Publishers note;
Aloha Readers,
I was finally comfortable wearing my MAGA hat and T-shirt in public! Just me and a bunch of other deplorables
enjoying a 4th of July picnic. Snowflakes would have never lasted in the hot July sun. Read why I have decided to support the Republican agenda. I think once you study the issues you may come to the same conclusions as me?

I finally felt comfortable wearing my MAGA hat in public

This past 4th of July was a special  Independence Day. I was invited to
a Republican party barbeque right here on Kaua'i.
Steve Yoder the chair of the local Republican party along with his lovely wife Tina sponsored an awesome BBQ  featuring Nina's patriotic band.
Food was never-ending.  Hamburgers,  sausage hot links, marinated kalbi beef, teriyaki chicken along
with glatt kosher hot dogs steamed in Budweiser beer then grilled to a perfect char with an array of side dishes from fried wontons, potato salads, bean salads,  a variety of olives, watermelon, whiskey, beer, soft drinks and so much more to even mention.

Since becoming a Trump supporter I have felt quite isolated, especially living
in a dominated Democratic state. I have been shunned in restaurants and have been given the short treatment by professionals on the phone.

It felt great at the barbeque, just me and a bunch of deplorables not having to deal with a bunch of snowflakes, they would have melted in the July 4th sun anyhow.

For the first time in 3 years since a friend gifted me a 'Make American Great Again'
T-shirt and hat I was able to wear them in pride.  I had worn my MAGA hat before but was always uncomfortable wearing it,  however, on this Independence day  I had a sense of comradery, finally getting together with folks with like minds.

I have always considered myself an Independent, however with all that's going on in
the world one must take sides. Just like Bob Dylan once wrote," It may be the devil, or it may be the Lord, but you're going to have to serve somebody."
I have chosen The party of 'Pro-Life,'  the party of 'the right to bear arms' and support the second amendment, and the party to keep Israel as our friend. It truly amazes me as a man of the Jewish faith that most of my fellow Jews for some reason are Democrats and support their pro-Palestinian agenda. Finally, the number one reason to support the Republican's is their commitment to keeping America safe through border security.
   USA, USA, USA!

“James” please make up your mind… I thought you were an Obama supporter??? Now all of a sudden you support that idiot in the WH… He’s an absolute embarrassment to the rest of the world. But you go ahead and support him that’s your choice. And please continue to wear your maga hat “proudly”… Kauai GOP BBQ (laughable)….

Good letter Kimo! Only in a free Country can stupid, naïve, and immature adults, who think like children, make one feel bad about wearing a hat that says Make America Great Again! President Trump is the best thing that’s happened to these “children” in their lifetimes!

Kimo; If I walked around wearing a hat that said “F**k You” I would expect a negative reaction. If I supported the NAMBLA organization (google it) and made it known to the community, I would expect to be shunned and ostracized except by those who shared my unacceptable views. You’ve made your bed and made your choices; the majority of folks don’t agree with your views. Get over it and quit whining, snowflake. Trumpers give it to everyone else, but can’t take it and play the victim. SMH.

There is a specific, necessary component left out of this letter that would be surmised only by a person leading an examined life. The 7 to 1 voter registration on Kauai indicates that 70% lead examined lives and direct empathy and aloha towards others. About 10-15% are undecided or disinterested. That leaves 15-20% who choose to support donald j. trump, an avowed birther racist, a serial molester of women (self admitted on a bus), an enabler of bigotry, a stone cold liar, one who divides for personal gain, a crooked businessman, a golf cheat, a tax cheat, and someone wallowing in narcissism; certifiably!.
That component, the one that leads to a MAGA(T) Hat, is a total lack of shame!

Steven McMacken July 9, 2019 4:23 am Reply
I am heartened to learn that you are no longer too uncomfortable to wear your MAGA cap out in public, Kimo. After all, there’s no shame in wanting to make America great.

I had no idea how difficult it has been for you over the past couple of years. Given short shrift by professionals? And shunned in restaurants? Gosh, that must have been painful to have to sit at your table and imagine that the other patrons were averting their eyes or, worse, pretending that you weren’t there! I didn’t realize you were such a big deal, let alone that you were important enough TO be shunned. But try not to dwell on it. Perhaps you can take solace with the fact that you and Sarah Huckabee Sanders share something in common.

