"Paranormal experience's..." 'Chester "Unc" Lau'' (Source)

Dakinetalks good friend and regular contributor is back blogging about  the paranormal, one of my favorite subjects, "Ghosts" ;D)
Unc is a reitred cinematographer living his twilight years on the island of Oahu. Chester served in the Korean war and enjoys the naturist lifestyle.

A professor at Wayne State University in Detroit was giving a lecture on Paranormal Studies

To get a feel for his audience, he asks, "How many people here believe in ghosts?"

About 90 students raise their hands.

"Well, that's a good start. Out of those who believe in ghosts, do any of you think you have seen a ghost?"

About 40 students raise their hands.

"That's really good. I'm really glad you take this seriously. Has anyone here ever talked to a ghost?"

About 15 students raise their hand.

"Has anyone here ever touched a ghost?"

Three students raise their hands.

"That's fantastic. Now let me ask you one question further...Have any of you ever made love to a ghost?"

Way in the back, Hammad raises his hand.

The professor takes off his glasses and says, "Son, all the years I've been giving this lecture, no one has ever claimed to have made love to a ghost. You've got to come up here and tell us about your experience."

The Middle Eastern student replied with a nod and a grin, and began to make his way up to the podium. When he reached the front of the room, the professor asks, "So, Hammad , tell us what it's like to have sex with a ghost?"

Hammad replied, "Dang, from way back there I thought you said Goats."

"The Blog must go on..." 'James "Kimo" Rosen (Aloha Friday)

"Time for a sabbatical, a rest from writing opinion articles for the local paper. Time to go on a fishing sojourn, for how long, nobody knows..?"

I have taken a sabbatical from submitting letters to the editor for my local newspaper, "The Kaua'i Garden Island News."


It seems many people no matter what I say in an opinion article (LTE) will take it out of context and  go on and on and on in the comments section spewing non-truths.  I know how President Obama must feel with so many nut cases accusing him of being a closet Muslim and not being a US citizen. Although I am not a politician, I am criticized as one since I have had over 300 opinion articles published in the last five years alone. I guess I get the benefit of being a politician without being elected. I really don't enjoy it, although many have told me  I bring it on myself by submitting so many opinion articles, which in reality is the truth.


I wrote an opinion article last March about food trucks and the prices being high and portions small. I went on to say, I believe the trucks could improve their business by lowering their prices and relying on volume sales. Many interpreted my article as I was saying  do not support food trucks, when in essence I was trying to coach the food trucks into doing more business.


Another example, I said Obama  made a mistake in support of gay marriage, I went on to say I still support Obama but don't believe the majority of voters will. This had a rash of commenter's believing I was homophobic and against anything gay.

They say familiarity breeds contempt. Therefore for the time being, I have decided to take a much needed rest from my prolific letter writing.
Remember, rain, sleet, vog and fog, the blog must go on!  ;D)

"Religion sucks, G-d is great..!" 'James "Kimo" Rosen'

This is my most controversial heavy duty subject I have commented on. I have been sitting  on a rough draft of this blog  for two years. I finally decided to publish this, some will love it, others won't.  Please note I love G-d, and do not intend to offend anyone. I believe that all religions work if you believe in them...  G-d is everywhere and an understanding and forgiving G-d, I Love the L-rd! This is just how I feel... Read more... 

 It's funny, I used to look forward to the sabbath, now that I am retired everyday is like the sabbath, in fact on sabbath I usually work more than I do during the week. Sabbath is good for people working and having the stresses that life throws their way. During the week I bicycle and walk as my primary means of transportation, however on the sabbath I drive my car so I can visit and relax with good friends who live further than a relaxing walk or bike ride.

They say you should be in a different consciousness on the sabbath and since during the week I walk and bike, sabbath is the day I drive.


I love my orthodox Rabbi friend's but find some of their customs to be unhealthy and just plain not Jewish.


1- They (Chabad) worship the former  Rebbe as a 'messiah,' they write letters of prayer to him and throw them on his grave.(ohel) Not that there is anything wrong with this since I believe there are many ways to get to your spiritual destination. (More than one road to Rome...)

This is ironic since the 'Shema' the signature prayer of Judaism, states one G-d and only one G-d) that's one of the reasons the Jew's don't believe in Jesus, they believe in going to the source, no intermediary. Yet they write letters of prayer to a dead person they worship as the messiah and display wall photos of him similar to many Christians displaying photos of Yeshua. ( The Hebrew name for Jesus)


2- During circumcision the orthodox Rabbi will suck the infants penis to clean off the blood. There is an incident where an infant boy contacted the herpes virus from this procedure.The practice is known as oral suction, or in Hebrew, 'metzitzah b'peh.' After removing the foreskin of the penis, the practitioner, or mohel, sucks the blood from the wound to clean it. It became a health issue after a boy in Staten Island and twins in Brooklyn, circumcised by the same mohel in 2003 and 2004, contracted Type-1 herpes. Most adults carry the disease, which causes the common cold sore, but it can be life-threatening for infants. One of the twins died

3- During all simcah's (celebrations) men dance with men and women dance with women, I would like to know the rate of closet homosexuality in the orthodox sect?


