"Avram went to Church..." 'Obama Da Dog'

Obama Da Dog tells  her favorite joke, which has
many truths to it!  Enjoy...

Avram went into Church, took out his tallis,(prayer shawl) yarmulke, and proceeded to pray. The clergyman entered to start services: "Will all non-Christians
please leave."

Avram continued davening (praying)."

Again the clergyman said, "Will all non-Christians please leave."

And again, Avram prayed.

Finally, the distraught clergyman moved to Avram. "Will ALL JEWS please
leave."

At this, Avram removed his yarmulke, packed up his tallis, then went to the
altar, picked up a statue of Jesus and said, "Come bubbela they don't want
us here anymore."

"Good, Better, Best? Bronze, Silver, Gold..."'Michael A. Herr' (Aloha Friday)

Renowned author Michael Herr is back guest-blogging on this awesome Aloha Friday talking  about how society seems to rank everything under the sun and then some... Make sure and check out Michael's website at; http://www.michaelherr.com/
ALOHA FRIDAY

Good, Better, Best ?Bronze, Silver, Gold ?Aloha folks,

It's a race issue, but wait, keep reading, it's not what you think.
My issue today is a Human Race issue. And my question for the day is, why do we, humans, try to categorize and prioritize and rank everything under the sun? We number things continually . . . 1st planet from the sun, 2nd planet from the sun, etc. We put things into groups . . . dairy products, vegetables, good things for you and bad things for you. And then we break those groups down even further . . . leafy vegetables, tuberous vegetables, root vegetables, and etc. We argue constantly about where to place various things, about which category something belongs in. The tomato, for example. Declared a vegetable by the U.S. Supreme Court in 1883, even while being acknowledged by that same Court as botanically a fruit.

And we rank things continually too. The ten best cars . . . the seven best retirement cities . . . the fifty most-handsome men/women. And in ranking we judge. We put together lists such as the Forbes 500, without regard to whether being on that list, having so much money, is good . . . or not. We admonish our children to get "good" grades in school . . . so they can go on to high levels of education . . . and then? If they get those "good" grades, but do not truly learn, what purpose is served? Did you "cram" for finals? I did. I stuffed my head with knowledge so that I could pass a test . . . and then that knowledge slowly leaked out until all that remained was what truly mattered to me.

Are humans going to change? No. We will continue to put things into categories. We will continue to number the many things in our life. And we will continue to judge.

And I will continue to watch the Olympics; because what it all comes down to there is bronze, silver and gold. Good, better and best. And the Olympics is one of the few venues where I think counting, and ranking are appropriate.

Okay folks, see you next week.

"Equal Rights..?" 'James "Kimo" Rosen'

Equal rights apply to both Men and woman....

There was a recent news  story about a Kaua'i  male attorney being convicted of harassment for allegedly licking a  female clients ear in his office.
This case has me scratching my head, the one on my shoulders that is. I believe this man to be innocent and falsely accused of a crazy misdemeanor. This story went viral and even appeared in the Huffington and Washington Post's. http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2012/07/14/lawrence-mccreery-hawaii-attorney-ear-licking_n_1673116.html

Imagine if you will, the charges  were the other way around and the girl was accused of licking the guys ear?

This would not had even been a case if a guy reported a girl licked  his ear in her office. This  would be a joke amongst law enforcement  if the alleged allocations were reversed.

I know first hand this happens, a few years back a woman in her 70's entered my home uninvited and sexually harassed me.  Luckily Another woman heard the commotion and called the police. The police came and basically laughed at me.  Ha ha bruddah an old lady doing that, OK well go to talk to her, tehe tehe.

Now imagine if I had gone to that woman's house and done the same thing?

" Hi, guys it’s me…" 'Bettejo Dux' (Classic Wednesday)

Guest-blogger Bettejo Dux is one of Kauai's most colorful people, she has lived on the cosmic island of Kaua'i for over 40 years... She is an animal lover, people lover and enjoys life to the fullest. www.bettejodux.com
Hi, guys it’s me…Bettejo!

I finally  did it!  Am I the oldest columnist/blogger on the block or what ?  I hope I can entice some of you to come and pay me a visit me. Some of you know me, or think you do. Some of you love me and what I write and dare to put in writing. Some of you don’t. And that’s okay. Win a few, lose a few that’s what I always say.

What will I write here? Any damn thing I please.  I can write about my mornings and how my jungle house wakes up or goes to sleep. I can write about the animals who live here with me. Who wake up with me, sleep in their beds as I sleep in mine. Aristotle my beloved old red horse who dreams-horses do dream-in the  bedroom next to mine. Brooks, my big black beautiful canine friend. The three cats, Mama and her two daughters, who knock books off my library shelves and know this house is theirs which the rest of us are allowed to enter . Cats are some of my favorite people. My cats-don’t let them hear me say that-are independent souls who live like cats. Real cats. They climb trees, sleep on the roof when the weather is warm, cast shadows on the skylights, look down on the rest of us curious but interesting creatures, one of whom, me, who is honored to feed them, and curl up on the couches and in the chairs when the winds outside are wet and cold.

