                                         Eat Right

Now the meanest Editor is telling us what to eat. Spam? EEEKKK.
reference;http://dakinetalk.blogspot.com/2012/10/mayonnaisespam-rice-and-shoyu-james.html

This morning he had a picture of the ugliest  food I ever saw. He's a good photographer but he  doesn't know how to make a plate of food photogenic. I'll bet even his dog  wouldn't lick that dish.

I'm coming from many long years of Adelle Davis.  Lets Get Well. Let's Cook it Right. Linus Pauling's Vitamin C and the Common Cold.  Dr.Roger Williams Nutrition Against Disease. I have dozens of  books about the importance of nutrition. If anyone wants I can give you a list and you can order them-used-from Talk Story Book Store.

The two first authors, Adelle Davis and Linus Pauling-one of the brightest minds on earth- were vilified. Obviously because the medical profession was scared to death if people learned they could stay well and heal themselves, the bucks in their pockets would diminish. No  money in good health.  Plenty money in drugs and knives, hospital stays and office visits.

The pharmaceutical houses own the medical schools and, today  not one orthodox doctor- I know of , anyway- has a clue about nutrition. They've got a pill for every illness known to man and some ills for diseases they haven't  invented. And every one of those  pills has a side effect for which they can prescribe another pill. Soon your medicine cabinet looks like the local pharmacy on steroids and, worse, your natural immune system is as screwed up as the minds who prescribed them.

But, hey, doctors are  great for setting broken bones. Committing heart surgery, too, if you've got the big bucks. They practice such procedures on the poor.  An aspiring heart surgeon  needs a heart to practice on so he can eventually sell his skill to the rich.

Don't envy them. Someone said,"When my doctor tells me I need a new heart, do I really need one, or does he need a new spinnake ?"

We've come a long long way from my editor's icky  recipe-and Spam-and I have a lot of nerve talking since I'm just learning how to cook and couldn't take a picture of strawberry shortcake that would be a visual delight.

Never the less, I would love to share some of the nutritious, delicious things I've learned to high-tech cook. I'm also going to suggest you  go out and buy a Vitamix-and I'm not a Mormon-and learn to make soup. As a liquid, it's easy to digest and whatever nutrition is in the stuff you toss in that machine gets in your blood stream pronto with little energy expended.

Bake a potato in your microwave. Cut in half  and toss it in the machine. Saute in olive oil a clove of garlic, half a small onion, some sliced yellow squash, a carrot or two and anything else handy-create and improvise- toss them in, too. Salt, pepper, herbs, a dash of Worcestershire helps. Think color. Think taste. Then splash a couple cups of water,  use  bouillon and the magic ingredients: generous spoonfuls  of Brewer's Yeast and what germ.

Turn machine on as directed, it'll heat up.  Drink.  Enjoy.

Hell, you could even toss in a little Spam.

"The Meanest Editor..." 'Bettejo Dux' (Classic Wednesday)

Bettejo Dux  one of Kauai's true gems, Today she
guest-blogs about her editor, can you guess who she is talking about? ;D)  Enjoy!

The Meanest Editor

He always says, “You talk too much and you never listen.”

I wish I had a mike when his chin begins to wobble

He’s always telling me what to write.  He’s interfering with my creative process. After we have a chat on the phone, he has to take a nap and I have to have a glass of wine. The only reason we get alone is ’cause I love his blog, I belong there. And I dearly love his dog-who I will adopt and bring home to live with me and Boots and Ari and Duke and the cats when he gets run over by a cane truck.

The last kerfuffle took place after I told him I shared a matzoh cracker with cream cheese with Monroe and Esther. They made me an honorary Jewess for the day. Well, that’s better than getting my ass dunked in the Mormon baby boiler or a freezing lake or river in a stupid backwoods berg in Tennessee.

“Matzo is an unleavened bread us Jews eat during passover. It’s bread that doesn’t rise. I want you to write a column about Viagra and Matzo balls.”

“What?”

“Just do it and have it on my desk before deadline tomorrow.”

“Or…”

“…or you’re fired.”

“Yeah? Well I quit.”

“You can’t.”

“Why not?’

“”cause I said so.”

What do you do with a mind like that? I don’t know anything about Viagra. I started talking and he started talking over me and we slammed the phone in each other’s ear after about ten minutes. He fell asleep with the phone up his nose at his desk. Served him right. I had a cold glass of Chardonnay with crackers and cheese for brunch. Boots shared. I made some special unleavened crackers in my electric oven. A speciality of the house which I discovered serendipitously while making a delicious frittata. Some of the batter spilled into the bottom of the pan and- lo and behold- when the frittata was done some darling perfectly round brown and crisp little  crackers were born. They smelled good in the baking. You eat them like macadamia nuts, with dainty fingers, one at a time.

