pass for life, and if Mr. Ward is up to it, maybe a job driving the Bus!

Mahalo Nui Loa Mr. Ward, not only are you a hero but a pretty cool dude!

"Let me be honest..."

I would like to give some advise to my politician friends. Many council-members say,"let me honest" when speaking during meetings. By saying "let me honest" they are basically saying everything prior to that wasn't honest.

Used car salesman say, "Let me be honest." therefore you may want to eliminate that phrase from your vocabulary if you want the public to believe you.

After-all I am being totally honest with you!

Let be honest ran as an opinion article in the Kauai Garden Island news on 10-22-11
http://thegardenisland.com/news/opinion/mailbag/article_df47f7ba-fc83-11e0-aab8-001cc4c03286.html

"Kauai county council meetings being live-streamed..!"

Kaua'i county council meetings are now available via live-streaming on your computer every Wednesday morning commencing at 9:00 a.m. What a great asset being to observe council meetings live! This saves gas and time for anyone interested in local politics.

Watch county council meetings at;
http://www.kauai.gov/tabid/400/Default.aspx

The only thing missing is being able to testify from home, with the price of gas and most people do not have a 500.00 a month car allowance as do the council-members.

There is a simple solution, the county could download "Skype" so people from home could testify. It would be an added asset to the live streaming process. Skype is free computer to computer and would actually be more controlled than live testimony, since the chair could easily enforce the 3 minute limit by use of 'skype,' people would have to stay within the three minute limit or be cut off.

Please consider adding skype to council live-streams.

One more question for the county council, does public testimony really matter? Has any-ones public testimony ever changed the mind of any council member on anything? My guess is not.

"G-d Bless the Nihon-Jin (Japanese People).."

I have found myself with tears in my eyes many times  since seeing all the news and images of the recent Japanese earthquake and tsunami

The Japanese are very proper people, with this being said, It makes  me not believe what I see on the news.

The prime-minister is acting calm like it's a problem but not a huge catastrophe, the possibility of a nuclear meltdown.

I know the Japanese nationals better than most Japanese Americans born in this country, living and teaching there in  2002-2003 was one of the most enlightening experiences of my life.

I know when they say no it means yes and when they say yes it means no. They do not want to bother others.

When this first happened the prime-minister said 200-300 dead. I knew and every Japanese National knew this was false, it's just their way of communicating.

To understand the Japanese mind-set, I will quote you out of my 2004 book, "Planet Japan.

"Bowing not handshakes or hugs provided a more hygienic way to greet a person. People consumed raw fish and cooked their vegetables, answered yes when they meant no, no when they meant yes and maybe when they meant never. The emergency phone number is 119, not 911. Japan is opposite land, another planet."

G-d Bless the Nihon-Jin (Japanese People), please say prayers send positive energy and if you have time and money go volunteer and help our great neighbors in whatever capacity you can.

Arigato Gozaimashita!

Garbage-men making more than teachers!

The local Kaua'i Newspaper  reported that some solid waste employee's, also known as garbage-men, make close to $40,000 in overtime alone, not to mention their salary which is close to the same.
Garbage-men making more than teachers, where's the logic or justice?

You've got to love it, overpaid council-members looking into overpaid garbageman! This should get interesting as this battle continues we will get to see whose garbage smells worse, the garbage-mans, or the county-councils. Another case of the pot calling the kettle black.

I remember when I was a kid, the joke was that you could make $1.50 an hour and all you could eat, if you wanted to be a garbage man.

Now Garbage men make more than many PhD's.

There's something wrong with the system when garbage-men, bus drivers and part time county council members make more than teachers.

"One Tsunami, two Tsunami, tree Tsunami more..."

"editors note, tree is suppose to be tree, please do not correct to three, tree is Hawaiian Pidgin for three."

One Tsunami, two Tsunami, tree Tsunami more, within the last two years.

This past dress rehearsal was less dramatic than the one in February 2010.

One of these times it will be the real thing and we will need to ask ourselves, "would we take supplies airdropped in plastic bags, or accept assistance from a ferry-boat?

One Tsunami, two Tsunami, tree Tsunami more....

This may sound silly, however now that I have your attention please remember to voice your opinion and testify to amend county bill #2400 that bans supermarket plastic bags. You can testify by email at; counciltestimony@kauai.gov  if you cannot make it to county chambers this coming Wednesday.

We may have weathered the Tsunami weather, however we still face the political Tsunamis on a daily basis.

Please do not continue to allow 7 overpaid public servants to make all our important choices, let your voice be heard now!

"Thankful to sleep through tsunami warning..."

Hawaii Public Housing authority(HPHA) worked tirelessly through the evening of the states most recent tsunami warning.

The expensive emergency generators and power tools were moved to higher ground from their Kapa'a office to their safe and high ground housing project "Hale' Nana Kei' O' Kea" locate behind 'Mahelona' hospital.

