"The Gift..." 'Judith Whitehead' (Inspiration Monday)

"Guest-blogger Judith Whitehead lives in Amherst N.Y. and has worked in the
ophthalmology field of medicine for over 30 years...
Today she talks about  the ultimate gift!  Enjoy...

A few months ago,  a friend that I had known since high school,  that I was able to reconnect with via the web  passed away after  suffering several years  with  cancer.  On the very same day,  another high school friend that I have kept in touch with for the last 40 years became a grandmother for the first time.
Is this happenstance, is this coincidence and is it true that when one life leaves this earth another  takes their place.  Last month  there was a terrible accident down the street from me that caused two people to lose their lives just moments before I drove down that very lane.  This past weekend we were driving through an intersection when a van ran the red light and there by the grace of God we were spared and only our car was damaged; we walked away.

All of these occurrences’ have made me become very introspective lately and have made me realize that each of these instances were sudden and unplanned   It is true that each day we wake up  we have no clue what is in store for us.  Each day is another gift of life and is meant to be meaningful and not wasted.

I have taken on the philosophy that each day must matter and something good must come out of it for we don’t really know what life has in store for us. If you have goals and dreams don’t put them off until a better time to accomplish them because that day may never come.  Without sounding morbid,  make each day count; take a moment to listen to the leaves blowing, the birds talking and enjoy the silence of the day.  Take a few moments to reflect on how  your present day was spent and go to sleep at night knowing you made the best use of your day.  Enjoy your gift.
