"Imagine instead of smart meters, we could initiate 'smart politicians!" 'Obama Da Dog'

"Many electric companies across the country want to install smart meters, to help them save time and money but many believe smart meters have ill effects one ones health..." http://stopsmartmeters.org/ /

Smart meters have been a hot topic in the  news the last couple of months especially on the Garden Island of Kauai.

Imagine instead of smart meters, we could initiate 'smart politicians!'

If we had smart politicians  there  would be no need for smart meters, since the  'smart politicians' would do their homework before installing thousand of devices that may not be safe.

I guess I am just fantasizing about smart politicians, somewhat of an oxymoron like jumbo shrimp.

via facebook;""A couple of years ago, our local utility (San Diego Gas & Electric) installed “smart meters” and lots of people have been complaining that, right or wrong, it calculates a higher volume of energy transmission in the past.

For me, with the solar panels turning the meter backwards and selling back to the utility, I did notice that we got CREDITED with more production than before, so for the few of us who are "consumer generators" maybe we come out OK, but for the vast majority of consumers, looks like they're getting a raw deal.

I do not trust corporate utilities at all, look forward to eventually severing the cord altogether, and the only way it is "smart" is smart as in "evil genius" as they think of more and better ways to gouge consumers.

P.S. -- our local utility has concocted a scheme to charge a separate additional fee to solar users to make up for the extra energy we produce for them. Fortunately, it has to be approved by our regulatory state agency, which is trying to encourage more solar/wind and other, and I doubt it will get approved.

Be very, very cautious about the smart meters.
In most places, including where I am, where people have them, they seem to make things worse for most consumers."

‎"2-D" What about smart politicians? Is it an Oxymoron as I suggested..?

Well, there are certainly plenty of smart ass politicians.

And certainly, as loyal as I am to the Democrats, there is plenty of corruption and incompetence in both parties (though I do think it goes more the other way....)

But in fairness, I have known some really honest, caring, smart politicians who have tried to tilt against the windmills of the special interests. Sure, they are outnumbered and outspent, but we do need to at least recognize and applaud them where we find them and send more to joint their ranks."

My take is they start out with the right motives, but something like a virus destroys them all evebtually, people that would make the best politicians would not spend millions of dollars to display their names in bold print, they would use it to feed the hugr, create jobs, etc..

Well, Kimo, the system is set up to mandate the requirement of raising money to survive, and too many succumb to the need to genuflect at the altars that pour forth a fount of dollars.

But Kimo, where we differ, is that word "ALL." I know too many (including those of my party) who, as you say, started out well intentioned and got corrupted, but I also know enough, from both parties, including the opposite party (compare Jeff Flake, Republican congressman from Arizona -- I disagree with his policy views, but the man has 100% rock solid integrity), to know that the word "ALL" is unfair.

We do an injustice if we do not recognize the few and seek to expand their numbers. From either party."

OK, "2-D" You have my vote!

Better to be a consultant or commentator from the sidelines and influence the terms of debate.

But he'd have my vote, too, if he would run, though I'm not sure that would be the right role for him.
I'd for for Kimo, though! Twice if I could!"

via facebook;"Just curious..whats the ill affects these meters have on ones health, besides the pocket book? Are the smart meters in your area just meters that have the ability to run backwards for solar producers, and also charge more during peak use ti...mes, and less during off-peak? I thought the idea was to encourage less use during the peak times. Meaning people would start doing laundry and other electrical consuming duties midday, and late at night etc..??"

via facebook;"I am not aware of any allegations of any health effects to one's physical well-being, only to one's financial well being.

Instead of having a meter that is manually read once every month, the "smart" meters are connected digitally and reco...rd constant usage all the time.

In that way, yes, the meters can monitor who is using the most energy at the peak times. Right now, my utility (San Diego Gas and Electric) offers an OPTION for those with "smart" meters (which I think by now is everyone) of being able to change the rate basis to different rates during different times of day, so that use during off peak hours would be less than peak hours.

At the same time, they want to penalize solar "consumer generators" who are on the grid but produce more than we use, but the fact is that we produce our energy when the sun is shining. These are the daytime hours, when schools, offices, stores and factories are operating, and when air conditioning is being used. Because we overproduce during peak hours, and draw from the grid at night when the sun is not shining, we help the utilities avoid the need to add new power generation, and make use of capacity during the off-peak. SDG&E is the only utility that has proposed this absurd penalty to disincentivize consumer generators. Clearly we are a threat to them! The good news is that it has to be approved by state regulators (hearings will be next summer) and politicians from both sides of the aisle are lining up against it, since many school districts, city buildings, county buildings and private businesses have gone solar, and many individuals and businesses who have not hope to do so in the future."

via facebook;"sounds like a smart idea. We don't have a dense enough population to get smart meters yet, but see the value of them, as well as the smart grid system, which sounds like a great concept but not easy to intergrate with existing utlity supply..."

James Kimo Rosen Steve and Doug, “Smart” meters emit a Class 2B carcinogen into people’s homes. ‘Smart’ meters are toxic–adding 10,000+ strobing pulses of radio-frequency microwaves into customers’ lives. The RF peaks inside a ‘smart’-metered home exceed what a nearby cellphone antenna array would contribute, an RF source already known to harm humans.

“Smart” meters are making many, many people sick. Accounts continue to pour into SmartMeterHelp.com, and EMFSafetyNetwork.org.

“Smart” meters are not safe. They have caused fires and explosions, shocks, arcing, appliance damage, and interference, and continue to do so. These devices lack UL certification. No utility has the right to endanger people and property.

The meter is entirely outside the house and, as far as I know, the only difference is that it can constantly monitor and measure real time energy consumption instead of just being a number that gets recorded once a month when the meter is read."
