 The staff is kind,  smiles and give friendly head nods whether you order or just wish to use the restroom.

"Be Kind," should be the new signature motto   for Burger King, Kapa'a. "BK," now stands for Burger King and "Be Kind!"

Next time your on the road and have the need to eat, or even another need, remember (BK) "Be kind," that's exactly what my friends at Kapa'a Burger King are, kind!  Did you know they use local home grown tomatoes on their sandwiches, and that the french fries have zero trans-fats. They also have a variety of Garden salads.

For all you exotic  food lovers they now offer a complete line of ice cream sundaes, including a bacon, fudge and caramel sundae, now if only they would make a whopper milk shake we'd have it all.

Afterthought does anyone besides me think that Burger is doing this for all the free PR they are receiving from blogs like this all over the world, after all a bacon sundae is not really a delight to the pallet or is it?

THE CLEANING FRENZY

So where have I been for the past two weeks? On a cleaning frenzy.
I will admit that I am not a clean freak. I am not even a good housekeeper. And it shows. I’d rather be out in the barn with a pitchfork or out in the lush green jungle with all the living things. Nevertheless, one has to clean a house sometime or else one has to burn it down. This year I came very close to striking the match.
This goes along with my theory that we are nothing more than a product of our past. My mother wasn't a good housekeeper and she never taught me any of the homely arts. That’s what I thought of then, anyway. Homely. Once as a little girl I tried to bake some peanut butter cookies but they turned green. Not a healthy green, either, I don’t  know why, and it put me off. For the rest of my life. I don’t like to cook,  but I’m working on that one. I mean I can’t learn to cook any younger now can I?

When I married for the first time, as a new bride I moved to Quito, Ecuador. My groom and I dwelt with grand aristocracy  in a great white mansion on Los Compos Eliseos. It had a very large three-story foyer with a circular staircase and a glass ceiling which leaked when the fabulous storms in the Andes roared and ranted. There were two major bedroom suites with glass panels that leaked, big time, in the bathroom ceiling. I don’t think it had a skylight in the kitchen, I was only in it once, in the middle of the night when I felt a snack coming on, but I couldn't find the light switch so that temptation did not get delivered. I had to wait for the cook to get up the next morning so the upstairs maid could deliver me a heavenly scented brew in the Italian marble tub.

Life today, in the USA, is very different. I've never worked as hard, physically, as I do now and a cleaning frenzy around here is a major gymnastic feat. I’m up in the rafters. I’m under the sinks and counters. I’m in hidden hidey holes I forget even existed. I've already worn out three brooms. I dislike vacuum cleaners, I aways get tangled in the cords. Once I fell off a ladder clambering clumsy footed  down after scrubbing the skylight in the living room. It now looks its age but it doesn't leak and an artist friend thought it a beautiful piece of green flecked marble.

I must also tell you this about my house, it was never finished, probably never will be, and it’s wide open to the elements and the animals and the greenery that slithers in on silent stalks and leaves that whisper nothings in my ear. Birds also flutter  in and out. Not always welcome, but the red cardinals flash gorgeous and the thrush tweet and twitter sweet.

Why the furor of the frenzy? Because I’m hosting a happy 82 in August. If I survive.

One of my favorite TV shows is  ABC's Shark Tank, where entrepreneurs plead their case for business investors to a panel of five multi-millionaires.

Last year I was watching the show and saw Jonathan  Miller the owner of Element bars ask the "Sharks" for A  $150,000 investment for his new company that makes custom organic energy bars.

Don't mistake Jonathan for Dr. Oz, Jonathan looks like a young Dr. Oz!

 I  made my own  Element bar called "Kimo's Delight"  the recipe consists of  of cashews, cherries, apricots, pumpkin seed, sunflowers seeds, brown rice and apple juice, nothing artificial. I call it "Kimo's Delight!" (The Dakine Bar) Actually it was more like Kimo-Therapy. Since purchasing these energy bars, I have lost 7 lbs  and my blood glucose numbers have dropped. I do not crave food, they curve and satisfy my appetite. Which is great news since I am a type-2 diabetic.  The  custom bars may  seem expensive at $3.00 each, however you can't put a price on health.  I eat half in the morning and half in the afternoon which cuts your price in half.

Why do we think Fridays are so important?

When my children were in elementary school, the school put on an assembly about teaching your children not to always look forward to Fridays and the weekend. It has stuck in the back of my mind for all these years as my children are about 30 yrs old now.

The whole meaning behind not dwelling on Friday all week is that we spend too much time looking forward to the future and what’s going to be, instead of living in the present and enjoying each day as it comes. Each day has something to offer and enjoy and if we spend all week wishing it was Friday then we can’t enjoy our lives and appreciate each day. It’s not an easy concept to live by because those of us that work and go to school still cannot help but project during the week. I find myself doing the same thing but try and catch myself every time I think that and remember what that speaker told us with our children; live for the present and appreciate each gift, or life will just pass by as you keep wishing for another day to come.

WE all love to eat and for many Americans it's starting to show on their waist, hips and buttocks.

I have decided to start a recipe blog of healthy meals for less than $5.00 that are not only healthy and hearty, but affordable and inexpensive. And with no snacking after dinner you can eat like this and lose weight or maintain your current weight.

Fillet Mignon with bacon wrapped around the sides.  Six fillet Mignon cost 15.99 at Kauai Costco.
That's 2.66 per fillet. I do not eat the bacon , my dog gets that part since she deos not keep kosher.

Costco potato salad for a huge 3lb container costs only $3.49. A  six once serving cost's .35 cents

Costco sweet and spicy bean salad with corn cost $6.00 for 64 oz's. A 2 once serving cost .20 cents

The sunflower sprouts are free, since I trade spinach in my garden for them and the pepperoncinis cost pennies.

I fillet...........................2.66
2 oz bean salad...           .20 each
6 oz potato salad......... .35
2-pepperoncinis.............. .08
I ear corn....................... 40
 Total...........................3.69

with a few spice s and minimum butter on the corn along with an ice cold crystal lite lemonade this whole dinner costs under $4.00 and less than 15 minutes to prepare with minimum dishes.

This same dish in a restaurant would easily sell for 19.95 or more...
