Does anyone  else have the strangest of feeling of deja-vu concerning Glenn Micken's  latest letter to the editor, " The path will fail."

 Dear Mr. Mickens, The Multi-use trail was never intended for the businessman  carrying a brief case walking or bicycling to work.  The intention is a for an alternative means of not only getting from point A to point B,  but for exercise, play time, physical therapy time, tourism and an alternative way to get around the island during emergencies.

I will  repeat myself  in saying the multi use trail is the best use of taxpayer monies ever on Kaua'i. I see thousands of people from Physically challenged people in wheelchairs, mothers with strollers, skateboarders, rollerblading, dog walkers,  power walkers, visitors riding rental bicycles and off to the side many people practicing yoga, tai chi and hula. Many people live in cramped quarters and this pedestrian trail is an extension of every-one's backyard.

  Did you know many cities and counties have concessions along their trail systems as a source of revenues to help maintain their  trail systems. Kaua'i could do the same and make the trail a money making venture!

I agree we need more roads too, with less than 260 miles of paved roads on Kauai soon there will be no place to drive just bumper to bumper traffic.

I do not know where you get your 1% percent of the population uses the trail, you are pulling numbers out of your hat, therefore I will venture and do the same and believe that 94.5% of the population is in favor of this federally funded trail system.

 I have the strangest feeling of deja vu and also have a future deja vu vibe telling me you will keep repeating the same dogma from now to eternity.  Therefore I will do the same and say,"Deja vu, Deja vu, Deja vu, the pedestrian trail is good for you!"

"Miz Teeparty..." 'Bettejo Dux' (Classic Wednesday)

Bettejo Dux turned 82 years young on August 15, 2012.Bettejo has lived on the cosmic island of Kaua'i for over 40 years and is a people lover, animal lover and lover of life.Today she talks about Miz Teeparty!

Miz Bulimia USA strolled across the set-ignoring the Uber, just as he had ignored her-like a model with large phony boobs on a cat walk. Her gorgeous mop of auburn hair flowed down her shoulders and  wisped into her deep brown eyes. She had a gorgeous tan. Perhaps a little too tan? Thinking of people of color. Sorry.  I mean it’s winter. How does one get and keep a tan like that? Must ask.

She made me feel fat. Okay, I’m born again. A good Christian but not quite as humble and submissive as I should be. A little too much Palin in me, I guess. Love to hunt and shoot the bare. That’s a laugh line. Fortunately I chose among the wide variety offered on  market a religion that teaches, preaches and practices forgiveness. I’d nearly worn my string of beads out.

Miz Eat-it-up-throw-it-up, understand she actually has a vomitarium in her mansion in the Hamptons, slouched gracefully in the arm-chair and crossed her long slender legs. My, dear, I could almost see up the lagoon.

“Darling, Rhoda” I gushed. “Beautiful as ever. How do you keep your figure?”
“Exercise. Exercise. Exercise. Proper diet. And, fortunately, I’m barren. My husbands & I adopt and raise the lost and abandoned -of every color-as all good Christians should.”
“Of course. The really really black one from that funny country in Africa-or was it Australia- is so precocious and special.”
“Australia.”
“And you. You have such a lovely tan. However do you keep it?”
“It’s my natural color. Year in. Year out.”
“Dark skin in the woodpile?” I dared to tease.

“My great grandmother’s roots are none of your business. I am here as a one precentor. THE one precentor. Taxes, not paying any, is our main objective. The economic structure of this wonderful land must remain the most successful economic system the world has ever known. Pure capitalism.  My husband and I sell vast quantities of the best and healthiest condiments-at the best prices-to the military to nourish our brave young troops. Otherwise how could they eat the slop some others in this country would feed them? It is our hope that those we must deal with remember that.”
“I’m sure they will,”  Oh my, I did touch a nerve. Might’s well hit another. “Didn’t see you in church last Sunday.”

