An old lady offers the bus driver some peanuts…so the driver happily munches them. Every 5 minutes she gives him a handful more peanuts..

Driver: Why don’t you eat them yourself?

Old lady: I can’t chew. Look, I have no teeth..

Driver: Then why do you buy them?

Old lady: Oh, I just love the chocolates around
them!

"The Patriarchs..." 'Bettejo Dux' (Classic Wednesday)

Bettejo Dux  with her Irish cane called a Shillelagh.
They say you shouldn't talk about religion or politics if you want

peace. Well today the talk is on religion... Enjoy!
Bettejo  has lived on Kauai over 30 years and is a people lover,
animal lover and lover of life....

The Patriarchs

I don't like them.  They don't like me.

Actually they usually stay out of my way, as I stay out of theirs. They know better than to  storm my gates. They'll get my shillelagh across their broad behinds.

Nevertheless,  a truly deep concern for women, little children, the future, keeps me in the game.

Their harangue, their harassment, their fear and guilt and sin and hate peddling simply cannot be ignored. The American ones-the worst in the world- stand in the pulpits and TV screens and rant and rave and froth. They parrot, in mind, deeds and action  the god they created some fourteen hundred years ago.

Fourteen hundred years ago? What's that?

...and here we are  back to Emperor Constantine, the Church of Rome, the Pope with a direct line to the great Jewish horror, Jehovah,  the Inquisition, witch burnings, the plagues, the Dark Ages begin here.  The whole sick sick sick shebang. I think if I were today's version, I wouldn't take much pride in 'my' history.

And it certainly is 'his' story.

The incredible delight of the pagan gods, these powerful, very human fantasy creatures were done in by them like enemys of the state. The pagan gods loved sex, nudity, war,  but they had  balance, a saving grace.  Gods and goddesses of nature, peace. hearth and home,  the great god Pan and his pipes, replaced with a father, an abused son, a holy ghost -come on- and one insipid virgin who took the place of  a panoply of gorgeous, glorious, powerful  women.

Most people have never even heard of them. Except  on those rare occasions when the word 'pagan' comes up and it is bad mouthed, regaled and banished from a state of human experience. Understand, I am not 'selling' paganism, but I am suggesting you at least peer into these historical times.

Venus Rising by Botticelli-she looked like Julia Roberts-Leda and the Swan by Reubens,  Yeats' poetry, mythology and wonder  were disappeared. Hung in museums, buried in esoteric university libraries and studies. The Greek and Roman and Norse gods and goddesses shoved down the memory hole to be replaced by : let me quote Richard Dawkins, "The God of the Old Testament,  arguably the most unpleasant character in all fiction, jealous and proud of it, a petty unjust unforgiving control-freak; a vindictive blood thirsty ethnic cleanser; a misogynist, homophobe; racist, infanticidal, genocidal, felicidal, pestilential, megalomaniacal, sadomasochistic, capricious malevolent bully."

Humankind has been living with this nut case for how many years? Raise your hands if you know the answer.

I do hope you're aware that in the past-even the recent past- voices like Richard's did not for long remain attached to bodies.

Today there is still a stigma-an orthodoxy, as Hedges might say-against speaking out against religion. Religious criticism was verbose. It was not nice, in polite society, to expose religious beliefs, no matter how nutty, hateful, gaunt, greedy, stupid and childish it was.

To dare suggest it is a fierce, powerful, disgusting  force to contend with, expose and bring  down is naughty.

Well naughty is as naughty does. Dawkins and Hitches and Harris are fighting back.

Let the games begin.

A Funny Joke...

Morris and his wife Esther went to the state fair every year, and every year Morris would say, 'Esther,I'd like to ride in that helicopter.' Esther always replied, 'I know Morris, but that Helicopter ride is fifty dollars, and fifty dollars is fifty dollars'

One year Esther and Morris went to the fair, and Morris said, 'Esther, I'm 85 Years old. If I don't ride that helicopter, I might never get another chance.' To this, Esther replied, 'Morris that helicopter ride is fifty dollars, and fifty dollars is fifty dollars.'

The pilot overheard the couple and said, 'Folks I'll Make you a deal. I'll take the both of you for a ride. If you can stay quiet for the entire ride and not say a word, I won't charge you! But if you say one word, it's fifty dollars.'

Morris and Esther agreed and up they went. The pilot did all kinds of fancy maneuvers, but not a word was heard. He did his daredevil tricks over and over again, but still not a word.

When they landed, the pilot turned to Morris and said, 'By golly, I did everything I could to get you to yell out, but you didn't. I'm impressed!'

