 without fact checking.

I enjoy social media, especially Facebook.

Lately, I have found so many false statements usually written up in meme form, those are those photos with words attached within the photo.

Many friends I consider intelligent, just post without fact checking. At times I will tell them it's not true and they should fact check before posting? Some say they aren't journalists,  so it doesn't matter. I say it matters since many times the post will lead to a website that has computer malware infections.

Here are a few most recent memes I fact checked and found to not be true."

"Consider a group of baboons. They are the loudest, most dangerous, most obnoxious, most viciously aggressive and least intelligent of all primates. And what is the proper collective noun for a group of baboons? Believe it or not ... a Congress! I guess that pretty much explains the things that come out of Washington!"

Snopes declared false along with many other fact checking groups such as Politifact, a group that  makes a living at fact checking political propaganda.

Merriam-Webster.com also produced negative results. So did the online version of the Oxford Dictionary.

It's easy to fact check, check go to Google and type,"fact check," whatever  your question is?

There was a meme stating Barach and Michelle Obama surrendered their law licenses to avoid ethics charges.

A court official confirms that no public disciplinary proceeding has ever been brought against either of them, contrary to a false Internet rumor.

It was also rumored a few months back that Costco would start selling recreation Marijuana in Washington and Colorado, there were hundreds of memes floating around social media, this too was false, but people still like to hit the share button before fact checking.

Many times there are offers of  extremely cheap airfares if you share a meme, offers of free cars to share a meme. If it sounds to good to be true, fact check before sharing or clicking onto a website that may infect your computer.

The worst memes are the political memes, the Democrats, make up lies about Republicans and the Republicans make up lies about the Democrats.

Be careful what you share, spreading false information  on Facebook is a federal crime and can get you up to 10 years in jail! Not really, just showing how easy it is to spread false info.

Watch what you share on social media, and please remember to fact check before spreading  falsehoods that may ruin your  reputation as a social media junkie.

Should you decide to share before fact checking  that's OK too!

"Germaphobia" 'Judith Whitehead' (Inspiration Sunday)

I'm always trying to take precautions when it comes to my health.
 I get flu shots every year and also got the pneumonia shot, however this year is a brutal one in Buffalo New York. 

 I work in the health field and am certain I have built up a certain immunity against these bugs, but they really got me this year.  I came down with the worst cold I have had in years; at times I have even skipped a year when I have not been sick but the beast attacked me early in the month.  Of course I had to share 
with the hubby.

  This seems to be a bad year for sickness, a lot of patients coming in sick.  My advice is to de- germ as much as possible, frequent sanitizing of hands, turn away from people spreading germs with sneezing and coughing and if flying, as I always do, get some anti bacterial wipes and wipe down those seats, tray tables and arm rests.

 It does make a difference.
Stay well everyone and be careful.

If your immunity is compromised you will be in trouble,  I even go so far as to carry a mask if needed when traveling.  STAY WELL

      "Unc" is really passionate about creating a national Caregivers day. Unc resides on the island of Oahu and loves giving politicians a hard time!

The Stray Ball

Two women were playing golf. One teed off and watched with horror as her ball headed directly towards a foursome of men playing the next hole. The ball hit one of them and he immediately fell to the ground clutching his hands together in his groin, rolling around in obvious agony.

The woman rushed over and immediately began to apologize "Please allow me to help, I'm a physiotherapist and I know I could relieve your pain if you'll allow me" she told him.

"Oh no I'll be all right, I'll be fine in a few minutes" the man grunted, still lying in a fetal position, still clasping his hands at his groin.

"Don't be silly, Let me help!" she told him and, following her persistence,  he finally allowed her to help. She gently took his hands away and laid them at his sides, she loosened his trousers and put her hand inside.  She administered tender and skillful massage for several long moments and then asked "How does that feel?"
He replied, "It feels terrific, but my thumb still hurts like hell."

"Americans of Japanese Ancestry Baseball League should be open to all Ethnicities..." 'Glenn Mickens' (Special to dakinetalk blog)

Glenn Mickens has lived on Kauai  with his wife Ruth for the last 26 years. Born July 26, 1930 in Wilmar, California, USA) was a pitcher in Major League Baseball. He pitched in four games (two of which were starts) for the 1953 Brooklyn Dodgers. He also played for five years in Japan, from 1959 until 1963 for the Kintetsu Buffaloes. There, he compiled a record of 45–53 with a 2.54 ERA.  Glenn also  served in the Army for 2 years and coached baseball at UCLA for 25 years. 
Last but not least Glenn would really like to see Kauai give the county manager style of Government a chance.

I am not sure if you have been following my crusade to get AJA baseball to stop their discriminatory practice of not allowing anyone who has the athletic ability to play in their league if they do not have Japanese blood in them. I have been at this for 20 years with no success.

