Editors note;
Kauai County has approved building permits for a proposed dairy farm in Mahaulepu funded by Pierre Omidyar, eBay founder and Hawaii’s wealthiest resident.

Why so many of us object to
a milk factory in Poipu, Kaua'i?

...“Factory farm pollution turns drinking water – a basic substance we need to survive – into a silent killer,” said Elisabeth Holmes, staff attorney at the Center for Food Safety. “These industrial operations pollute our air and water under the guise of agriculture....  lawsuits will help  safeguard public health and the environment.”

“Congress gave citizens the right to act to protect themselves when  regulatory agencies fail to do so,” said an  attorney in court on the mainland. “Citizens have no option but to act when their families’ health is at stake.”

“Unlawful dumping of manure at industrial dairies hurts the environment, the community, and our food supply,” said Jessica Culpepper, staff attorney at Public Justice. “When these same factories do not report their toxic air emissions, the public is endangered and left in the dark and we are standing up on behalf of those harmed to change that.”

"Fast Food, Fat Profits highlights what is arguably one of the most disturbing health trends of the 21st century – the fact that today’s generation may be the first to live a shorter lifespan than their parents, and this is a direct result of too much cheap (nutrient-deficient and toxin-laden) food. Avoiding processed food requires a change in mindset, which is not always an easy task. It CAN be done, however. Rather than looking at processed foods as a convenience that tastes good or saves money, try thinking of it as:

Extra calories that harm your body
A toxic concoction of foreign chemicals and artificial flavors that will lead to disease
A waste of money
Likely to lead to increased health care bills for you and your family."

Do you eat to fill your belly? Or do you eat to nourish your body?

Do you understand the relationship between ingesting nourishing food and good health?

How much green pasture  does a  healthy grazing milk cow need?  A general rule of thumb for grown cows is about 2 animals per five acres."

Factor in the stench--cow poo is not perfume--which is  wafted in the wind. So, if you live close to this  ill-conceived and badly maintained and managed milk factory--2ooo cows on five hundred acres which produces a nasty liquid for profit not for nourishment-- a  gas mask when the wind blows wrong might come in handy.

Now factor in flies. Flies are unpleasant. Under the best of circumstances. They are not the healthiest of neighbors and they, too, are wind-borne. Think of them as tiny living drones that carry disease and discomfort.  You'd complain if a neighbor's yard was so filthy it grew flies on an open garbage dump. In this instance a caring  Health Department would involve itself. Sadly, however, we cannot know what it'd do for milk factory  flies on Kauai.

Most likely it'd decide they were good flies...

...which, unlike feral cats,  crowing roosters, and barking dogs, should not be diminished, destroyed, or defamed.

Fast profits? Just say 'no'.

dairy destroys the teeth
leeches calcium from our bones

But many scientific studies have shown an assortment of detrimental health effects directly linked to milk consumption. And the most surprising link is that not only do we barely absorb the calcium in cow’s milk (especially if pasteurized), but to make matters worse, it actually increases calcium loss from the bones.

Wasn’t this the person who wanted to built a resort or hotel on this property?
When he didn’t get.approval he made good on his threat to put cows on his property to sink the place up? Bobby
Answer to guy who says milk barns are filthy and smelly. Nonsense. There are show barns all over the country. Excellent nourishing milk produced. We have the land. Too many people---especially in Hawaii-- see dollar signs when they see land.

A show place diary could be a tourist attraction. Pasteurize and bottle milk here. Put people to work. Make ice cream. Butter. Cheese.

it actually cost less to properly pasture and feed a dairy cow and produce good milk, than it does to create this horror of a milk factory.

They graze. Little additional expense for food. Clean up easier and the waste produced enriches the land. Can be sold for fertilizer.

Milk cows can be sold. Bull calves, also. Organic calf liver is worth a fortune.

Milk delivery.
I know this. I've lived through it. I've been there.
More suburban sprawl.More hotels. More cars.More exhaust. More traffic jams.

You know the one thing I'm intolerant of? Stupidity.
Too may brains have stopped functioning. Maybe it's the food you eat? The air you breathe? The water you drink? THINK

If these people told me the sun was coming up tomorrow, I'd make sure my electric bill was paid. 699 milk cows need 1950 acres of pasture. the picture these liars show is a flaming lie. Further, remember a cow must be pregnant to to produce milk. That means 699 calves every year. The milk produced in this environment is NOT edible. It's disgusting. Milk(?) on Kauai must be sent to Oahu to be pastuerized and bottled. A wagher I cannot lose: Prince George and Princess Cayherine do not drink milk from a milk factory. I wouldn't feed it to my cat.
Reference to lies these hoodlums wrote about. It disgusts me.

HOW MANY DAYS DOES IT RAIN ON KAUAI
The manure splashes onto cows’ udders moments before they are milked. It is caked on their limbs, and it is virtually impossible to clean it off cows’ flanks and udders before milking, a serious food-safety threat.

This is what a milk farm looks like. Look for a healthy barn. I'll find you one. They exist. Very very different. Trust me, I've been there, seen one. Horse barns are the same. Clean flows are healthy cows.

That dairy farm in Mahaulapu should never happen. We had one for many years in Molowa and that went to Oahu so why try and bring one back here in an area that it shouldn't be in.
As someone said, I think that the billionaire who wants it knows that it will fail and then has the land to build whatever he wants on it.
I have not heard or read of one rational reason to put it there but have heard many very good reasons to leave that area along.
We can agree on some things, Bettejo, right?

Glenn
