My blog is only a hobby blog and on any given day I may receive 100-200 hits. When I blog about the Donald I receive 500 plus hits. This is extremely good for a  blog run as a hobby.


Definition of Trump!

I have found the catch word not even a phrase to get readers attention, comments and hits online is; 'Trump' in writing an article for the paper or personal blog.

Therefore this article (blog) will deal with that word 'TRUMP!'

  A Google definition definition of Trump;

1-  a card of a suit any of whose cards will win over a card that is not of this suit —called also trump card
2- the suit whose cards are trumps for a particular hand —often used in plural

3- a decisive overriding factor or final resource —called also trump card

4- a dependable and exemplary person

Merriam Webster defines the verb Trump up as; The intent to deceive.  (um?)

The Urban Dictionary;
1. To have superior power over. 
2. To surpass or outdo. 
3. When a person says "trump," you are required to do whatever you just claimed you would do, no matter how exaggerated it was. If you don't do it, you get a spartan kick to the chest.

Although this article had nothing to do with you know who, I hope I got your attention!

As The Jewish New Year quickly approaches we begin to think about what we are grateful for and what we would like to be forgiven for.

The Jewish New Year, Rosh Hashanah begins Sunday
evening October 2, 2016 at sundown. The year is 5777!

We ask ourselves, were we good people this year. Did we do unto others as we would have wanted them to do to us? As we reflect on the past year we thank G-d for all that we have been blessed with; good health, family and friends to name a few.

 Our family, along with many of you, have lost loved ones, have had close calls with challenging health issues and have managed to persevere. 

As our holiday tables loose and gain people as we age, it becomes filled with more friends than family as our families shrink in size – we now, more than ever, cherish the close family and friends that we hold dear to our hearts and begin the new year with thankfulness and hope for a successful, happy and health new year. 

Friends are the “Family” we choose, and we hold dear to us the memories we have made together. We know not what the future has in store for us. It does seem easier to face our futures with the friendships and family we have in our lives.

 So until next year....we are wishing everyone a happy, healthy and prosperous New Year filled with memories to cherish and good health to enjoy. 

 An expression Jews say to one one this time of year, L'shanah Tovah, may you be entered into the book of life! Meaning, hope you make through another one!

Wailua falls and no Aloha

I Can't believe nobody cared enough to say; thank God your OK!

I was blown away by the utter lack of human compassion and care for a man who nearly lost his life jumping off Wailua falls.

The  excellent article written by Garden Island editor-n-chief, Bill Buley demonstrated to me a total lack of empathy and compassion by the majority of people who commented on the Garden Island's Facebook page concerning this  article titled " This is crazy."

Every comment was either racist or about how stupid the man  was and how he should be arrested and live in a mental institution. I am enclosing a sampling of some of the comments.

"It's funny how us locals/ Hawaiians get kicked out of places like this. but how come these hāoles can just go into fenced places and do stupid actions and not get in trouble...".

"This guy is an idiot.He should be fined for the rescue team . Do Kauai a favor , Never return."

 "If he tries again, he should make sure there are no other visitors there. That would be a 'real' experience for him. Then his 'friend' could scramble down the hillside to assist. If he dies, he dies. Sounds like he's ready. Smh"

"This guy needs mental help. He plans on doing it again? What an idiot. He not only put himself at risk, but also anyone below."

 "There is no cure for stupid."

I was going to comment with a positive comment however I did not want my inbox bombarded with negativity---since once you comment on Facebook  every comment thereafter will not only post on Facebook but go to your email  inbox.

 Imagine if Mr.Shahan (the man who jumped off Wailua falls) had been injured, paralyzed or died? would people still be commenting in the same manner?

Here's the comment I wanted to post; 

Thank God your OK young man. We all make and do crazy things when we are young. I am  thankful you survived and lived to tell your story.  Please count your blessings because there may not be a next time.  Please don't try this off Niagara falls!

I would like to say Aloha Nui Loa and God bless to Mr. Shiloh Shahan.

Dr. Doctor give me some news

Norma 'Doctor" Sparks has my endorsement as a county council member. She came in 11th place in the August primary with 3,456 votes and to be a winner must finish in the  top 7 and gather approximately 3,000 more votes give or take to be a winner in  the general election come November., To do this will take a great under taking-- however can be accomplished!

Dr. Doctor  is more marketable
than Norma Doctor Sparks...

Here's how!
Politics like acting is in many situations name recognition. Many in Hollywood and the music business change their names to gather fame and fortune. Bob Dylan was once Robert Zimmerman. Marilyn Monroe was once an unknown by the name of Norma Jeane Mortenson. Without a name with pizzazz their careers may have never been what they were?

Here on Kauai Japanese and Philippine influence helps. There is a prime example of one career politician who still uses her maiden name for name recognition. Believe me, it doesn't hurt. 

Norman 'Doctor' Sparks to win in the upcoming general election needs to change back to her maiden name of 'Doctor' and go by her credited and earned 'PhD' title of 'Dr.' 
Hence calling herself Dr. Doctor. 

For marketing purposes alone and name recognition who wouldn't vote for Dr. Doctor? Even though Norma Sparks is beyond qualified--- Dr. Doctor is a marketable name and marketable names sell, whether in Hollywood, the music industry or Cosmic Kauai!

"Our Labor Day Weekend..." 'Judith Whitehead' (Inspiration Friday)

Our Labor Day Weekend

One of the nice advantages of living in a smaller town like  Clarence are the nice local fund raisers that are done.