Morris replied, 'Well, to tell you the truth, I almost said something when Esther fell out, but you know, fifty dollars is fifty dollars!':)

"Filibuster, Smilibuster,Democracy is a nebulous creature..." James "Kimo" Rosen'

If your Senator (s) did not vote in accordance with 91% of Americans
who favored stricter  background checks on purchasing guns
do not, I repeat do not re-elect them, they represent the NRA and the almighty dollar and not the people.

Filibuster, Smilibuster,Democracy Is A Nebulous Creature

Democracy is a nebulous creature. The recent gun reform legislation favoring stricter background checks was defeated in the senate even though it won a majority of 56 yeas to 46 no's.

Ninety one percent of Americans favor stricter background checks yet the bill was defeated even in the aftermath of the Sandyhook massacre where 20 children and six adults were slaughtered with an assault rifle.

We are the only Democratic nation that requires 60 % of the vote verses 51% when a bill is filibustered. This is a political tactic  challenging a bill with long tireless debates that go on for hours, 60% of votes are then required.

Since  president Obama became president nearly every bill is filibustered, a scheme by Republicans to try and make  President Obama fail verses what's best for our great nation.

To any Republicans and 4 Democrats who voted against stricter background checks, imagine if one of the children gunned down at Sandyhook elementary school was yours ?

If your Senators did not vote in accordance with the 91% in favor of stricter background checks, by all means do not re-elect them. I am proud to say both my Hawai'i Senators, Brian Schatz and Mazie Hirono voted with the president on this crucial matter.

May God Bless America, we surely need it.

"The Beauty of Disasters..." 'James"Kimo" Rosen

"When you awake, acknowledge G-d for giving you a soul with the
extraordinary power and versatility to endure despite trying challenges..."

The Beauty of Disasters

The Boston marathon will forever be  damaged goods from now until eternity. No matter how anyone wants to not think of the tragic day even if not in their immediate thoughts will hang on subliminally.

During the crisis in Boston total strangers were opening their homes to runners not able to get home, offering free food and shelter to total strangers.

A few restaurants offered free  WiFi and just a gathering place to hang out and were told to  order what you like, pay what you can, even if that's nothing.

There is a beauty In  the face of disaster. On Kaua'i during the aftermath of Hurricane Iniki the true meaning of aloha was ever present. People become human  among all the chaos and evil of disasters , while  the true meaning of humanity comes to light.

If only we could only learn to act like this in the reality of everyday life.

" Praying For Peace..." 'Judith Whitehead' (Inspiration Sunday)

"Guest-blogger Judith Whitehead lives in Amherst N.Y. and has worked in the ophthalmology field of medicine for over 30 years..." Today she talks about the recent Tragedy in Boston... Please pray and
send positive energies to all affected by this evil.!

Praying for peace

In view of what horror and sadness has occurred in our country this week, I am sending a shout out to all those that have suffered for no reason other than evil that has once again invaded our country.  We will forever need to keep our guard up,  for these people walk among us and carry evil in their hearts.

I pray that these deeds will go punished and be an example for all those who mean us harm; and I am praying for all those innocent people that have suddenly had their lives changed forever and those that have passed away from injuries, they will not be forgotten.

"Reality Show Results..." 'James "Kimo" Rosen'

The only thing better than Reality TV is fishing!

Reality Show Results

Reality TV has become more popular than sitcoms, dramas and movies. I have become a victim of watching reality TV and enjoy the simplicity of it.

For the American idols fans out there out there I can predict the top 2 with a simple formula. Just go to each remaining contestants Facebook page,  remember social media tells it all, and whoever has the most likes will be the winner! The TV show the Voice will work the same way when down to the final 3

American Idol final two this year will be  # 1 Angie Miller with 63,000 Facebook likes and #2 Candice Glover with 20,000 Facebook likes...

My theory works, stay tuned!

... And the winner is Angie Miller!

"We Are Boston..." 'James "Kimo" Rosen'

"We are Boston..."
Aloha, Check out my opinion article in today's (04-18-13)
edition of the Kaua'i Garden Island News," We Are Boston..."
http://thegardenisland.com/news/opinion/mailbag/letters-for-thursday-april/article_efbae37a-a7f2-11e2-aeda-001a4bcf887a.html

We Are Boston

Boston could be anywhere, We are Boston.

Suicide bombers are a common denominator in the Mideast  You never know when you get on a bus if it's going to be blown up by someone thinking they are doing God's work.

I believe America is in store for a reality check from our reality show mentality  to reality itself.

What happens if you go to your favorite restaurant or shopping mall  and it is bombed?  What happens when the reality of real life
is bombings and mass shootings.

What happens now?
