"What is your worth..." ' Obama Da Dog' (Source)

Obama Da Dog, says money can't buy happiness...My master is my happiness and best friend.

A well-known speaker started off his seminar holding up a $20.00 bill. In the room of 200, he asked, "Who would like this $20 bill?" Hands started going up. He said, "I am going to give this $20 to one of you but first, let me do this."

He proceeded to crumple up the $20 dollar bill. He then asked, "Who still wants it...?" Still the hands were up in the air. "Well," he replied, "What if I do this?" And he dropped it on the ground and started to grind it into the floor with his shoe. He picked it up, now crumpled and dirty. "Now, who still wants it?" Still the hands went into the air.

"My friends, we have all learned a very valuable lesson. No matter what I did to the money, you still wanted it because it did not decrease in value. It was still worth $20. Many times in our lives, we are dropped, crumpled, and ground into the dirt by the decisions we make and the circumstances that come our way. We may feel as though we are worthless. But no matter what has happened or what will happen, you will never lose your value.

Dirty or clean, crumpled or finely creased, you are still priceless to those who DO LOVE you. The worth of our lives comes not in what we do or who we know, but by WHO WE ARE.

You are special-Don't EVER forget it." If you do not pass this blog on you may never know the lives it touches, the hurting hearts it speaks to, or the hope that it may bring. Count your blessings, not your problems.

"What Simple Folks Do on Kauai..." 'Bettejo Dux' (Classic Wednesdays)

Bettejo  has lived on Kaua'i over 30 years and is a people lover,
animal lover, lover of life and strikes a dashing yoga pose...
Today Bettejo blogs about  what simple folks do on the  Cosmic Garden Island.
Enjoy...

WHAT SIMPLE FOLKS DO ON KAUAI

“Here’s a toast to health and happiness, let the rest of them drink to money.”

I’ve never had a thing about money. As long as I could pay my bills, lead the life I chose, and stay healthy, I was happy. I had to work at it, it didn’t come free but that was a pleasure, too. Surrounded by books, animals, and a husband I adored, I set out upon life’s journey. I loved to act. So I acted. I loved to write. So I wrote. Money had nothing to with it. As far as a career in acting or writing, I was as close to Hollywood or New York as I ever wanted to be. Happy My novel, The Scam made it to New York, though.
(You can purchase the Scam at; http://www.bettejodux.com/)

My husband said I was perfectly well equipped to live in the 15th century, so I had to find out about that. Turns out it wouldn’t have been a healthy, happy time for me to land in at all. No, not at all. Witch hunts and burnings were the rage. Fun and games. And I discovered the book Malleus maleficarum- the Hammer of Witches- was one of the first books ever printed on the Gutenberg press 1485-86.

“All wickedness,” said the Catholic inquisition authorities, “is but little to the wickedness of women. What else is woman but a foe to friendship, an unescapable punishment, a necessary evil, a natural temptation, a desirable calamity, domestic danger, a delectable detriment, an evil nature, painted with colors…Women are by nature instruments of Satan…”

That certainly doesn’t sound very happy or healthy to me, so I think I’ll just skip it. Hard to do- though-if you’ had been following the Garden Island Forum discussion site.. So many posters-all of them of religious bent or right wing-play the gendercide game. it’s a game they’ve mastered.

In 1980, Ben-Yehuda, wrote about the Malleus, “It was to become the most influential and widely used handbook on witchcraft…its enormous influence was practically guaranteed, owing not only to its authoritative appearance but also to its extremely wide distribution…The moral backing had been provided for a horrible endless march of suffering, torture and human disgrace inflicted on thousands of women.” I think it resurfaced in 2008 when Palin had her exorcism. It’s quite the rage on the Forum discussion site. Toned down, maybe. Not exactly identified but alive and well and that’s not healthy.

Well, I don’t keep it on my shelves and as long as I remember that health and happiness are, quite often, an inner human expression, I can toss the madness out with the holy water.

Still, you must be physically and morally healthy and strong to confront this 21st century madness. Stand on your head. Worship the scented plumeria. Listen to da’birdys sing. Talk a walk on golden sand. Dip your tush in sparkling water. Bask your butt beneath a happy sun. Trust your feet on jungle paths and mountain trails. Screw the bucks and the witch hunts…

That’s what simple folks do. On Kauai.

AIRCRAFT HITS FOUR BUILDINGS

This is tough to see. It just shows the dangers of attending these events.

Amazing photo below shows great detail.

The pilot, flying at low altitude, had no control over his aircraft.

It narrowly misses a crowd gathered for the air show and slams into four buildings occupied by the GOP strategists,NRA honchos ,Taliban big wigs & TSA Gropers.

One can only imagine the horror of the occupants inside those buildings now doubling their output to power their political agendas .

Dats funny!

" Are You James Rosen?" 'James "Kimo" Rosen'

Having the same name as Fox news Journalist James Rosen has had me
on pins and needles...
Are You James Rosen?

The other day I received a phone call asking me if I was James Rosen, I replied ,"yes that's me," the caller yelled traitor from an unknown number on  the caller ID and hung up.

Should I be worried my emails and phone calls  are being monitored by the state department since I have the same name as Fox news journalist James Rosen?  I am paranoid by nature but having the same name as the journalist who is accused of  espionage  has me jumping every-time the telephone rings or there's a knock on my door.

Rosen  made international headlines as  an aider and abettor in violating the Espionage act of 1917 since he spoke with and exchanged emails with Jin Woo Kim for a story on North Korea's nuclear program. Rosen allegedly disclosed national confidential security information in a story that could had jeopardized America's safety.

I freaked out the other day when my Facebook account was temporarily closed?I tried logging onto Facebook and it read,"Your account is currently unavailable due to a site issue. We expect this to be resolved shortly. Please try again in a few minutes."