Soups on!   Such a deal!
20 bucks a gallon for Manhattan
clam chowder,
including the bucket ..
.and so full of ingredients it's more
like a stew.

Labor Day is the annual Clarence Town Fireman's Chowder sale.  Literally gallons and gallons of the chowder is made for a fundraiser with ingredients such as chicken, vegetables, meat and other assorted items which makes for a thick pourage-like soup .  

Locals line up for blocks to buy a gallon, bowl or taste.  For $20.00  a gallon, pail provided, its a steal.  We freeze some for the winter and enjoy it right away as well.

A parade follows with an amusement park set up for the kids: perfect weather along with a perfect way to wind up the official summer time.

"Natural disaster preparedness..." 'Glenn Mickens' (County Watchdog)

Glenn Mickens has lived on Kauai  with his wife Ruth for the last 26 years. Born July 26, 1930 in Wilmar, California, USA) was a pitcher in Major League Baseball. He pitched in four games (two of which were starts) for the 1953 Brooklyn Dodgers. He also played for five years in Japan, from 1959 until 1963 for the Kintetsu Buffaloes. There, he compiled a record of 45–53 with a 2.54 ERA.  Glenn also  served in the Army for 2 years and coached baseball at UCLA for 25 years. 
Last but not least Glenn would really like to see Kaua'i give the county manager style of Government a chance.

Natural disaster preparedness

We hear over and over how well prepared Kauai is in case of a Tsunami, Hurricane or any other natural disaster.

With all due respect to Civil Defense and the people who run it, I beg to differ with this assumption. 

We basically have one highway that runs around our island and when there is a disruption in this road--traffic accident, fires that cause smoke across the road, or a washout like the Koloko Dam break caused a few years ago, transpiration stops.

Even without a disaster, traffic on our roads gets worse and worse and with more population, more vehicles AND more signals the problem can only be exacerbated. 

About 14 years ago, thanks to Senator Lehua Fernandes Salling and director of Transportation Steve Kyono the Kapa'a By-pass road was built. Since it was an existing cane haul road no EA or EIS was necessary and it was started and finished in 8 months and it has been a success!

We have these same cane haul roads all over our island that were thoughtfully put there to allow the sugar cane trucks to operate without slowing down for signals or other vehicles on our main highway. This idea and action was truly one of pro activity and is badly needed on our island today. check out the cane Roads on Kauai below-

Thus my point is that before we are "prepared" for any type of disaster we desperately need to make use of these cane haul roads. And not only for disaster preparedness but to address the traffic problems that we have been ignoring for way too long. 

This ignored problem may not be a Civil Defense issue only but for the safety and welfare of our citizens it should certainly be at the top of their and the administrations and councils list.

Hillary should not receive political protection

One aspect of the 2016 Presidential election that is of grave concern to me as a retired lawyer is the differential in the treatment of the conduct of Hilary Clinton as a prominent governmental figure and candidate of a major political party for president and how she would have been treated as an ordinary citizen.

The legal threats for Hilary have been widely publicized. Her acts which are of dubious legality include the usage during her tenure as Secretary of State of an unsecured personal email server which was utilized to send and receive security classified messages, her inaccurate public description of these matters and more significantly, the inaccurate testimony she gave under oath to Congress about them.

Of concern also is her role in the accommodations given by of our government associated with donations to the Clinton Foundation.

For all of these matters there is probable cause of criminal violation which absent her celebrity status would warrant being submitted to judicial process.

But Hilary is not an ordinary citizen. She has been the de facto leader of the Democrat party and despite a spirited challenge by Vermont Senator Bernie Sanders, she has become the nominee of that party for President.

As her troubles surfaced protective mechanisms appeared. The Federal Bureau of Investigation under its director James Comey conducted a review of the Hilary email usage as it related to classified matters. After about six months of study by up to 150 FBI agents Mr. Comey announced that it would not recommend to the Justice Department any indictment of Hilary under the federal codes considered because there was no finding of criminal intent.

The Comey definition of that intent as being one to harm America has been criticized as inappropriate as it is unspecific to the issues presented. In the course of his presentation of the FBI findings, Mr. Comey referred to the Clinton email usage as “extremely careless,” which is virtually synonymous with “grossly negligent” but he ignored the federal codes that stated a violation occurred when there was gross negligence and did not require intent.

The Justice Department then advised that it would not consider whether an indictment might be found concerning “pay to play” allegations regarding donations made to the Clinton Foundation by foreign entities seeking State Department intervention on their behalf.

The Justice Department has not yet been asked to consider indictment of Hilary for perjury based on her inaccurate statements to Congress, but it is considered highly unlikely that it would act. And then since all this protection has been going on under the guidance and perhaps control of the president, if any conviction of Hilary seemed imminent a presidential reprieve or pardon would be probable.

For those who believe as I do in in the principle that no person is above the law, this triumph of politics over law is highly disturbing. The concern I have is not partisan. It would be exactly the same if the transgressions I described had been done by a member of the other party.

I strongly supported the removal of Richard Nixon as president because of his conduct in the Watergate matter including his obstruction of justice in destroying his tapes.

In my view, it should be a point of principle that political power should never be used as as a shield to prevent any person from incurring the rightful consequences for actions which could jeopardize our national security, for statements made by persons seeking public office about their conduct that are untruthful and for permitting donations to a family foundation by parties seeking to obtain governmental action on their behalf.

At this point, it appears that victory will go to those who wish to short — circuit legal process. But the legacy of that result is a crucial weakening of the rule of law, an integral part of the American governmental system.
