Kollar, Like, Iseri, politics and the dollar
The good book says, “ For the love of money is the root of all evil.” 1 Timothy 6:10
I have come to realize public politics is the root of all evil.

County Prosecutor Justin Kollar

left his elected position three years early and is costing taxpayers and the county of Kauai nearly $500,000 for a special election to fill the void.

In the interim  Rebecca Like (pronounced Lee-kay) who has served as third in command the last nine years in Kollar’s (pronounced Koler) office has taken over the prosecutor's position until the special election results are in.

The election will be between Shaylene Iseri, a family law attorney in Lihue who previously served as  Kaua'i county prosecutor for 12 years. Kollar challenged Iseri, and won, in 2012.

The next primary election is August 13, 2022, with the next general election for the county and state being on  Nov. 8, 2022.

The question remains;

why couldn’t Rebecca Like retain her interim position an additional 6 months and wait for the next primary election and add the prosecutor's job to that ballot? This could save the county almost a half-million bucks?

 A law should be made

whereas any politician that leaves their elected position early that causes a special election should be liable for all costs of a special election? Better yet, the county or state should just wait for the next election to fill any void?

Commencing the next election as I currently feel, I will not publicly endorse any politician which includes the upcoming special election for a new county prosecutor.

Public politics and

supporting any candidate of any party or no party has become a cancer of the soul. Cancel culture, general hate, and folks not being able to handle comedy any longer hasn't helped matters.

I have been unfriended by a local politician that was once a friend because of

one of many things I publicly endorsed his rival,  yet they remained friends. I have also been unfriended by many over an ex-president I supported of whose name I won't mention. No politician is worth losing friends or family over.

My parents and most elders of my generation drilled into us to not discuss politics or religion in public. They were right.

Politicians and politics have caused me nothing but misfortune.
Therefore, starting

the next election I will endorse no politician publicly.  The only one who will know whom I endorse is between me, my creator, and the privacy curtain of the voting booth.

It’s time to make the privacy curtain in the voting booth great again, and if you happen

to use a mail-in absentee ballot it’s time to fill that buggah(sic) out in private and NOT post it on social media for the world to see.

As far

as the upcoming County Prosecutor special election goes, it's just a matter of whom you like, or should I say leekay,(sic) no pun intended.

This blog appeared as an Op-ed/Opinion column
in the Thursday-12-02-21 edition of
The Garden Island News!

A reader of The Garden Island Newspaper called me a liar in the Sunday edition.  I had to respond.  I never respond to my haters but this guy over the years has continually busted my chops.  I finally decided to write back.  The paper published my response in today’s paper. There’s also a short letter encouraging me to keep writing!😎👍
The Garden Island news has a paywall therefore I copied the print edition.

Perry apologizes to Kimo
Hi Kimo. My memory isn’t as sharp as it once was, and I made some mistakes in reference to your piece in the 12/02/21 TGI. The timing. In my mind, it was something between six months and a year.

I ended up writing around a year, and that was wrong. Now reading your piece again, you are exactly right and I was exactly wrong regarding you not writing any more political stories.

It seems that I took that in from a perspective of wishful thinking. With that, I apologize, and you didn’t lie. Down the road, I’m sure that our paths will cross again.

I liked the Paul Harvey sign-off, “good day.” His voice was wonderful for radio with his pauses and just the right amount of dead air for his audience to ponder what he said. I didn’t like his right-wing politics, though.

The divided states of America

 Joe Biden received

80million votes. No way, Joe Biden received 80 million votes. The same can be said for the vaccine and Donald Trump on America seeming ever divided.

Even the Olympics was divided with some athletes taking a knee for the US flag.
Many said they

would never watch the Olympics again and these Olympians should go compete for another country.

While some Olympians competed as women even though they were born men. This upset many.

Pro-life, pro-choice,

some say life begins at conception, others say life begins at birth.

Then there's Afghanistan and the ever-going debate on recreational marijuana, and don't get me going on circumcision.

I say toe-mah-toe,(sic) You say toe-may-toe(sic)...

The TV cable and

streaming services feature movies and ads that seem more perverted and X rated than family-related tv. The dialogue and language in these movies sound more like what we used to call, 'the talk of drunken sailors' in my day.  You definitely wouldn’t want your mother to hear this kind of language.

There is a worldwide

pandemic that seems to be ever-lasting and getting worse instead of better. Some believe the pandemic is a communist plot, others believe it to be the end of times, others just a hoax.

Every night on the news, a new natural disaster, major floods in the subway systems of New York City, hurricane damage in New Jersey, and all over the east coast.

New Orleans was nearly destroyed.  The worst wildfires ever on America's West Coast. Mudslides, twisters, typhoons, major snowstorms, and hail storms are as common as Apple pie.

