 The Lion and the Gorilla

One day an out of work mime is visiting the zoo and attempts to earn some money as a street performer.  However, as soon as he starts to draw a crowd, the zookeeper grabs him and drags him into his office.

The zookeeper explains to the mime that the zoo's most popular attraction, a gorilla, has suddenly died. The keeper fears that attendance at the zoo will fall off. He offers the mime a job to dress up as the gorilla until they can get another one. The mime accepts.

The next morning, before the crowd arrives, the mime puts on the gorilla suit and enters the cage. He discovers that it's a great job. He can sleep all he wants, play and make fun of people and he draws bigger crowds than he ever did as a mime.

However, eventually the crowds tire of him and he gets bored just swinging on tires. He begins to notice that the people are paying more attention to the lion in the cage next to his.

Not wanting to lose the attention of his audience, he climbs to the top of his cage, crawls across a partition, and dangles from the top to the lion's cage. Of course, this makes the lion furious, but the crowd loves it.

At the end of the day the zookeeper comes and gives the mime a raise for being such a good attraction as a gorilla.

Well, this goes on for some time. The mime keeps taunting the lion, the crowds grow larger, and his salary keeps going up. Then one terrible day when he is dangling over the furious lion, he slips and falls. The mime is terrified. The lion gathers itself and prepares to pounce. The mime is so scared that he begins to run round and round the cage with the lion close behind.

Finally, the mime starts screaming and yelling, "Help! Help meee!!!", but the lion is quick and pounces. The mime soon finds himself flat on his back looking up at the angry lion. The lion slowly lowers his snarling mouth towards him and says: "Shut UP you idiot ! Do you want to get us BOTH fired?"

"Ms Pink Orpington..." 'Bettejo Dux' (Vintage Bettejo)

Bettejo Dux has lived on the cosmic Garden
Island of Kaua'i for over 40 years.
Bettejo is a regular opinion writer in the Garden Island news
and is the author of the famed novella, "The Scam."
 Her latest fiction"Children of extinction"
is now  released and available on Amazon!
Bettejo has a gift of mingling
the present, the past, and the future.
Ms Pink Orpington

I don't suffer fool lightly. I'm outspoken. I speak my mind.

I'm President of our local exclusive--select, picky, proud-- Women's Club. We do golf and an occasional Fashion Show. I'm in charge of selecting models.  Do not approve of anorexics. We're full-blown women. In our prime and proud of it.

I'm the wealthiest woman in my Bible Study class. I can write a check for  four figures. I'm a member of our local Tea Party group and volunteer to do all the paper work and keep files on local events and personalities. This town's riddled with locals, liberals,  progressives, atheists and left-wing radicals. Dreadful. Well,  I can produce when need be. It's dirty work, but someone has to do it. I also vet books allowed in the local library.  Dare  mention Steinbeck, that horrid Hemingway, Tony Morrison!! I dare you...

I shop at a local Macy's--they know me there--but purchase fashionable attire at Neiman's.   I'm proud to be known as narcissistic. I never wear the same outfit twice. Sometimes, when I travel, I take the pick of the lot with me. I can, and do, wear things I wear here at some fine hotel in distant cities.  I sell most things, for a fine price--believe me-- at a local Second Hand. Giggle inwardly and point-- surreptitiously--at they who dare buy my discards here and show  them off in public. My friends and I enjoy this small  whimsy. I live alone. I'm a widow. And the master bedroom in my three bedroom high-rise-- on the top floor, what a view-- is my wardrobe.  I read about the lady in Texas with the three-story wardrobe and did so envy her. She did it for charity, of course--people pay to visit and envy and covet--and serves champagne.  She  has a champagne floor. We are truly kindred souls. One of a kind. Sisters under the skin.  I think of doing the same here on a smaller scale, of course. I think she would approve. I think I'll write a perfumed note and tell her of my great admiration.

I keep two pets. hairless cats--Warm and Fuzzy--they keep me company. Registered Sphynx, they're beautiful, awkward, and rare. The only ones in the entire town. I disdain common cats. Mine are pink and long-eared and they play on the terrace. Pink is my favorite color. Thus my nickname.

I admit I shop at the local big box. I buy in bulk. My cats and I could survive for three months without leaving our residence. In case of a disaster I keep a pantry. That's what I do with my second bedroom. It, like my closet, is well stocked and orderly.

This morning, as I sauntered down the aisles, I discovered, to my dismay, the idiots in charge were out of cat food. I hailed a workman, "Where is the cat food?" I demanded.

"It's over by the beer."

"By the beer? is that to imply cat lovers drink beer? We drink Dom." Guess I told him off.

"A riddle about the barking dog ordinance..." James "Kimo" Rosen' (For Kaua'i people)

James "Kimo"Rosen is a retired Professional
 Photographer living on theGarden island
of Kaua'i with his best friend Obama Da Dog.

A riddle about the barking dog ordinance

This blog is about a barking dog ordinance on Kaua'i that has been in effect since February 2014. This is an interesting subject matter even if you don't live on Kaua'i.

What's worse than appealing the barking dog ordinance?

A barking county council.

The  county council only voted on this bill in February of 2014 and it has only been in effect for about 18 months. There was over- whelming testimony that many neighborhoods are quieter with just the threat of a law, therefore it's working.

The division amongst council members is apparent . I  watched on Government access TV the entire meeting on appealing the law  and have come to the conclusion this is not about barking dogs, it's about division and lack of aloha between our own elected officials.

I know many of the council members and on a personal basis like them all, however when ego gets in the way and our representatives no longer respect the majority view of the people  it is time to make changes come elections in 2016.

