!!!"Your retired, or in reality your fired..!" 'James "Kimo" Rosen

"Hawai'i state Governor Neil Abercrombie, Obama Da Dog and James "Kimo" Rosen talk story in Kapa'a town, Kauai..." (Please note this blog also ran as an opinion article in the Kaua'i Garden Island News on 12-08-11 under the title,"Overpaid football coaches..." http://thegardenisland.com/news/opinion/mailbag/article_4b222fc0-216c-11e1-b06a-001871e3ce6c.html
The Hawaii Governor's salary is approximately $123,000 a year, the Chancellor of UH Manoa is around $337,000 a year and the average teacher makes approximately $50,000 a year in Hawaii. The coach of the Hawaii state football team makes 1.1 million a year.

Coach Greg McMackin (Mac) did not warrant a salary of over one million dollars a year, even June Jones a name known coach never made that kind of money during his time as head coach.

It was long overdue to force Coach 'Mac' into retirement, he was an average Joe, nothing special, during his tenure at  UH  he  won 29 games and lost 25...

Coach Mac's salary could had been cut in half  and he  still would had been the state's highest paid employee.

I am glad Coach Mac retired, although in actuality we all know he was in essence fired.

Tuition's are on the rise , the state is cutting program after program, may I suggest in the search for the next UH coach to offer a decent salary but don't offer them the whole bank, there are other priorities besides overpaid college coaches.
Maybe now with Coach Mac out of the picture  the state can start balancing the budget and win some football games.

Sports is fun, but it is entertainment.

When taxpayer funds pay entertainers more than three times what we pay the highest official responsible for maintaining the public good, and more tha...n twenty times what we pay those to whom we entrust the education and care of our most precious loved ones, the next generation, we can’t scratch our heads and wonder why the dumbed-down war on science holds such traction."

OK, I agree with both Congressman Eayrs anbd Senator Dunn, however we could still give the coach a huge salary, and he'd still be the highest paid state employee even if the current salary of 1.1 million was cut in half to 500,000, give or take..

And using education revenues to pay entertainers over educators reflects poorly on... the values of an entertainment based society that devalues the education it gives lip service to.

I'm not a congressman or a senator.
Maybe if I'm worthy I can aspire to future guru."

Mr. Guru (3-D) one of the reasons for his retirement (wink wink) was poor attendance...
