Time to Lower political rhetoric

It's time to lower the temperature
on the political rhetoric.
http://www.msn.com/en-us/news/us/five-victims-in-shooting-at-us-congress-baseball-practice/ar-BBCFSOh?li=BBnbcA1
What did you think would happen? With all the bickering, hate and civil discourse with many Americans not accepting Trump as President,  it was only a matter of time until a political assassination attempt would occur.
http://www.cnn.com/2017/06/14/politics/gallery/virginia-gop-shooting/index.html
The shooting at the GOP baseball practice is a wake up call of what can happen and continue if Americans don't lower the political rhetoric.
Congressman Scalise  was shot in
the hip during a baseball practice
for a charity ball game between
the republicans and democrats.
He is  said to be OK! Five others
were injured during the shootout before
the gunman was taken down and killed.
The gunman is a former Bernie
 Sanders supporter.

Friends and family no longer speak to each other-- some are calling this America's second Civil war, although there is nothing civil about what's happening in America. America is on it's way to hell.  It's time to be one America.

"I pledge allegiance to the Flag of the United States of America and to the Republic for which it stands, one nation, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all."

Publishers note;
My blog about political rhetoric (this blog) is in the June 20, 2017 edition of the  Garden Island news after being in the Star-Advertiser, However the Garden Island news added "God" to the pledge of allegiance thanks to my friend Kuuleinani Napuanani Kaninau for pointing out that I left out "God" in my original pledge of allegiance.   Read the enclosed version, the best version yet appears in my favorite newspaper, The Garden Island news!  If you like this opinion piece please click recommend on the enclosed link!  Mahalo.

...and then in the June 23,2017 edition of Honolulu Staradvertiser, (The states largest newspaper)  The writer is correct and when I submitted this same opinion article to the Garden Island news It did it indeed have 'God' in It.    My bad, they are right.  This was originally brought to my attention by friend,  Kuuleinani Napuanani Kaninau
(Copy and pasted for your viewing  since Staradvertiser has a paywall)
America prospers through faith in God

It is indeed time to tone down the vitriol in political rhetoric, as James Rosen points out (“Tone down vitriol in political rhetoric,” Star-Advertiser, Letters, June 16). This is a symptom of our greater problem in continually moving away from our foundations as a nation, as George Washington reminded us in his farewell address from the presidency: “Of all the dispositions and habits which lead to political prosperity, religion and morality are indispensable supports.” Rosen said it is time to be one America, but then leaves out God in quoting the Pledge of Allegiance. The correct wording is: “I pledge allegiance to the Flag of the United States of America and to the Republic for which it stands, one Nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all.”
May we as a people truly seek God’s blessing on America by living His way.
Frank Lutz- McCully-Moiliili

....And another Letter to the Editor in reply to this short opinion piece of mine just stating
that we need to tone things down, yet the left still insist it's all Trumps fault.?
Let’s discuss the issues, please---Garden Island News -June 27,2017

You beat me to it! I hope everyone sees how negative this country has become. Everyone who writes, speaks and acts out hatred is perpetuating negativity. It helps no one accomplish anything. The United States needs unity instead of all this party hatred. I am appalled at some of the posts and tweets I see on the internet. Pure insanity. People, please stop the disrespect. It starts with us.

Seeing a horrendous event like this happen at a baseball game is terrible and should never happen. But none of these tragedies should happen that are in the news each day (car bombings, trucks plowing into innocent civilians, demented idiots slaughtering people for reasons known only to them) but they go on and on.
I know that you disagree but until Trump and his crew are gone this horrendous political unrest will continue.
Stay restful and leave your blog alone until you have a chance to breath and know when it is time to come back.
Your pal,
Glenn

Glenn,
Can't believe your blaming this on Trump? If the shooter is a Democrat: "We need to heal and get past this, we need to be bipartisan, we need to look forward". If the shooter is a Republican: "This is Trumps fault you should all die and rot in hell you disgusting racist, Islamic-phobic, sexist, misogynistic pigs". This is the fault of the late night comedians going to far, it's the fault of everyone on social media calling the president the F word and worse it's and Americas not respecting the office of the President. From the day Trump took office nobody gave Trump a chance, the name calling and finger pointing has not stopped. Glenn today was breaking news, So I blogged. Blogging will be spontaneous, no real schedule, no guest bloggers for now. Your Pal, Kimo

-One of my friends who is a liberal (but one of the more sensible ones) posted that this shouldn't be a partisan thing and we should try to come together. And one part of me says absolutely correct. Yet the other part of me knows that if this guy was a right wing wacko, they'd all be screaming that he represents all of us and how this is only the tip of the iceberg, etc. So I analyze it and realize, that while she is right, it comes back to the media and how they would report it differently if it were the other way around. That's the problem. Not sure how we solve it.

I'll go further, the media and press caused this. They are intentionally reporting the partisan nonsense news all the time, and I do understand that some take this to be real news, and act accordingly. They do.

My friend Ron Kalnitz had a Facebook post that read "I've noticed a lot of folks are taking "Facebook breaks" or "social media moratoriums" today.
When Republicans do wrong we speak out, boycott, demonstrate and riot. When Democrats do wrong we take media breaks. That's cute."

Okay, I will now. What happened is terrible, but our constition allows us to diagree with the government, not to assinate them. So this will not stop the criticisim, in fact more hateful stuff is going to come out. It was a white guy, probably an Anglo, who probably was into gun control.

Carrie Kneubuhl-Eckert said...

1st. We solve it by not being negative and have respect. I disagree totally with Glenn, you have to try to get along. The horrendous political unrest is because the liberals, despite the millions dumped into Hilary's campaign could not believe their false agenda did not win the Americans over. Do you honestly think Trump wants what is bad for the working class Americans? Answer please..He wants us to work and be productive. Cut the bureaucratic waste with money. Bring us a better healthcare (which is not going to please all because we know that is not possible).

