Me too combats  social hugging in Hawaii
Me too, me three, oy vey

The 'Me too' movement could bring no more hugging here in Hawaii as politicians, business people and the common layperson ponder what to do in social situations.  The hug and peck on the cheek especially amongst members of the opposite sex has
long been accepted in the 50th state and is  part of the culture here in Hawaii.  However as a germaphobe, like the western handshake I can do without either.  I prefer the Japanese form of bowing which I learned during my tenure of teaching English as a second language in Japan.

Hawaii 's former state house speaker Joe Souki is accused of sexual harassment. Souki's lawyer says the allegations stem from something that happened
three years ago and is a misunderstanding.  Rachel Wong the accuser and former State department of human services director is saying there was inappropriate touching in public?  Souki who is 84 cant even remember?  Kissing and hugging are as common as the handshake in Hawaii.  A little peck on the cheek or a hug  may have been misinterpreted? Souki allegedly gave her a kiss when she held out her hand for a handshake. Souki then made a comment about being perky according to Wong.

Because of the 'Me too' movement many are afraid to be themselves in fear of some crazy
person coming out and making allegations.  Don't get me wrong there are some parties that do get sexually harassed but this whole movement has created another movement of 'fear.'   Social situations will never be what they were. Everybody will be on guard. One commenter said on a KHON comments  post , "Hope she (Rachel Wong) never comes to one of my family's gatherings. We wouldn't want to "trigger" her." Another commenter said on Facebook, "Our family hugs and kisses everyone, it's a way of life here on the islands."

The Hawaiian lei greeting and a kiss on the cheek is a famous greeting that tourists look
forward to when visiting Hawaii, along with the old expression, “ I got leid in Hawaii," will  all this someday be taboo also because of 'Me too?'

The late legendary world war 2 hero and Hawaii Senator Dan Inouye would have a hard time in this day surviving the 'Me too' movement  because  back in  1992 Inouyeʻs hairdresser, Lenore Kwock, alleged that the senator forced her to have sex with him and that he groped her in a hair salon.
Inouye denied the allegations, as well as unsubstantiated claims that he had abused nine other women.   How would this be handled in this day and age with many men being accused almost on a daily basis of sexual abuse that has created the "Me too movement?

Honolulu international airport  changed it's name to Daniel K. Inouye International airport, last year.  This cost the taxpayers  75 million dollars for
the signage and other renovations.
Many now want the name changed back to 'Honolulu international airport,' plus it's a much easier name to pronounce and remember, count me in on that, 'Me three!"

It's a different world today. Ten years ago  an older woman broke into my home and
demanded sexual favors from me. When I reported this to the police,  they laughed at me because I was a guy? There is such a double standard in the world today. Nobody believes claims of sexual harassment filed  by men.
For better or worse, I  am so  happy to not be a young person in today's politically correct society. I say Me too, to Oy vey!

Golden Words By A Wise Old Owl . 😁😁😁😁

1. "If you want to change the world, do it when you are a bachelor. After marriage, you can't even change a TV channel"

2. "Listening to a wife is like reading the terms and conditions of a website. You understand Nothing, still you agree..."

3. "Chess is the only game in the world, which reflects the status of the husband. The poor King can take only one step at a time...While the mighty Queen can do whatever she likes."

4. "All men are brave. Horror movies don't scare them...But 2 missed calls from a wife...surely can..."

Send this to all men who can smile and all the women who can feel proud of their status after reading this.

Europeans hug and kiss each cheek.

You might want to edit the part where you said, "...there are guilty parties that do get sexually harassed."

That would make them victims, not guilty parties.

In Italy they gives hugs and lips kisses nothing wrong with that. Only idiots thinks it’s a sexual harassment. I’m a massage therapist I’ve seen people just take their clothes off in front of me is that means I’m being harassed? That’s funny 😆 so I touch them naked that means I’m sexually harassing them? That’s even funnier 😂what’s wrong with the society now. Everything is sexual harassment when you show love and compassion it doesn’t mean your going to have sex. I set in my dads lap that means I’m sexually harassing my dad too? That’s observed 😂I believe this people just want attention or money 💰 for themselves.

Mahalo Glenn,

But how did you like the blog with the Me too concept applied to Inouye and social hugging in Hawaii?

Glenn Mickens said...

For me there is nothing inappropriate about a hug and a peck on the cheek. With all my disagreements with JoAnn she always gives me a hug when she sees me and I respect that. I believe it is a great Hawaiian custom and has nothing to do with sex unless the person or person abuses the custom. All my life I have had tendency to put my hands on someone (male or female) while talking to them while trying to make a point and though it has gotten me into trouble once in awhile I believe it had done more good than harm.
When I walk each day I give the cars coming and going the shaka and sooner or later these drivers do the same to me when they see me on the road---just trying to make a friendlier world.
Your pal,
Glenn

Former Hawaii House Speaker Forced Out Over Sexual Harassment
Former House Speaker Joseph Souki is being forced to resign after admitting that he sexually harassed numerous women over the years in his State Capitol office.

The resignation is one of several disciplinary actions ordered against Souki by the Hawaii State Ethics Commission, which released the results of an investigation early Wednesday morning.

Multiple women, including former Department of Human Services Director Rachael Wong, filed ethics complaints against Souki alleging bad behavior.
