To vote or not to vote, that is the question

To vote or not to vote, that is the question.

Does it really matter who wins an election?

Will your life change or be any different depending whose in office?

I am betting most of our lives would not be any different with whom ever happens to win an election?

Incumbents preach experience and new comers preach change. Once in office the main objective is to be re-elected.

Politics is a nasty game, it takes a person with thick skin and a narcissistic personality to run for office. People that love seeing their name in print. People who think their poop doesn't stink and people who think they are GOD'S gift to the world.

Wow, maybe I need to be a politician!?

Does Kaua'i rock or what?
Mayor Bernard Carvalho in yellow polo shirt along with
State representative Derek Kawakami in the blue aloha shirt
dancing this past June at the 'Taste of Hawai'i...'
P.S.
Check out my YouTube video of Mayor Carvalho and state representative Derek Kawakami dancing! If you live on Kaua'i
please vote for both these men!

My people, the Jewish people would refer to both these men as mensch, which means "a person of integrity and honor." Very hard to find this type of person in politics...
Good luck and G-d bless my friends Bernard Carvalho and Derek Kawakami!

Personally, I can't wait til election season is over. It has gotten too ugly and I'm sick of it. However, I am sure the GMO issue will continue to drag on for a long time to come.

As for stinky poopies: Hmm... Now that is an important topic for discussion. Teehee!

Candidates usually win by name recognition, especially in local elections where everybody knows everybody, at least we think we know everybody... You know what they say about Kauai? People know things about you, before you know things about yourself... ;-)\

I'm often surprised by how many people know so much about me when I can't even remember most people's names (or how I even know them). I've never had the greatest name/face recall skills, and I'm sure it'll only get worse as I age...
It would be great if everyone wore name tags! (Just for my benefit, of course. LOL!)

no need for name tags, that's why we address everyone as Bruddah, Sista, Auntie and Uncle...

Pete, the dance factor is huge! ;-)

nce in real people’s lives who gets elected — what tax rates you pay, whether you are safe from gun violence or not, what kind of consumer protection you have, what kind of medical choices you have access to, the degree of personal privacy rights you are allowed, whether you (or your kids) will be shipped off to wars, how workers are treated, what kind of environment and climate we will live in....

And the list goes on and on and on.
The world in 2014 is very, very different because George Bush stole the election in Florida in 2000 and took office than if Al Gore had been president and, yes, it makes a difference that Tea Party extremists shut down governments, obstruct legislation and block appointments to the Supreme Court or even something as simple as preventing a surgeon general nominee from getting confirmed while, at the same time, they whine that our response to epidemics such as Ebola are inadequate.

Doug, I hear you. I guess on a national level you are right. On a local level not as much..?

Doug, I was being somewhat toingue-n-cheek, did you read my last lines? Politics is a nasty game, it takes a person with thick skin and a narcissistic personality to run for office. People that love seeing their name in print. People who think their poop doesn't stink and people who think they are GOD'S gift to the world.

On the local level it's mainly about GMOs right now. It doesn't seem they're running their campaigns on much more than that. Well, the whole new property tax issue as well, I guess, but I don't hear much about that.

Jaana, for us hermits does it really matter who sits in county council? Will your life change any whether or not any of the 7 council incumbents do not get their seat back? Probably not!?

Well, if the Moratorium gets passed, it might drive our food prices even higher, so I may starve to death. Unless you come feed me Huli Huli every week.

Huli Huli, it is!