I can write about the ultimate joy of waking up  in my water bed theater on this precious  slice of paradise I call home. Kauai. The wonder of this gorgeous island is almost beyond description but I will do my best. I can also write how, often, I think insanity lies just outside my gates.

I can be controversial as all get out. I can and will, sometimes, use my poisoned pen and sharpen my tongue on these pages. That’s what one can do when one is pushing 82 years young. I can write about aging. About 'younging.' I can take off on any subject that piques my interest. Tickles my fancy. I can pick up on news articles, letters to the Editor, Forum discussion buddies. Health, books, films, articles that catch my eye. I love all of you. Some of you better than others. I will sometimes mention names, if I chose to, but promise never to call you names; except dearly beloved or dearly beloved monsters and leave it up to you to pick and chose.  I’ll always give you warning. Sweet or sour. Beware ye then, all ye who enter, what I write is not for timid eyes or closed minds. Come back tomorrow.

But today it’s me and I’m off to the races.  Five hundred words or less.  A quick read. A fun read. A read that rankles. Be my guests and jot a comment.

Peace and love Bettejo

Justin Case, Justin Time and Justin Sane..." "James "Kimo" Rosen"

"Please no more political telemarketers,
or I may go Justin Sane..!"
I usually screen all my phone calls, however I was in a good mood and decided to answer. I still do not have caller ID since it saves a  couple bucks a month. I pick up the phone and low and behold it's a political telemarketer for Congressional candidate Ed case.
Now If this person had not called me,Ed Case's chances of my vote would had been greater, however this person calls right at the time I am about to eat, therefore I took control of the conversation.

I told this person in a facetious manner  that  If Ed's parent's had named him Justin, his name would be  Justin case.

I said  to myself  many times  that Justin Case any political telemarketers call  I will do as Jerry Seinfeld did on a classic episode of the sitcom baring his name.

Here is what transpired in my conversation with the telemarketer, I modeled my response very similar to Jerry's.

Telemarketer: Hi, would you be interested in knowing about Ed Case.
Me: Oh, gee, I can't talk right now. Why don't you give me your home number and I'll call you later.
Telemarketer: Uh, I'm sorry  sir we're not allowed to give out our phone numbers.
Me: Oh, I guess you don't want people calling you at home.
Telemarketer: That's correct sir.
Me: Well now you know how I feel.

Please note there is an excellent candidate for what most cities and county's call a district attorney, on Kaua'i they are called Prosecutor's. His name is Justin Kollar, I like to refer to him as 'Justin Time,' Justin Time for truth Justice the American way!

Please Justin, no telemarketers otherwise I may go Justin Sane.

"Taking Advantage of Senior Discounts..!" 'Judith Whitehead' (Inspiration Monday)

"Guest-blogger Judith Whitehead lives in Amherst N.Y. and has worked in the ophthalmology field of medicine for over 30 years..." Judith speaks of the perks of growing old. Bus rides and coffee at fast food restaurants can be added to her list...  ;D) Enjoy...
Recently I have begun to really dive into the senior discount; now that I am in my later 50’s, I feel I deserve a little break since I am an AARP card carrying member. There is no end to the discounts you can gently ask for at places.

I start the morning with my senior coffee at Tim Hortons…yes they give a discount if you ask for it. I stop at kohls for their discount days and to my surprise they also have senior discount days on top of that.

I am doing a bit of travel during the month and am getting my AARP discount at the hotel and also that applies to rental cars.

A snack at Dennys’ will give a senior coffee price along with the meal discount for showing your AARP card. Unfortunately my weekday dinner hang out for a cheap meal, Perkins, closed up in Buffalo so there went my senior discount and bargain for my mid week reward.

Once you hit the 50’s…start asking wherever you go; you may be delightfully surprised. Can’t wait until I turn 65 and fly cheaper on Southwest airlines.

All those aches and pains that creep up in the morning don’t seem so bad with these little treasures offered.

"Puppets..." 'Obama Da Dog'

Obama da Dog says quite a bit about
politics in very little space...! This blog appeared as
an opinion article in the 08-28-12 edition of
the Kauai Garden Island news, titled;
"Election Poetry..."
http://thegardenisland.com/news/opinion/mailbag/letters-to-the-editor-for-tuesday-september/article_7ab8731e-f0fd-11e1-8ae2-0019bb2963f4.html
You see them block sidewalks displaying names of people they barely know.

I call these folks puppets and the politicians are the puppeteers pulling the strings of people they barely know.

If only the puppets knew their strings were being pulled.