No president is going to be popular with all. But did you see the republicans rioting, marching and making plays and all the sh;( the left has done? We put up with 7 years of Obama. ( I gave him one year to see where he was heading). In short, I believe he made America weak and divided people. So we disagree. I could never see a socialist get into office or a lying crooked person. The choice was clear. By no means is president Trump perfect. We all have flaws. I don't like everything he does. But then again, I can say that for everyone I know. The main thing I have seen since president trump has been in office it the total lack of respect and total smear campaign of the liberals. I really don't understand your agenda. But all I can say is at least I am at the twilight of my life so I can chose to turn off the news to see how low Americans have stooped. God bless America because we need it! 🇺🇸

This was a crazy person as is anyone who resorts to violence. It doesn't matter whether he was for or against Trump. I'll admit I hate Trump, but I would never advocate violence. There are legal ways to get rid of Trump which many people are looking into. Protests can & should continue, but I hope they are in the spirit of what Gandhi & Martin Luther King taught about peaceful demonstration. I did use the word hate, but I really feel love for the quest to find freedom & justice for all.

Carrie Kneubuhl-Eckert said...

Why do you want to get rid of the president? And who doesn't have freedom or justice? Legal ways to get rid of Trump?? What are "we " protesting?

Melinda Kontos said...

Beautiful hat!

KimoRosen said...

I have heard that Facebook is giving the secret service the names of people who post anti Trump rhetoric and constantly talk dirt and curse him. What did people expect, in fact many liberals are hiding today, they should be running scared, and I still can't believe they blame this shooting on Trump?

Cali Ente said...

I doubt that FB would do that.

KimoRosen said...

Someone on the bus told me?

Harmony Bentosino said...

I read they are only reporting people who threaten violence.

KimoRosen said...

That sounds more logical, but who knows anymore?

Carrie Kneubuhl-Eckert said...

Climate change happens during millenniums, and I will not depute the world needs to clean its act up. No one has lost their healthcare yet. But I know plenty of people who could not afford health insurance after the ACA, I being one of them. People I know paid a fines to not participate because they could not afford the premiums. So obviously many people were negatively affected by ACA and wanted it to change BIGGLY. What is going on now is a witch hunt. Trump needs to do the same to Hillary and obama to prove the point of how they lied and deceived the American people.

Harmony Bentosino said...

Both sides believe it is the other side who lied & deceived people.

KimoRosen said...

What politician doesn't lie? Politicians are infamous for not telling the truth.
Comedians make a living of telling jokes about politicians lying. However-The Republicans won the election. That is not a lie. You can Google and fact check it on Politifact or Snopes. It's time for Democrats to accept reality, 2020 is another presidential election year.

Respectfully, you forgot "UNDER GOD" ... no matter ones BELIEF we are ONE under a "power greater than us"...

KimoRosen said...

My bad, I looked up the words on Google. I knew something was missing. I guess this is the new PC version. Don't know how I let it get by. :-(

Actually they only added the Under God in the late 50's. What you quoted is the original version.

KimoRosen said...

I like the "Under God" version, that's the one we said every day in elementary, junior and senior high-- and the one I highly prefer!

Harmony Bentosino said...

I saw your letter & knew it was you from the headline. Congrats! I think it's hard to get published there.

I've had over a hundred letters published in the Honolulu newspapersover the years and a couple stand alone guest columns, this was the first # 1 placed lead letter! Thanks- Mahalo Harmony!;-)

Aloha Kimo: in response to Carrie Eckert-
Coming from the right what more would you expect? Trump even finally admits that he is under criminal investigation and we will see where this whole sordid mess goes. His house of cards are slowly coming down and it will be a miracle if he and his misfit appointees are not criminally cha I in no way insinuated that I approved of that Rep getting shot. The NRA and even Trump who supports them have as much responsibly as anyone for the insane action---from the left, right or middle.
My statement was that Trumps idiocy with everything from climate change to our being an isolationist nation CAN cause deranged people like this shooter to take idiot action.
If I had my way no individual except the police and the military would have guns---they kill more innocent people than they ever protect.
Hope you are getting some rest.
Your pal,
Glenn

Carrie Kneubuhl-Eckert said...

why waste my breath except to say. His comment, " coming from the right, what would you expect"? Is a put down?? I have a brain as well, liberals to not have exclusive rights to one. And in a nutshell, I do think this is a witch hunt. The liberals have been out to get him the minute he won. They have been amassing the army's against him. His winning had nothing to do with Russian interference. Now I would not go so far to say no one in Russia has never talked to anyone in the trump campaign. But in the words of the great anointed one, "what difference does it make now"? Liberals have been covering up things since the dems were in office. Please, how could you even think that the U.S attorney general would even try to have a secret meeting with bill Clinton on a tarmac and get away with It? Then comey saying what he did. They thought they were beyond reproach . If Pres. Trump did anything close to that they would be screaming disqualify? There are just two different rules in politics.

Mahalo Kuuleinani Napuanani Kaninau, after sending my submission to the Garden Island news I send them a correction after you pointed out that I left out "God in my original pledge of allegiance. I couldn't believe I did that. I only did it because I copy and pasted the pledge from Google and that's how it came up, I wasn't thinking. Mahalo again my friend for pointing out a crucial point. Aloha

I have always welcomed constructive criticism, it's the people who come on with the 'F' bombs, hate and personal attacks that have been hard to take. With that said being a blogger and frequent opinion writer for numerous periodicals I have grown a thick skin over the years.