Lately I was critical of the Mayor for endorsing this practice as being "traditional" (for me just another word for discrimination) and wrote the following letter to the paper. The Garden Island News may or may not print it.

 Can you imagine two of the greatest Jewish players in the history of baseball being prohibited from playing because they were Jewish---Hank Greenberg and Sandy Koufax?

Americans of Japanese Ancestry Baseball League should be open to all Ethnicities...

Kauai Mayor Bernard Carvalho Jr. was a jock just as I have been a jock most of my life. If Bernard had a son who had some skills in football and just needed added experience at the high school level by playing in an off season league to possibly get a scholarship to U of H but could not participate in that league due to a racial problem, wouldn't he be outraged?

His analogy that " some leagues require that members be part of a specific labor union, work in a particular geographic location or have attained a certain age" is comparing apples to oranges. 

Being in a labor union or living in a certain geographic location or age restriction has absolutely nothing to do with their race or ethnic background as AJA baseball does. If there are such leagues then their members are not restricted to play because they are black, yellow or brown only that they have the skill to participate. 

I said it before and I will say it again that I applaud the organizers of AJA baseball for keeping it going in the Hawaiian Islands for 86 years. But no matter what term you want to use for prohibiting any person from playing baseball because of their race, ethnic background, sexual orientation, or color IT IS DISCRIMINATORY!

The Mayor says, "I don't view the AJA as being racially discriminatory but rather one that pays tribute to a long standing tradition set by their fathers, grandfathers and great grandfathers."

Once because of "tradition" women could not vote, African Americans were slaves and until Jackie Robinson came along "tradition" or "culture" kept this fine race of people out of organized baseball. See the movie "42" about the hardships that Jackie had to go through to crack the color barrier in pro baseball--truly amazing. Or that mixed marriages were looked down upon or prohibited; that homosexuals were barred from military duty or kicked out if discovered---at a time when some were our best combat pilots and interpreters we badly needed; or same sex marriage that gives equal rights to everyone. 

In one of its saddest hours our country "discriminated " against  the total Japanese race by putting these American citizens into camps (a recent fine story in TGI) after Pearl Harbor was bombed. 

The Mayor goes on to say what a fine outstanding citizen Tom Shigemoto is and I certainly take no exception with that. He had some fine sons that excelled in baseball at Kauai High School and as the official arbitrator and scorer for the KIF I told him so. 

My only question to Tom, our Mayor or anyone else who wants to keep AJA baseball segregated is WHY NOT open this league to anyone who can compete?
Professional baseball and particularly the major leagues are better, stronger and more competitive (attendance and salaries are off the map!) due to the influx of worldly players being signed.

Even if AJA baseball is legally correct in their operations, they certainly have a moral and ethical right to operate their league so that no male or female is ever left out.

Happy birthday to me, Skydiving and Pizza on my 60th...

This week I will turn the big  6-0h on January 23rd, wow!

I started out wanting to host a surprise  Costco pizza party for all my friends, both real ones and local kine Facebook friends.  I even reserved the community center where I live for the big day. I later decided I didn't want the stress of hosting a party for myself on my Big six-oh birthday.  I also realized, it wouldn't be a surprise if I hosted it?

The idea of skydiving came up after a friend from Alaska recently made a trip to the Garden island and couldn't stop raving about the adrenaline rush and the fun of being a kid again. I thought OK , 
even though I hate flying I would skydive
 for my big 6-0. After-all it's events like this are suppose to be on one's bucket list.

I realized it would  dry up my pocketbook , unless of course somebody gifted it to me  for my birthday-- no such luck.  The Kimo in me said yes, but the Rosen in me kept saying no,
 if you know what I mean.

 Mom and dad.

Then it dawned on me that people are now  saying,  "60  is the new 40?" The people saying that are the same people like myself, that have a hard time realizing they are now into their golden years and the winter of their lives.  Although it is politically correct to insist 60 is the new 40, I have come to realize at least for me that 60 is the new 70.

I remember my father was 70 years old when  he passed away. He said in his mid and late 60's  that he had martial relations almost every night with his new wife. "Almost on Monday, almost on Tuesday, almost on Wednesday." I  now understand Dad!

My father also said when asked when how he was doing, "Doing great, nothing that 6 pallbearers couldn't take care of!"

For my Golden years I am hoping I can still blog. It's getting  harder and harder coming up with  material as you can obviously see from this blog.

My bucket list now consists of of reading the obituaries and hoping to not see my name.

Well, the excitement of imagining what we would do with the lottery winnings came to an end last night.

I must say I did buy one as well.  All the hype got me excited that I began day dreaming as to what I would do with the money.  It can become a mixed blessing winning all that money. If you ever watched the show "Lottery" you will witness those that actually can loose a vast amount of money  giving it to leeching new friends etc.
