"The new cool is to be gay..." 'Obama Da Dog'

Obama Da Dog is one Gay ( Happy and Giddy) creature, not
that there's anything wrong with that...

Everything seems centered around the gays. It has become highly accepted and the new cool is to be gay.

Every evening newscast usually has  something about gay marriage, civil unions or gay pride parades.

A recent cover of Sports Illustrated magazine featured Jason Collins a gay NBA basketball player. The story had nothing to do with any sports achievement but just the fact he was a gay and came out of the closet. Maybe the front cover of Cosmopolitan but Sports Illustrated?

My dictionary still defines gay as  light hearted,giddy and brightly coloured and when two men are having sexual relations it's anything but gay, but just a homosexual act.

I think most people agree with me, however it has become politically correct to accept gay anything and everything. People are afraid to speak their minds in fear of being labeled old fashioned, homophobic or even a bigot. 

I am opposed to gay marriage, however at the same time I do not believe in heterosexual marriage either.  Marriage is defined as  a union between a man and woman, therefore  marriage cannot be a homosexual thing.

Gay people need to  have their own platform with all the same rules of marriage and divorce.

If  homosexuals and lesbians want to marry they need to come up with a new word, I have suggested in the past, "Garriage," the 'G' is from Gay and when you combing the 'G' from Gay and take out the 'M' in Marriage it becomes "Garriage."  

It's gotten to be that one feels left out if your not  a homosexual or lesbian or should I say gay? Not  that there's anything wrong with it.

Eat Drink And Be Merry-All For Charity

The Taste of Hawai'i' is Kaua'i's annual signature event by which many visitors plan their trips around. This past year the Taste celebrated their 25th milestone silver anniversary.

'Taste' is  my favorite annual event on Kaua'i and is basically my Christmas-Chanukah in June. I decided to buy a new shirt for  the event. I tried the shirt on and it looked very nice, a medium tight fitting pullover  aloha shirt.  I decided right before leaving to change to my regular wardrobe, a loose fitting T-shirt and shorts with a draw string, I am so glad I did and here's why;

The brunch which features over 50 chefs strutting their signature dishes, 15 plus beer, wine and soft drink beverage vendors allows you to eat  and drink to your hearts content. The 10 plus musical bands from Rock' roll to Big band allow you to burn off a few calories and make room for even more delicious ono grinds, then take a breather over  at the silent auction to make room for the Lappert's ice cream station. Therefore remember to wear a loose fitting clothing to get in as much as possible.

The wood fired flat-bread brushed with olive oil and herbs presented by The Feral Pig restaurant along with their slow smoked  Porchetta, a savory boneless pork roast of Italian culinary tradition was one of many ono food exhibits at the 25th milestone silver anniversary at  the Taste of Hawai'i.  Everyone who tasted this culinary delight had two things to say, "Broke Da Mout and Wop Da Jaw" ( meaning delicious in Hawaiian pidgin) (photo bottom page)

Rumor has it for this special day that the  food  and drink have zero calories, so just pretend your in heaven and eat to your hearts content. I feel sorry for the people wanting to lose weight that have had  their stomachs stapled, unstable them for da Taste! 

Seriously,"Taste" is not only a taste of food but a taste of community, a taste of charity and a taste of fellowship."Taste" is a community event sponsored by the  Kapa'a Rotarian's. All profits go towards scholarships for our local youth and fund international projects such as providing safe drinking water and sanitation in schools for people in poverty stricken areas around.

To commemorate the 25th Taste each chef  was presented with a limited edition silver anniversary apron by the Rotary club of Kapa'a. (Rotary President Katerina Norman can be seen modeling one of the aprons in the above photo.)

Happy silver anniversary and  a huge  Mahalo Nui Loa to the Rotary club of Kapa'a, the chefs,vendors, musicians and the numerous volunteers making this all possible. Eat drink and be merry,  to another 25 years of da Taste!

JUNE IS CATARACT AWARENESS MONTH

THERE ARE MORE THAN 24 MILLION AMERICANS WHO ARE AGE 40 AND OVER WHO HAVE CATARACTS. 

It still remains the leading cause of blindness worldwide.

A cataract is the clouding of the eye’s natural lens which can block the passage of light into the eye. Vision loss from a cataract can be fully restored. Cataract surgery is done as an outpatient procedure under a local sedation and takes all of about 10 minutes to remove the cataract or lens of the eye and replace it with an implant lens to restore the vision. It has a 95% success rate.

 There is also a new study that has been done that having your cataracts removed can reduce the rate of falls that  happen  among our seniors today.  Cataracts do not cause pain; they simply change the ability to focus and can cause blurry, double or filmy vision. Changing the eye glass prescription can help somewhat to combat the changing of the human lens but can only improve the vision for so long. If the lens becomes too hard or sclerotic, it becomes harder for the surgeon to remove and the risk of surgery increases.

If you are experiencing any of these symptoms, have an eye evaluation by an Optometrist or ophthalmologist and open up your world of beauty once again.

Serendipitous Moment

 Memorial Day has special meaning for my family, as there are 3 generations of my family having served the US Armed Forces. My grandfather--speaking French as a first language, assisted Jews through a Paris underground, and during Nazi German occupation. The front? A butcher shop. My mother--a U.S. Naval nurse, and my father, Lieutenant Colonel with the US Marine Corps. On Veterans Memorial Day, my family would spend time at the National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific--honoring our service men and women; this is a tradition.

Last week, I was in a meeting  at Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam, and with a US Marine Corps, Staff Sergeant, who continued his military career upward with the USMC Military Police. There were conversations about work related matters, conversations about the USMC...and conversations about the hardship I found before me as I fought for justice related to our Kaua'i courts in which truth had become a casualty. It is in the company of such fine men and women that I find solace in my efforts--that every minute, of every day, of every year, spent in determination--is worth the sacrifices made.