I’ll share the recipe. Beat the hell out of two eggs dashed with salt and pepper and nutmeg and oregano and some Parmesan cheese. Drop by the  teaspoonful in the bottom of the pan. Bake for 20 to 25 minutes at 250 degrees. Or something like that. Experiment . Boots and I love them.  I don’t know if they qualify as certified matzos. Mine never taste the same twice.

But I digress.

Uh, I didn’t add any Viagra. I don’t know, maybe you could do that. It might liven up a dull party. Make sure you have clean sheets on the bed. My mother taught me, “When your boy friend comes calling make sure the sheets are clean.”

My mother was a very liberal feminist. I always took her advice.

Dear Editor, let me know if this qualifies.

Editors! Can’t live with ‘em. Can’t shoot’em.

"Drug And Alcohol Free..." 'Obama Da Dog"

Obama Da Dog hopes everyone had a great Passover! ;D)

It's all in the words. When I see a concert advertised as drug and alcohol free, I think wow, free alcohol and drugs, how do they get away with that.

There is an old expression and one of my favorites, "Only the guilty speak."  When the first kid to say I didn't throw that spitball is  usually the one who did it.  In the same essence alcohol and drug free means exactly that.  Why even mention it and get people thinking about drugs or alcohol?  You don't advertise going to  church, or going to the shopping mall as alcohol and drug free because it's a given, it's obvious.

Sometimes your better off just saying nothing. Did I mention this blog is alcohol and drug free...

"The Jewish Tie Salesman & Kim Jung Un...2 for 1-Monday Blog 'Chester "Unc" Lau' (Source)

Dakinetalks favorite Uncle (Chester Lau)
is back talking about a Jewish Tie salesman. Dis funny! and on another note
Unc talks politics (Kim Jung Un) in this 2 for one special Monday edition.
"Unc" is a retired cinematographer currently living
on the Hawai'ian Island of Oahu.

The Jewish Tie Salesman

A fleeing Taliban terrorist, desperate for water, was plodding through the Afghan desert when he saw something far off in the distance.

Hoping to find water, he hurried toward the mirage, only to find a very frail little old Jewish man standing at a small makeshift display rack - selling ties.

The Taliban terrorist asked, "Do you have water?"

The Jewish man replied, "I have no water. Would you like to buy a tie? They are only $5."

The Taliban shouted hysterically, "Idiot Infidel ! I do not need such an over-priced western adornment - I spit on your ties. I need water "

"Sorry, I have none - just ties - pure silk - and only $5."

"Pahh ! A curse on your ties, I should wrap one around your scrawny little neck and choke the life out of you but... I must conserve my energy and find water !"

"Okay," said the little old Jewish man, It does not matter that you do not want to buy a tie from me or that you hate me, threaten my life and call me infidel. I will show you that I am bigger than any of that. If you continue over that hill to the east for about two miles, you will find a restaurant. It has the finest food and all the ice-cold water you need... Go In Peace."

Cursing him again, the desperate Taliban staggered away over the hill.

Several hours later he crawled back, almost dead and gasped...
"They won't let me in without a tie !

Hana Hou, (Encore) 2 for 1 Monday blog, Mahalo "Unc"

Kim Jung Un the puppet  in the North Korean Military /Industrial complex who is asking for B2 or Drone attacks.

Kim Jung Un had NO military experience
whatsoever before Daddy made him a
four-star general. This snot-nosed twerp had
never accomplished anything in his life that would
even come close to military leadership.
He hadn't even so much as led a Cub Scout troop,
coached a sports team, or commanded a military platoon.
So he is made the "Beloved Leader" Of North Korea .

Terrific!-
-

I'm sorry.
I just remembered that we did the same thing.
We took an arrogant spoiled brat, who had never commanded a squad in uniform, and made him Commander-in-Chief. A guy, who had never had a real job, worked on a budget but can start two endless wars to kill or wounded thousanda of our beloved military !!! and we made him our "Beloved Leader" of the United States
TWICE !!!
I'm sorry I brought this up.

" What season is it..?" 'Judith Whitehead' (Inspiration Sunday)

"Guest-blogger Judith Whitehead lives in Amherst N.Y.
and has worked in the ophthalmology field of medicine for over 30 years..."
Today she talks about  how these times are a changing in climate change...Enjoy!

