Streaming Netflix, Skyping and your TV as a monitor..." 'James "Kimo" Rosen'

"I had an idea, the light-bulb went on, and I bought myself a Chanukah present..." This blog also ran as an opinion article in the Kaua'i Garden Island News on 12-19-11 http://thegardenisland.com/news/opinion/mailbag/article_ba988b98-2a08-11e1-83f9-001871e3ce6c.html
(Titled, Who needs cable,phone companies?)

I treated myself to a new net-book computer, I had never bought any computer new, I have always bought and used re-furbished Dell desktops from eBay, general price around $60.00 delivered to Hawai'i, which is a steal.
Costco had the  Acer Net-book Aspire one 722 on sale for $350.00 down from $499.00, on top of that you got an automatic $100.00 rebate at the checkout stand from the manufacturer (Acer)  making the total for a brand new net-book only $249.00.  ( a net-book is basically a small laptop)http://us.acer.com/ac/en/US/content/series/aspireone722
This Net-book is fast, has a built in web-cam and I am already skyping with it, and the games of chess and backgammon are amazing. There is 4GB of storage for photos the same as my desktop tower and on top of that I bought a HDMI cord which connects my Net-book directly to my TV which means I can use my TV screen  as a monitor if I so choose.
The real reason for the 'HDMI' was to download netflix, I find this amazing. Instead of renting DVDs you just download your choice of over 20,000 movies and or TV shows.  The download time is amazingly fast, like under 10 seconds and the quality is unbelievable.
I am hooked on a television series called "Damages" starring Glenn Close, William Hurt, Ted Danson, and Lilly Tomlin just to mention a few names. Live streaming 3 years of a TV show in 10 nights is addicting.
If you do not have a 'HDMI' connection cord of which you can buy online for as little as $5.50, I highly recommend you buy one so you can start streamlining unlimited movies and television shows for only $7.99 a month on 'Netflix' or for free on 'Hulu.'
My  computer net-book  only cost $249.00 brand new and  within 4 months will pay itself, since I am cutting my cable down to basic cable, since I can watch all the Netflix I want.
Skype for phone calls(www.skype.com )  and streaming Netflix (www.netflix.com ) saves one thousands of dollars a year, no more is there a  need for the phone or cable companies and if you do use them buy the minimum package and supplement the rest with Netflix, Skype and Hulu.(http://www.hulu.com/ )
What will they think of next.  :D)

Doug, not only skype, but buy yourself a HDMI cord from radio shack or walmart and start live-streaming, in fact you can see your friends on your TV if you so wish with the HDMi connection! And Steve, Mahalos for the great memories, remeMber when we ran in the Homer marathon before it was hip to do so.

It's funny, I use my google toolbar spell check and it corrects my spelling on my facebook comments, but then when I enter the correct spelled version it reverts back to the unchecked version,? Does anyone else experience that?

try it, quality is amazing and sign up for netflix, it's free for 30 days, you get a 30 day trial before they charge your debit or credit card, $7.99 a month. It's like having your own persona video store.
