Why change name of airport, if it ain't broke, why fix it?

I am still scratching my head at the name change for the Honolulu international airport to Daniel K. Inouye International Airport.

If it ain't broke, why fix it? Mainlanders and foreigners will never be able to pronounce Inouye, plus it  will constantly be misspelled. It makes more sense to say I'm going to Honolulu international, than Daniel K. Inouye airport. Will luggage tags say Inouye or Honolulu?

How did this happen without a public ballot? At what cost is a name change,I am sure it is in the millions?

I have the perfect compromise, name the rail after him. Inouye was a staunch supporter and one of  the main reasons Honolulu rail was born. Rail was his baby, he worked his okole off to make it happen. It just makes more sense to name rail after the late great legend, Daniel K. Inouye.

Spot on. Even Daniel K. Inueyo would agree. ;-)

The airport "code" doesn't change. For example, Washington National became Regan National, but the code stayed at DCA. Baltimore-Washington became Thurgood Marshall , but the code is still BWI. It will mean some signs changed.

Good question, Kimo I agree with you 100%.
Still waiting for a reply from you about my questions regarding your "hero" Bernard. If I have missed some major accomplishment that Carvalho has accomplished in his 10- year rein as Mayor please refresh my memory.
Your pal,
Glenn

Glenn,
Never received any email or question about Mayor Carvalho from you? Are you sure you sent it?
Re-send it? I had nothing but positive comments that day.

One accomplishment I like that you do not like that we have debated in the past is the pedestrian trail. He has brought Bryan Baptiste's vision of a coastal trail to life! I like the fact that he is approachable and a mensch.
Aloha, your pal, Kimo

Kimo, they did the same thing in reverse in Minneapolis. There are two terminals at MSP Airport: Terminal 1 (that was named Lindbergh - the main terminal) and Terminal 2 (that was named Humphrey (the smaller airline terminal Sun Country and whatnot). They made it terminal 1 and 2 thinking people would not get confused, but really, if your not familiar with the airport what is the difference?

Tommy, easier than spelling Inouye!

I read it this morning and thought Yeah, Kimo, that makes sense! I bet a lot of people agree

It would be an insult to name the rail after Inouye considering that it is stopped in limbo & may never get any farther.
