"Celebrating Independence Day..." 'Judith Whitehead' (Inspiration Monday)

"Guest-blogger Judith Whitehead lives in Amherst N.Y. and has worked in the ophthalmology field of medicine for over 30 years..." She talks about Independence day and how the clock changes the way one celebrates. ;D) Enjoy...

Celebrating the Fourth of July

Over the many years we have celebrated the 4th in several ways; most of the time our evening culminated with the watching of fireworks that never started much before 9:30-10pm. When our children were little we would plan the whole evening around them; made sure we packed some food, did a picnic in the park near where the festivities were about to happen, and wait for the big event. It was exciting to watch their expressions as the blasts of light flew over their heads.
As they grew older and went to their own parties, we also changed our paradigm and now that we are in our fifties we have morphed into going to a cookout with friends and enjoying their company until early evening. The weather is usually very muggy in Buffalo and by 8pm we have had it with the bugs and sweating and have brought our celebration inside…we watch the fireworks in an air conditioned home on TV. I guess this is a sign of age but at this point, we don’t care. We are comfortable and lets face it…once you have seen 57 fireworks displays….you have pretty much seen them all.
I think we will revert back to our original traditions when hopefully some day we have grandchildren, and then we will start the party all over again for there is nothing more enjoyable than watching fireworks through some ones eyes that have never seen them before.
