Everyone knows that Costco
still sells a $1.50 all beef hot dog and refillable soft drink at all US locations including Alaska and Hawaii.
Costco does not advertise, people just know this fact, whether or not they partake and buy the dog themselves or just know from what we refer to as the coconut wireless here on the islands.
Why does the state of Hawaii and the Hawaii Tourism Authority spend millions of dollars of taxpayer money promoting Hawaii, AKA Paradise?
It seems a place with the moniker "Paradise" and used as backdrops in numerous commercials and as a location for many major motion pictures really doesn’t need much promoting?
The fact of the matter, Hawaii is saturated at this point with visitors. There is no longer an off season.
Residents no longer go to their favorite beaches, restaurants or nightspots because of the crowds.
Friends have told me of longer than normal waits at their doctors offices and the lines at the grocery store can really get out of control.
Traffic, let’s just say,
I am glad I don’t drive. Thank God for the Kauai bus, however the pedestrian trail where I peddle my bicycle has been taken over with rental bikes and tourists everywhere driving 3 abreast and on the wrong side of the lanes. My once refuge the Kapaa public pool has also been saturated with all kinds of new people. Our visitor industry has peeked and reached pandemic stressed proportions.
It’s time to abolish all the organizations that promote Hawaii and advertise Hawaii using taxpaying dollars to the outside world. According to a recent audit the HTA (Hawaii Tourism Authority) spends
tax payers dollars extravagantly with little accountability. According to KHON news, "Some receipts that were submitted were what auditors called "extravagant," such as $50,000 for first-class airfare, more than $400-per-night hotel rooms, compared to other employees' lodging at an average of $266 per night, and even one-day chauffeur service for $369."Thousands are spent on full page ads in national magazines and many 30 second television ads.

The state of Hawaii can use that taxpayer money that was being used to promote Hawaii to
fix-our broken roads, fix the chronic homeless situation and start the ball rolling on affordable housing (somewhat of an oxymoron,) however still a wonderful cause!
The visitor industry has peeked, on top of everything, every week the airlines announce a new nonstop flight from somewhere new, believing this is
such a wonderful accomplishment. The irony , even with all these numerous new flights prices continue to rise. Competition for the airline industry is so desperately needed in an island state with no current Ferry system.
There is absolutely no reason to use taxpayer money to advertise and promote a place referred to as 'Paradise' that so easily sells itself.
It’s time to re-organize or else nobody’s going to want to come to 'Paradise,' although I guarantee they will still buy those $1.50 hot-dogs at Costco, a company that never advertises to outside sources.

Parents Are Calling Babies 'Theybies' To Remove 'Gender Stereotypes'---Ludicrous
I thought this was a Saturday night liver skit. Parents are now raising their children without gender for the first 4 years of their lives and then giving them the choice if they want to be male or female... Read more and watch Tucker Carlson by clicking on the link below.

Still waiting for the Costco burgers!!!
Somebody posted on Kauai Rants and Raves they were in last week but it was a false alarm.Every week I hope I am surprised! ;-) I asked the manager at the outdoor cafe, they said soon? What's soon mean?
Right on target, Kimo. Spend those millions of advertising dollars on our infrastructure where it is so badly needed. As you said, everyone in the world knows about Paradise so why keep giving those gravy jobs to people like Sue Kanoho and the rest when it is not needed.
Your pal,
Glenn
You are correct. I’ve argued in past editorials the state doesn’t need to spend millions advertising Hawaii. By now, everyone knows Hawaii has sunshine, beaches, and snorkeling. I can understand places like Montana trying to get folks there because people don’t know what Montana has in the summer. But do people really need to see a flier to think about coming to Hawaii?
That's what I eat in calories in one day!!!
I’m heading to Costco now!
No not in, just stock photo from internet...
The Hawaii Convention and Tourism Bureau along with Hawaii Tourism Authority need to cease and desist by "We the people." Were not gonna take the madness of out of control taxpayer monies being spent on useless garbage.
Beautifully said by James 😁and yes so true what you are saying.
The reality of it all is this: To be able to maintain the environmental integrity of our ISLAND (s) "paradise" scenario, the aina canNOT be over-used, abused, contaminated, depleted, defiled, denigrated, destroyed, or disturbed by and through the demands of the human population. So, those "in charge" had better come up with the wherewithal to set limits...to monitor impacts being made by those present (including both residents AND visitors).....to determine what can, should, and must be done to "malama aina" effectively and efficiently!
Well said Mr. B. Elections are around the corner, if not now, when?
It would help tremendously if those who seek to become public officials would clearly exress THEIR ideas, proposals, policies, and procedures to maintain and perpetuate environmental integrity. What would each do? Where does each stand on specific concerns? How does each regard that emphasis in respect to environmental integrity? Those candidates who don't focus on this subject or have "nothing to say"----I would scratch off my list! Hopefully, the candidates will begin to articulate with clarity and sincerity----what they have to say about environmental integrity concerns and issues!
Mel Rapozo has a great webpage and in my opinion will make the best Mayor for Kauai. He is open to talk and list his cell phone number under contact on this webpage I am including. http://www.melforkauai.com/
Excellent point!
Agreed. Sue Kanoho of the visitor's bureau is complicit in the destruction of the islands as are the real estate moguls
Where is the low income housing for the local people, where are drug and alcohol centers, that are non profit, save beautiful Koloa town from all the developing, where is the sewer going into our streams, too much, more boats on the napalm coast $$$$$$$$enough...