I am just thankful that you have finally found your rightful place with like-minded folks — and that you’re supporting the party that wants to keep Israel as our friend. But here’s the deal, don’t you find it curious that of the total of 34 Jews in the House and Senate, that an overwhelming number (32) are Democrats and only two are Republicans?

I am so sorry, James. that you have been given a hard time by those less aware than yourself.

The nerve of those folks, isolating you, shunning you in restaurants, and being given short treatment by professionals on the phone.

And the Federal Justice system, dis-allowing Trump from blocking critical Tweets from his Twitter account because it infringes on their First Amendment rights! What’s the matter with these judges? Have they no respect for authoritarianism?

And Jews! Why in the world would fellow Jews fly in the face of your wisdom? I just don’t get it. Don’t they understand that Netanyahu is just looking out for Jews when he seeks to crush the Palestinians and their crazy ideas of re-acquiring territories historically theirs which were seized by Israel, and establishing an independent state? Don’t they see that these primitive cavemen deserve to just go away, never to be see or heard from again? What Jew could possibly argue with the logic of Israel’s great leader?

But wait. All those folks recognize that President Trump. who you so revere, is a Barnum and Bailey showman, a loudmouth who hates women (unless they are young and lovely and deserving of his attentions) and Muslims and Hindus and Blacks and Hispanics and just about anyone who is not white and who does not line up to lap at his teats with a promise never to nip or to question his authority.

Trump is a sickness, a cancer on our democracy, and a symbol of fear and hate and greed. Throw the bum out and get someone into the White House who better understands how a democracy works.

If you object to a 2020 Democratic presidential candidate who is a woman, a Hispanic, a Black, an Asian, a Hindu, you could always support Bernie. He’s a fellow Jew, but you might be having problems with the fact that his head is screwed on righter than Donnies…

Craig Millett July 9, 2019 7:42 am Reply
So, James you have painted yourself into a tiny corner and then you wonder why others of your “faith” don’t seem to want to join you there. Perhaps you might consider asking them and then listening to what they tell you. Their answers might open your mind and let you escape into the light.

I’m wondering where the aloha spirit went, based on the majority of the responses above it is dead and buried. So much hate and venom in these responses, it sickens me. you can get your point across without being hateful, but apparently no one cares to do that on the island anymore……….

Carrie Eckert-July 10.2019

It is very sad to read these comments. Kimo is saying how he feels and most responses to his letter are personal attacks on him. You people that are attacking him and spewing vitriol at him, are no better than the person you hate.

You don’t have to be a big deal or important to have people shun, avert their eyes or pretend you aren’t there. It happens to people around the world on a daily basis because they are different. It starts in schools. Lucky you if you missed being teased and where always so popular.

And why do you feel the need to be sarcastic and rude. Were you people bullied as a child and this is payback time? Does this make you feel better?

I have to ask myself why is the NAMBLA even on someone’s radar. I have seen plenty of F**k you t-shirts and much worst and people don’t seem to be phased by it. But wear a Trump support shirt or hat and you can get yourself beat up.

Do you all feel better now? Attacking people for their opinions is just wrong. It’s just the same as attacking one's race, sexuality, or religion. It is so disheartening to continually see the name-calling banter on here. I wonder, would it even be possible for you all to exercise some self-control and try not to attack fellow humans.

Please refrain yourselves from writing that I must agree with Trump on all aspects of your points because I don’t. My point here is to make you realize that words hurt. That is what we are trying to teach our children so we don’t have so many child suicides.

Maybe then we can Make America Great Again.

As Bob Dylan said…”stuck in the middle with you…”…the far deep middle who could care less about any political opinion…or either side of the same swamp.

However the shrewd, wild cat “awfully” wealthy business man non politician and the first to be elected President of his ilk, is too much for those used to the same old wambly mambly blatantly corrupt politicians lawyers and back room deals former presidents that Mr.Trump shares much of also, and does anyone actually give a hoot…when it’s a corrupt Dem or Repub…past present or future?