For a moment, I thought I would never be able to use Facebook again, this is huge since I am a Facebook junkie. Fifteen  minutes later a notice came on and said Facebook had been shutdown for a routine maintenance and everything now worked perfect.

This lesson has taught me to be careful what I post on social media sites especially when I have the same name as one of the most famous journalists in the world.

The Name James Rosen among Jews is the popularity equivalent of having the name John Smith among non-Jews.  Please for now,  just call me Kimo.

"Fathers Day Approaches..." 'Judith Whitehead' (Inspiration Sunday)

Judith Whitehead lives in Amherst New York and has worked in the
ophthalmology field of medicine over 30 years.
Today she talks about remembering dad not only on fathers day
but everyday.  Happy Fathers day!

Fathers Day Approaches

Another Fathers Day is soon upon us; a time to celebrate our dads, husbands, children’s dads and  dad-like men.

Over the years we have celebrated our father in many different ways. When we were young it was always a picnic with the family or a nice dinner somewhere and as our dad grew older we began to think of different ways to honor him.  This year will be a little different for our celebration as our dad is more confined this year and we will be bringing Fathers Day to him.

QUICKLY  approaching his mid nineties   he is no longer as mobile as he once was  with  his mobility much more limited than ever before.  He is still our special dad and we will all be joining him with a dinner and celebration of his many years as our dad.

It becomes more than difficult to see our parents age and live a more confined lifestyle.  Their  quality of life changes drastically  in many cases and they spend many days in their super senior years morphing one day to the next. How I wish I could turn back the clock to once again watch my dad in his more glorious days golfing and traveling and enjoying his life to the fullest.

Now so much more frail as age has taken its toll on him as it does for many others in their 90’s; still able to muster up a smile now and then  enjoying simple pleasures as the daily newspaper or a magazine.

All the fathers days in the past surrounded by gifts of ties or shirts or things that we thought he may enjoy are meaningless now;  the best gift that now fits this occasion is good company and an enjoyable meal  with the family gathered around at the table swapping our stories or remember when…..

There are few things that people need in their 90’s; they have seen and had it all and although at the time seemed important to them,  seem insignificant at this time of life when just “being”  is enough.

Take some time this Fathers day to enjoy the day remembering the good times and reminiscing about the past.  Memories can be comforting at times and can be a relief from the present which is not always  the best of situations.  Let  him  know how much you care about your dad while he is still on this earth; don’t wait for another occasion because it may never come.

A Divine Memory On Memorial Day, A True Story

This past Monday, Memorial Day, I walked to the bus shelter in front of the Kapa'a Neighborhood Center to hitch up north to Kilauea. It was after 6 PM, the sun setting fast in the west. An old man was seated at the bus shelter, apparently waiting for the bus. I recognized him as a man I rode with on the bus many months earlier. His name was Gordon, and he served in the US Marine Corps in World War Two.

As I approached the shelter, I asked Gordon if he was waiting for the bus north. He said he was. I broke the news to him the last bus had already left. Being a holiday, Memorial Day, the last northbound bus left Kapaa at 5:07 PM.

I said to him the only thing we can do is to hitch. I was going to Kilauea, and Gordon was going as far as Princeville. I started hitching, and he stood by my side. Us two guys, me 52 and he 80-something, waited one and a half hours for a ride. At least a couple of hundred cars must have passed us. Night fell, and the street lights came on. We were getting tired.

Finally, a pick up truck stopped and the younger man driving asked me where I was headed. By this time Gordon had sat down, and was just out of the light from the street light so the driver could see only me.

I told him I was headed to Kilauea, but that my friend over there was going all the way to Princeville, and there was no way I was going to leave him by himself waiting in the night here in Kapa'a. I added that he is a veteran, and this is HIS day, Memorial Day.

The young man said he was not planning on going as far as Princeville, but for a veteran on Memorial Day, he would drive him anywhere he needed to go!

We strapped Gordon in the passenger seat, and I got situated in the back. The driver said he needed to make a brief stop to pick up some tools for his job tomorrow, and we would then continue on our way.

When we stopped in Anahola for the tools, we briefly talked story. I said that Gordon served our country during World War Two in the First Division of the US Marines in the Pacific. I added that my father also served in the US Marines in the Pacific during that war, but in the Third Division.

And the driver? Surprise, surprise, his father was a US Marine, and like my father, served in the Third Division, but in Vietnam many years later.

You see, US Marines have this tradition and duty of never leaving people behind the enemy lines, and apparently, lots of other places too.

We have a lot to be thankful for to all of our service men and women, including the US Marines. Service and duty and honor are not just things for war, but for life.

Those of us who hitch hike from time to time on Kaua'i have a saying that when you wait a long time for a ride, the one that comes eventually is a REALLY good one. This past Monday did not disappoint.

"Retirement and things to do..." 'Chester "Unc" Lau' (Source)

There are many ways to have fun in retirement....

Retirement and things to do

Working people frequently ask retired people what they
do to make their days interesting.

Well, for example, the other day, Kate, my wife and I
went into town and visited a shop.

When we came out, there was a cop writing out a parking
ticket on car with a "vote Mitt Romney"bumper sticker .

We went up to him and I said, 'Come on, man, how about giving a
senior citizen a break?'

He ignored us and continued writing the ticket.

I called him an "asshole".

He glared at me and started writing another ticket
for having worn-out tires.

So Kate called him a "shit head".

He finished the second ticket and put it on the windshield with the first.

Then he started writing more tickets.

This went on for about 20 minutes.

The more we abused him, the more tickets he wrote.

Just then our bus arrived, and we got
on it and went home!

We always look for cars with "Mitt Romney
2012" stickers!

We try to have a little fun each day
now that we're retired............

It's important at our age!