The public housing in Kapa'a had all the gas turned off for safety should the tsunami had moved him full force this would prevent fires.

The gas heaters at the higher ground housing did not need to be turned off.

I am thankful I was able to sleep through the tsunami warning this time, earplugs really work!

Pictured are Davis Shima and Norvin Manuel packing up generators and tools after a sleepless night in Kapa'a.

"Councilmembers hypocrites over plastic bag ban..."

The Garden Island newspaper recently published an article titled, “Residents torn over plastic bag ban.” This article tells it all, the story of a dysfunctional county council. This whole plastic bag ban mess should had been decided by the people of our great cosmic island, not seven overpaid narcissists who won a popularity contest.

The County of Kaua‘i in association with the Kaua‘i Humane society supplies free plastic bags at approximately six dispensers along the beautiful pedestrian trail. It’s ironic our dogs are allowed plastic for their feces, but we can’t use plastic for groceries or food items.

Trees are used to make paper bags. I thought we originally switched to plastics because we didn’t want to destroy the rain-forests.

We went 100 giant steps backward, the grocery stores are now using paper bags, 1,000 paper bags piled high, or 1,000 plastic piled high, guess which is smaller and costs less to freight?

If council is so concerned about the environment quit being hypocrites and ride a bike, walk, or bus to the next county council meeting, and donate your $500 a month car allowance toward the state budget crisis

note this blog appeared an an opinion article on 03-09-11 in the Kaua'i garden island news!

"Duh, winning..!"

The recent media blitz showing Charlie Sheen In his numerous rants and meltdowns has created huge ratings for network and cable news shows, along with many parodies on comedy and talk shows.

Charlie Sheen was fired from his sit-com, "Two and a Half men" he was the highest paid actor in sit-com history at 2 million a show, most of us don't make that kind of money in a lifetime. I watched his show one time, and really did not see any reason to watch again.

Charlie is melting down before America's eyes, sure his rants are entertaining and actually think his real life drama is more funny than his award winning sit-com.

http://www.nbc.com/saturday-night-live/video/duh-winning-cold-open/1311305/
(recent SNL skit)

The fun is over, if we maintain putting all this attention on Charlie and keep being drawn into this para social phenomena, not only will Charley Sheen self destruct but we as American people are on our way to much of the same.

Call it an Obsession by the American people, call it a meltdown, call it what ever you wish, we are encouraging his rants and laugh. I am guitly myslef, but when Charlie is six feet under who will have the last laugh?

"Duh, winning...."

"There's a law for everything..."

It seems everyday there's a host of new laws being approved, locally and nationally.

There are laws against possessing toy guns in some states, laws against smoking even in ones home, laws to protect  seals whales, seabirds, fruit flies and many other animals, there's even laws against oral sex in some states.

What's next, a law to say  one  cannot fart in ones own home? ;D)

"The perfect diet food, or is it..?"

Why do people believe salads to be the ideal and perfect diet food?

Believe it or not Burger King offers a side salad for only $1.49, it's rated as having only 40 calories. The clincher is that the Caesar, Ranch, Honey mustard dressings that come with the salad have 270 calories per 2 ounce serving.

Looking further into the the menu I noticed the value french fries made in non trans-fat oils have only 220 calories.

There is a reason 'french fries' are referred to as 'freedom fires!' Freedom to eat what you want!

This brings to  mind one of my favorite geometric theories; reasoning based upon observation is not very sound!

All Together 1-2-3- FREEDOM FRIES!

"There has been talk of a soda pop tax which in reality already exists..."

Recycling centers in the state of Hawaii are poorly located and are open limited hours intentionally.

There has been talk of a soda pop tax which in reality already exists, because most cans and bottles are never returned, thus the state does not return the money but keeps it as revenue.

The Government is trying to fool us again, do you really think they care about recycling?  If the state cared, or even if our local county really cared there would be an user friendly way to return your bottles and cans.

The store you bought your bottles and cans needs to start accepoting returns. It then  becomes a win win for everyone, more bottles and cans out of the landfill and people vsiting their local stores more often. This is already done in many states.

The only problem is that the state would be retuning more deposits, which really isn't a problem unless your an overpaid politician with  a large monthly car allowance and health insurance most would sacrifice  their mother-in-law for.

"We will continue to slowly but surely self destruct..."‏

To become a doctor you must serve an internship followed by a residency.

To become a lawyer you must pass a very difficult exam called "The Bar."

To become a politician you must be a U.S citizen and reside in the city or county you wish to run in for political office.
The other requirements; you need to be at least 18 years of age and not have any felony convictions on record. Many politician have passed the bar exam but not the one that takes any intellect, just the one that makes one woozy.

Until we raise the standard for those pursuing a political career we will continue to slowly but surely self destruct.