From Viet Johnson who killed millions of civilians across the Pacific (OxyMoron) and 10’s of thousands of our own along with Tricky Dick the Nixonion; and World Trader Center (what happened to Building #7…? ? ?) Bush Boy and his deceptively snidely Dickie Cheney…with their 100 story Red Herrings that allowed war for No Weps of Mass Destruct…and a zillion more dead including our own who taken right after high school of lifetime Christian education and in a few weeks become trained mass murderers…some of whom later release their terror on our own…and then “Truman” not too distant from “Trump man” who firebombed 25,000 civilian towns and cites in Japan prior to dropping a Big Macker and a Whopper on more civilians…hardly a civilized Christian performance…and the bleeding vengeful don’t want a cut of the same cloth as the others who wants to make America Great Again, assuming that means like Hawaii Pre-European contact…see it was the English all along not the run of the mill Haole what did in both pure and natural life lands like America and Hawaii turned into to overrun and polluted with humans and their waste lands…

But how did this creepy high end ruthless business man embrace the low income people of América…like if you make $2,000 a month he just lowered your taxes by 50%…ask or be sure your tax person knows about it..and saved the small businesses that hire you from going out of business, and you out of work, by lowering their taxes by 20%.

Who loves you baby…yep…it’s Trump up in his Tower, more wild and crazy than most…and lascivious…but not collusive…why do the rich guys get the pretty women…it couldn’t be the money honey…! ! !

All the Jawaii Democratic Governors’ horses and all those Governors’ men couldn’t get unemployment down or the economy up, never mind Humpty…no, we had to wait for MAGA Face and mega hair to do it. He embraced us all, helped us all…no racism, Religionism, and all the other ‘isms aside..he lived up to his word…making America Great Again…and so far so good…no wars.

Wages getting so good and unemployment so low, even lifer welfare slugs went back to work…hooray making Jawaii and America Great Again with greater income.

Hey Trumpy, I’ll have another round…!

NONE of you Trump-loving crybabies have anything to complain about when you get your tender feelings hurt. This forum used to be a fun place years ago. Then along came your beloved leader Gordon, among other things commenting that 90 percent of Kauaians are not only Obama supporters but “lethargic, obese and slothful,” and things have been downhill since. Own your hate; deal with it.

Obama said the jobs that went overseas are gone forever and that we should settle for a GDP would be at 2% if we are lucky. Like Jimmy Carter, Obama gave up on America. He had no idea how to recover our economy. I never liked Trump. He is an obnoxious as a human being can be. However, I will put aside all the medias attack on Trumps personality and anyone else’s attack. I like the work of Trump on economic, trade, and foreign affairs. We are getting those lost jobs back and our middle class, union class retirement investments are going through the roof. GDP is over 3 % and Trump did not need a “magic wand” to do it. (as Obama was looking for). Put up with Trump for another 6 years and we will be better off economically, immigration, and world affairs.

GOP has more than enough faults

I’m delighted that Kimo found welcome at the Republican gathering. Everyone deserves a coterie. He lauds the GOP.

He laments being denied services because of his MAGA clothing. The GOP favors denial of services on the basis of immutable traits like sex (ERA opposition), disability (ADA opposition and weakening), race (Civil Rights Act opposition), gender identity ( “religious freedom” bills), national origin (Mexican rapists, Hispanic judges), etc.

It’s the “pro-life” party! Its advocacy for capital punishment, huge military budget, withdrawal from nuclear arms treaties, refusal to join global ban on landmines, Trump’s adulation of despots with bloody hands like Kim Jung Un, Putin, Xi Jinping, and Duterte, refusal to sanction Saudi Arabia for the Khashoggi killing (US citizen and journalist), continued involvement in the Yemen war where death and starvation are rampant, etc., make that an empty moniker.

Next: support for the right to bear arms. Obtaining a gun, even an AR-15, remains easy. Reducing the slaughter (right to life?) of 40,000 Americans annually seems a more pressing issue. Our Supreme Court says gun regulation is permissible: why are attempts to define that anti-Second Amendment?

It “amazes” Kimo that most fellow Jews don’t support the Republicans. I’m a firm believer in Israel’s right to exist. Most people and scholars who want to achieve a lasting Mideast peace decry the US’s recently taking positions designed to enrage the non-Israelis, thereby disqualifying itself as a mediator. Millions there live in poverty and without hope. That offends our Jewish tradition and sensibilities: “Shalom” is our favored greeting.

I’ve written before that the GOP border strategy/immigration hysteria is merely a deflection from looking at the real cause of many of America’s woes – its infatuation with billionaires.

May your days be filled with qloha, Kimo. Glad you found your compatriots. Shalom.