What season is it??

If you live in Buffalo, there is no way of telling what the season is or even the month; yesterday we had all seasons on the same day…snow flurries in the morning, sunshine in the afternoon and temperatures in the teens last night.

I will remind you I am writing this article at the end of  March which is supposed to be Spring now.  I bought a new pair of sneakers in anticipation of Spring weather but refuse to wear them in the snow!  There is no predicting the weather any longer around here…what has our atmosphere become?  I think one day we will reverse our weather and no longer have a winter season. This year we donated our snow plowing  fee to our neighbor since he came only 14 times all season for a paltry 350.00… I know its insurance but it’s a hard pill to swallow.  Happy Spring!!

Special Hana Hou (Encore) for all our Jewish friends....

With Passover soon upon them, the Jewish community in Madrid found themselves in a desperate situation. There was an acute shortage of horseradish. You probably know that horseradish is the key ingredient of that fiery condiment for gefilte fish that is known as chrain.

A hue and cry arose and the entire community was mobilized in an effort to prevent this shonda (shame, tragedy).

All the European Union countries gave the same reply, "Sorry, we have none to send.

In desperation, the Rabbi phoned one of his Yeshiva friends in Tel Aviv and begged him to send a crate of horseradish by air freight.

Two days before Passover, a crate of grade Aleph, tear-jerking, Israeli horseradish was loaded at Ben Gurion Airport onto EL Al flight 789 to Madrid, and all seemed to be well.

Unfortunately, when the Rabbi went to the Madrid airport to claim the horseradish, he was informed that a wildcat strike had just broken out and no shipments would be unloaded for at least four days.

As a result, The chrain in Spain stayed mainly on the plane. (sorry)

April showers, Passover and Easter are upon us.‏.." 'Obama Da Dog'

Happy Passover, Happy Easter, Happy Spring break

!

Spring break along with April showers, Passover and Easter are upon us.

My people the Jewish People eat matzo (unleavened bread) and have elaborate gourmet meals to remember the days of slavery by abstaining from bread.

The Christians celebrate Easter with painted eggs and bunnies to celebrate the resurrection of their Lord.

College kids celebrate spring break with wild and crazy behavior.

I partake in all of the above eating  Matzah and colored eggs along with wild and crazy behavior.  I guess I have it all.

Happy Passover, Happy Easters and Happy April Showers!

"Win, Lose or Draw, Godbehere Achieves His 15 Minutes..." 'James "Kimo" Rosen'

Richard Godbehere Jr. picture bottom left  at the second annual "Bring Your own Whine"
Luncheon.  Win lose or draw, Godbehere achieves  his 15 minutes of fame....

Aloha, check out my opinion article in the (04-09-13) edition of the Kaua'i Garden Island News,"Godbehere's 15 minutes."
http://thegardenisland.com/news/opinion/mailbag/letters-for-tuesday-april/article_cd1fb15a-a0dc-11e2-8955-001a4bcf887a.html

This is what started this whole witch hunt;
http://www.kitv.com/news/hawaii/Kauai-man-arrested-after-police-see-drinking-driving-video/-/8905354/19398302/-/weys17/-/index.html

Douglas Henry replied to my recent  opinion articlehttp://thegardenisland.com/news/opinion/mailbag/letters-for-monday-march/article_3239afdc-9516-11e2-a3f0-0019bb2963f4.html about Mr. Richard Godbehere  Jr. getting arrested for posting a video of himself drinking and driving http://thegardenisland.com/news/opinion/mailbag/letters-for-tuesday-march/article_739e241a-95bd-11e2-bf34-0019bb2963f4.html  Please let me respond;

Yes Mr. Henry, I agree,  drunk driving is a serious offense, I feel it's despicable. Nobody ever said Godbehere was drunk, his offense is an open container violation not drunken driving. Even if a man of Godbehere's size had one beer he surely wouldn't be drunk.

How can a court of law prove beyond a reasonable doubt  it's not cream-soda or any other of the thousands of soft-drinks on the market? Granted , it was in a beer bottle but how can you prove Godbehere did not empty the beer bottle and fill it with something else for the video? You can't and that's my point. My point is from a legal perspective, not a humanistic perspective.

This story and video have gone viral with social media, print media and television newscasts around the world.  If Godbehere is convicted which is highly unlikely, I believe  this case will go down in history just like Roe-v-Wade and be taught in law school s around the country.

Win, lose or draw Godbehere achieved his fifteen minutes of fame and preserved rock-star stature in cyber space and social media.