4- Some things are translated literally and some things symbolically? Not driving, not cooking, not talking on the phone on the sabbath all stem from a biblical passage that states, "no kindling of a fire." Ex(35:3) Therefore driving one's car ignites a spark plug and in modern day went on to include no driving. Symbolically I would interpret this to mean no fighting with family or friends.

5- Not carrying on the sabbath is another rule the orthodox follow on the sabbath, yet someone figured it was OK to wear your keys around your neck on a string since your not allowed to carry them in your pocket, playing attorney with G-d is stooping pretty pretty low...


6- Kosher laws are so crazy that one orthodox Rabbi will not eat at another orthodox Rabbi's since he may use products displaying a hechsher that he does not recognize, or might think that the oven used in baking or the ways of the food preparations was not properly administered. Another law hard to swallow is that if a non Jew turns on the oven and kosher food is to be cooked it makes the food non-kosher. Only a Jew can turn on the oven in an orthodox kitchen.

7- The old ritual that says you shouldn't work on the sabbath? Well sabbath is the day the Rabbi is on stage, he needs an audience a congregation, so of course he will say to not work, but ironically he is working, and usually the wife is dishing out food and moving chairs to accommodate guests.I think G-d would be happier if you took a homeless person to dinner than worried whether or not the potato chip had the proper hecksher marking on the package... My conclusion is 'religion sucks and G-d is great,'(not a bad idea for a bumper sticker) and come judgment day, all of us will be in for a rude awaking when we say, oh, that's what you meant Lord.


Although all these laws seem crazy, even the practitioners who are usually of a high intellect will tell you they make no sense, but practitioner's continue on with the practice as a way to be obedient to their G-d.

They say you shouldn't question G-d, I agree you shouldn't question G-d, but you can question the people who interpret what they think G-d said.

I've seen Kauai through my own eyes for over forty years but my humorous novel, The SCAM, will be seen through the eyes of a character I love and created, Karen Holt, she and her whole clan, in the hip 60's. This column-you call it a blog-will take us back and bring us forward to today.

Today, driving to metropolitan Lihue, I see more cars than there were on the island when I arrived.
My husband, Bill,  was the Engineering Department Head for McBryde Sugar, a wholly owned subsidiary of Alexander and Baldwin, Big Five, lots of land and MATSON navigation; sugar was King then, actually the managers were Kings and department heads and their wives Lords and Ladies of the land. It was a wonderful life. We lived in some beautiful homes, one on the Spouting Horn Road-millionaire’s row-overlooking Kukuiula Harbor, where we kept our boat, and across the street from land we leased where we kept our horses. Our last abode, a lava rock  mansion up the Alexander Dam Road where, behind us all the way to Hanalei, there was no other habitation, was delightfully secluded.  Up there I rode my leopard appaloosa, Beauregard, followed by the dogs and my  black American Show Shetland stallion Flash’s Fanfare Sensation. Flashy darted along, no halter, no line, a free soul who, at the ripe old age of 40, sometimes led the way.

Our canine companions were two  Great Pyrenees and an odd assortment -sometimes two , sometimes three- of mixed bred size and shape. They fit in.

I did not. I was, and still am, sometimes, the one everybody loves to hate. In my lifetime of travels I've been the one everybody loved to love and the one everybody loved to hate and, truthfully, I  can’t tell you what role I liked the best.

Remember, I’d blown into Kauai from  big city Honolulu where I wrote a column for the Honolulu Star Bulletin/Advertiser,  some small local magazines, and acted with the only professional theater group in Hawaii, the Magic Ring Theater at the Hilton Hawaiian Village. I was also a noisy Peacenik, an early environmentalist, and a rabid Letter to the Editor writer. I've kept what I call the Bettejo Page, an entire Letter to the Editor section of the Honolulu Advertiser with a guest commentary about over-development signed by Mrs. William Dux. A picture of me-2X6- with a blurb about my column and a cartoon showing a lady  holding back a million junked cars has a caption that still reads “Beauty and the Beast”. The head of my long diatribe reads “Where To Go When All’s  Gone?”

My writing and outspoken personality went over on Kauai like a tsunami at a beach party.
Poor Bill, he was constantly bombarded at work with, “Do you know what she did?” Which, by the way, most of the time I didn't.

I once had a neighbor drop in for coffee and regale me with his hour-long diatribe of what people were saying about me. My response, as I spilled hot coffee in his lap, “…and I hope they believe every word of it. Then they’ll stay away which is exactly what I want them to do.”
They did.