The icing on the cake there is actually a motion to abolish term limits, can you just imagine having to live with this same rhetoric forever?

There is still time for this bill to  stay in place. The Mayor can veto it! Please write, call or email Mayor Carvalho to veto bill  #2590 AKA "The barking dog ordinance."  The Mayor's email is bcarvalho@kauai.gov.

"If you don't know Jack, now's the time..!" 'James "Kimo" Rosen' (Kimo's world #83)

Kimo's World #83
Kaua'i island welcomes fast food giant-
 ~Jack in the Box

If you don't know Jack, now's the time!

Hawaii is the most isolated population center on the face of the earth. Hawaii is 2,390 miles from California; 3,850 miles from Japan; 4,900 miles from China; and 5,280 miles from the Philippines.

Where I live on the island of Kauai is  like living on an isolated rock in the middle of the Pacific.

Kauai is also known for a large number of anti's and environmental hippies that like to  protest and are opposed to everything and anything that the masses seem to enjoy. Therefore when a new fast food  franchise arrives on the cosmic island of Kauai you would think it would be met with hoards of protesters---that like to protest everything from Walmart super centers to GMO's. No protests or demonstrations, just a huge welcome filled with aloha.
A full dining room opening day
at Lihu'e Jack in the Box

Monday July 27th was the grand opening of the first ever  Jack in the Box on Kauai. You would think the Pope or President Obama was in town. Lines so deep you needed a restroom break before ordering. A dining room so crowded that I was told by one fast food junkie that they waited three and one half hours for their lunch.
The drive through is backed
 up and zigg zagged
 around Jack in the box
 opening day in Lihu'e,

The drive-through was another story, the line zig-zagged with vehicles, engines on and AC blasting on this hot, humid record breaking  July day.  If Jack's motto of, "We don’t make it until you order it" is true, the  wait would had been staggering.

Jack in the Box are geniuses in marketing, the food is anything but gourmet or healthy, yet the lines were staggering in numbers. Not only on opening day but still over one week later you would think they were giving away free gold bullion bars.
There are some fast food franchises that may have better food, however they don't know 'Jack' about marketing.

So, if you don't know Jack, now's your opportunity...

E komo mai (Welcome) Jack.

"Gifts from patients..." 'Judith Whitehead' (Inspiration Sunday) ---Judy-Judy-Judy---

Judith Whitehead lives in Amherst New York
( A suburb of Buffalo, N.Y.)
and has worked in the ophthalmology
field of medicine for over 30 years

Gifts from patients

Having  worked in the medical field for the last 35 years I have had many memorable experiences.  I was reflecting on some of the gifts the patients have given me over the years.  Today I got my first giant cucumber from a patients garden, can't wait to try it with dinner.

Many patients have hobbies...during the holidays they make knitted decorative items, needlework pins to wear, coasters for drinks,  many make home made baked goods.

It's their way of taking the time to give us an extra thank you; many have serious health issues that bring them to the doctors offices often and we become an extension of their families,  we see them so much.

Some items I save, others I pass on...it's hard to keep everything but of course the food disappears the quickest.  Then there are a group of patients that bring coffee and treats when they come in; we love that.

Many times sales reps bring candy and food which is most appreciated.

Tonight I am making a salad with those great looking
cucumbers.

Bon Appétit!

Judy, Judy, Judy!  ;-)

"Trumped by "The Donald" 'Obama Da Dog' (Special political edition)

Obama Da Dog is a life long resident of Hawaii.
James "Kimo" Rosen actually penned this blog, however if there

Trumped by "The Donald"

I remained entertained with Donald Trump and the  numerous other GOP candidates trying to make a run for 2016 Presidential election. The nation wants to be trumped, by "The DONALD" I know many closet Trump supporters, people who love Trump but are afraid to admit it publicly to friends and associates.

Trump is not a career politician, he's not afraid to speak his mind and does not need to kiss the Kock brother's okole  for campaign contributions and financing since he's a billionaire.

I want to be entertained the next four years, and who better to make time go faster than the entertaining Trump.
he really couldn't be any worse than any other politician?

America may just  deserve Donald Trump, and Donald Trump may just deserve America.

Who knows, always expect the  unexpected.

NOW, Rosie O'Donnell has responded.

11 husbands

A lawyer married a woman who had previously divorced 11 husbands.

On their wedding night, she told her new husband, "Please be gentle, I'm still a virgin."

"What??" said the puzzled groom. "How can that be if you've been married 11 times?"

"Well, Husband #1  was a sales representative: he kept telling me how great it was going to be.

Husband #2 was in software services: he was never really sure how it was supposed to function, but he said he'd look into it and get back to me.

Husband #3 was from field services: he said everything checked out diagnostically but he just couldn't get the system up.

Husband #4 was in telemarketing: even though he knew he had the order, he didn't know when he would be able to deliver.

Husband #5 was an engineer: he understood the basic process but wanted three years to research, implement, and design a new state-of-the-art method.

Husband #6 was from finance and administration: he thought he knew how, but he wasn't sure whether it was his job or not.

Husband #7 was in marketing: although he had a nice product, he was never sure how to position it.

Husband #8 was a psychologist: all he ever did was talk about it.

Husband #9 was a gynecologist: all he did was look at it.

Husband #10 was a stamp collector: all he ever did was lick his stamps ... God ! I miss him !

Husband #11 was a computer junkie :all he did was sit in front of the computer & blog on facebook.... :-(

"But now that I've married you, I'm really excited!"

"Good," said the new husband, "but, why? "

"Oh, you're a lawyer. This time I know I'm gonna get screwed !"