I had taken the bus to this Joint Base. The Marine Officer provided a ride for me, back to the bus stop. Along the return to the bust stop, the Marine Officer asked questions such as, "When does the bus come by, again? How often does the bus run?" and finally, "How long of a wait will you have?"  This Marine did not want to leave me alone at the bus stop; this Marine did not want to "leave me behind." I reassured this Officer that I would be fine alone at the bus stop; I understood.

When I arrived home, I had opportunity to read Kimo's dakinetalk. I smiled to myself, and tears were brought to my eyes, as I read Richard Spacer's story titled, "A Divine memory on Memorial Day."  In this story, Richard writes to a long-time friend, Gordon, who is a U.S. Veteran--having served our Nation in the U.S. Marine Corps. Richard, also, writes that his father served with the US Marine Corps, as well.

The story continues as to how these two missed the last bus on Memorial Day, and, then, began to hitch a ride, and into some dark hours. Richard writes to the story's theme that a Marine is trained in "never leaving people behind the enemy lines, and apparently lots of other places, too." Marines are recognized for possessing exceptional character--an "elite group of men and women who live by a strict code of  integrity and ethics." Semper Fi is the signature of the USMC, and translates to "faithful."

This moment--in which one U.S. Marine Officer did not want to leave me behind at a bus stop--and Richard's appropriate story to USMC Veteran, Gordon--I believe, spoke in a serendipitous way exactly what a U.S. Marine is made of. God bless our soldiers.

A well-known speaker started off his seminar holding up a $20.00 bill. In the room of 200, he asked, "Who would like this $20 bill?" Hands started going up. He said, "I am going to give this $20 to one of you but first, let me do this." 

He proceeded to crumple up the $20 dollar bill. He then asked, "Who still wants it...?" Still the hands were up in the air. "Well," he replied, "What if I do this?" And he dropped it on the ground and started to grind it into the floor with his shoe. He picked it up, now crumpled and dirty. "Now, who still wants it?" Still the hands went into the air.

"My friends, we have all learned a very valuable lesson. No matter what I did to the money, you still wanted it because it did not decrease in value. It was still worth $20. Many times in our lives, we are dropped, crumpled, and ground into the dirt by the decisions we make and the circumstances that come our way. We may feel as though we are worthless. But no matter what has happened or what will happen, you will never lose your value. 

Dirty or clean, crumpled or finely creased, you are still priceless to those who DO LOVE you. The worth of our lives comes not in what we do or who we know, but by WHO WE ARE. 

You are special-Don't EVER forget it." If you do not pass this blog on you may never know the lives it touches, the hurting hearts it speaks to, or the hope that it may bring. Count your blessings, not your problems.

WHAT SIMPLE FOLKS DO ON KAUAI

I’ve never had a thing about money. As long as I could pay my bills, lead the life I chose, and stay healthy, I was happy. I had to work at it, it didn’t come free but that was a pleasure, too. Surrounded by books, animals, and a husband I adored, I set out upon life’s journey. I loved to act. So I acted. I loved to write. So I wrote. Money had nothing to with it. As far as a career in acting or writing, I was as close to Hollywood or New York as I ever wanted to be. Happy My novel, The Scam made it to New York, though.

My husband said I was perfectly well equipped to live in the 15th century, so I had to find out about that. Turns out it wouldn’t have been a healthy, happy time for me to land in at all. No, not at all. Witch hunts and burnings were the rage. Fun and games. And I discovered the book Malleus maleficarum- the Hammer of Witches- was one of the first books ever printed on the Gutenberg press 1485-86.

“All wickedness,” said the Catholic inquisition authorities, “is but little to the wickedness of women. What else is woman but a foe to friendship, an unescapable punishment, a necessary evil, a natural temptation, a desirable calamity, domestic danger, a delectable detriment, an evil nature, painted with colors…Women are by nature instruments of Satan…”

That certainly doesn’t sound very happy or healthy to me, so I think I’ll just skip it. Hard to do- though-if you’ had been following the Garden Island Forum discussion site.. So many posters-all of them of religious bent or right wing-play the gendercide game. it’s a game they’ve mastered.

In 1980, Ben-Yehuda, wrote about the Malleus, “It was to become the most influential and widely used handbook on witchcraft…its enormous influence was practically guaranteed, owing not only to its authoritative appearance but also to its extremely wide distribution…The moral backing had been provided for a horrible endless march of suffering, torture and human disgrace inflicted on thousands of women.” I think it resurfaced in 2008 when Palin had her exorcism. It’s quite the rage on the Forum discussion site. Toned down, maybe. Not exactly identified but alive and well and that’s not healthy.

Well, I don’t keep it on my shelves and as long as I remember that health and happiness are, quite often, an inner human expression, I can toss the madness out with the holy water.

Still, you must be physically and morally healthy and strong to confront this 21st century madness. Stand on your head. Worship the scented plumeria. Listen to da’birdys sing. Talk a walk on golden sand. Dip your tush in sparkling water. Bask your butt beneath a happy sun. Trust your feet on jungle paths and mountain trails. Screw the bucks and the witch hunts…

That’s what simple folks do. On Kauai.

This is tough to see. It just shows the dangers of attending these events. 

Amazing photo below shows great detail. 

The pilot, flying at low altitude, had no control over his aircraft. 

It narrowly misses a crowd gathered for the air show and slams into four buildings occupied by the GOP strategists,NRA honchos ,Taliban big wigs & TSA Gropers.

One can only imagine the horror of the occupants inside those buildings now doubling their output to power their political agendas .