Many believe this

is happening because of man's disobedience to God. There are those who believe it's called climate change, previously known as a global warning until huge snowstorms still happened in the winter months.

All this was predicted in

the bible. There are the optimists who believe things will get better and back to normal, and there are those that believe this is the beginning of the end.

Just like every story has a beginning and end, so does every human. Enjoy what time

you have left on planet earth and do what you need to do to become right.
I believe you know what that is, many believe it's reading the bible and consulting with clergy while others believe it's a trip on magic mushrooms and a magical mystery tour.
The pledge of allegiance should now read, "I pledge allegiance to the flag of the divided states of America..."

For now, I’m sure glad football season is upon us!

For the record-A letter to the editor/Give the Lt Governor some respect.

For the record...
A letter to the editor appeared that I penned in the Garden Island News
on Tuesday, August 17,2021
James "Kimo" Rosen,

Give the Lt Governor some respect

I am not a Democrat however I  am appalled by the way a good portion of the general public and many of those that are 'Democrats' are now eating their own.
Hawaii Lt. Governor Dr. Josh Green has been working tirelessly around the clock to help the people of Hawaii fight the pandemic.

The woke police and cancel culture are after the wrong guy again. When was the last time you spent weekends as an ER doctor? The Lt. Governor does. When was the last time you volunteered your time to fly to Samoa and go door to door to give the measles vaccines to the Samoan people back in December of 2019 when they had a Measles outbreak that was killing many, including Keiki? The Lt. Governor did!
The measles vaccine was welcomed as a Godsend back then.

When was the last time any politician volunteered to give the COVID vaccine to his constituents? Dr. Green did, and still does!
Protestors a few days back protested in front of the Lt. Governors' personal residence because they don't like the way he's handling the COVID crisis. The Lt. Governor has a wife and young children living there.  That was callous and heartless. Dr. Green mentioned he has no problem with protestors going to his office but his personal residence, really?

To all the community leaders and social media junkies busting the Lt. Governors chops about his handling of COVID and his endless work ethic of trying to keep us safe, I say where and when did you get your medical license?

When was the last time any of you volunteered to administer vaccines, or fly to a foreign country during a medical crisis and volunteer your Kokua while holding down two full-time jobs? The Lt. Governor did.

God bless Dr. Green!

Algorithms versus Al Gore rhythms

Dear Readers,
I am trying hard to be creative, witty, and nonpolitical in these trying times with this
tongue-in-cheek yet to learn from blog that I hope you laugh and forget about the
pandemic for a few minutes.
Trying to channel my mentors, Art Buchwald and Andy Rooney!

It seems every time I go grocery shopping the line is 12 deep, as soon as I am finished the check line is empty.

The same holds true

when I go to order food at fast food establishments and food trucks, as soon as I order there is nobody left in line.

Traffic is outrageous on

the Garden Island. Traffic is deep as I am on the bus.
My bus drops me at the Costco fine dining outdoor cafe. The line is long.

I finally purchase my signature hot dog and drink for $1.50.  I take my seat and low and behold, nobody, and I mean nobody in line, the line is empty.

This theory also holds true in the doctor's office.  My luck had it when I arrived the waiting room was swamped with 10 people. The wait was over an hour just to see the doctor. I finally finish the appointment and there is one person in the waiting room.

The public pool

is no exception, with their COVID rules of only 7 swimmers allowed at a time. I always get there when there is a waiting line of 5-8- deep. You guessed it, as soon as I am pau swimming the pool seems to mysteriously empty?

Karma, luck, or call it algorithms, this is driving me nuts!

Do not mistake an Al Gore

rhythm for an algorithm. Al Gore Rhythm has even been enshrined in the Urban Dictionary, which defines it as an individual or object with annoyingly stiff, robotic motions.   Algorithms are solid facts and have a rhythm and special timing, the irony is Al Gore had no rhythm.   Did you ever see the former Vice President dance? Wouldnt' that make an Al Gore rhythm an oxymoron?

In the most general sense,

an algorithm is a series of instructions telling a computer how to transform a set of facts about the world into useful information.

They say because of algorithms you should like your own posts on Facebook, it will then show in more of your friend's newsfeeds.

I have played with

my real-life algorithms. I now leave my home 15 minutes after the time  I would normally leave, thinking I will avoid all the long lines and traffic!   Guess what?  To my surprise, I ran into longer lines and more traffic.

Algorithms may

work for computer nerds, however, for those of us in the real world, it remains hit and miss. Hopefully, you still have a few lucky days left in that motherboard ram of life!

 The best way to avoid

all the long lines and traffic is to virtually visit your doctor with a  telemedicine appointment on the computer and order all your material goods from amazon or a grocery online delivery service.  God willing, your luck will change and your algorithms will finally be in sync.

Otherwise, if all else fails knock your socks off and dance the night away with an out of sync and robotic 'Al Gore rhythm'