“Of course not. Our church is of the ivy coated tall spire variety. Church of England.  Our God is the same. Our covenants differ.”
You can say that again. “Have you anything more you’d like to say to our vast audience? Your beauty, grace and candor entertains us.”

“I’m sure it does. Life styles of the elite has always  entertained the masses.”
“Bread and circus.” She tossed her hair. Switched legs and crossed ankles. My nose awakened. “What is that heavenly scent?” She out-sniffed me. “Is there anything else you might relate to the multitude who love you?”
“Yes. Be brave. Be loyal. Be happy in your work. It’s money like mine that keeps you going. I’m hiring grooms and gardeners now.”

She rose with no further ado and vanished from the screen. My cameramen knew the ropes. I wiggled and rolled my eyes.

To anyone planning a sojourn to  the cosmic island of Kauai remember do not  rent those shiny red convertibles or brand new spic and span  jeeps to traverse and discover the island.

Hawaii is unique and for any visitor wishing to assimilate and fit right in like  a local you must first purchase a monster pickup truck with wheels taller than you, a tinted windshield allowing nobody to see in and when driving at high speeds make sure and tailgate with your bright headlights on.

Remember to ditch that matching Aloha wear you and your sweetheart purchased for a nice t-shirt, shorts and pair of slippa's (flip flops)
Always ask for chopsticks in lieu of a fork and spoon. Last but not  least remember to pronounce the "TH" sound like a "D,"

It's always amusing watching visitors try and fit in, I guess it's just as amusing to a native Hawaiian watching me thinking I am fitting right in.

With this said., or should I say with '"dis" said, enjoy your trip and tell "dem" Kimo sent you!

Imagine being a psychiatrist  psychologist  or social worker in the  town  of Sandy Hook Connecticut where the recent massacre of 26 mostly children were shot dead at point blank range.

How would you handle talking with the mother of an innocent  eight year old  who went o school one day never to return.

How would you handle talking to the family of the teachers shot dead, how does anyone one handle such a tragedy?

Some have G-d, others say there's a reason for everything, but is there really a reason for such darkness?

What would you say to the families and friends of the suirvors the Sandy Nook massacre?

For me, I am without words...

 SAVE YOUR SIGHT

I have been working in the health field for the last 30 years, specifically Ophthalmology,  and have
noticed that there has been an up swing in diabetes and diabetes in the eyes. I do spend most of my time
working in Buffalo where the population is varied amongst many more types of people and it
seems that over 75% of our patients are diabetic and are not controlling their blood sugars.  The great
thing about working in Ophthalmology is that we can spot diabetes in the eyes before many other
specialists detect it.  The eye is the only place where the circulation can be viewed without any invasive
procedures; all you need are dilating drops to view someone’s  overall health status.  People come in all
week long with elevated blood sugars and many other health problems associated with this disease.

Diabetes can go along for many months or years undetected if people don’t go for regular health check
up’s and blood work.  Many of our inner city people don’t always have the funds to follow their health
as they should and don’t realize that diabetes is one of the leading causes of blindness in the United
states and other countries today.  It can be detected and monitored if people become pro active in their
health.  With the way our health care situation is in this country, many people are caught and have
fallen between  the cracks and place food and shelter before health needs.

Every week we do many laser treatments to the eyes, specifically to the retina which is most affected by
untreated diabetics.  Laser treatment can stop swelling and  the leaking blood vessels that damage the
eye and vision of these diabetics and are the only hope of halting the damage along with injections of
special medication to treat this disease.   For some reason it seems that people are becoming diabetic
more frequently these days; when I began to work in this field, they were more few and far between.

Are we not taking care of ourselves; are we not eating properly or is the economy dictating how healthy
we can become.  For all you diabetics out there, you must try and preserve your sight.  Taking
medication for control is only part of the cure;  eating habits are another.  I am also seeing many more
over weight patients than ever before.  There blood sugars range from 200 on up which is much too high
to maintain good health.  Maybe we need to offer more free training and nutrition information to the
general  public .  Maybe we need to stop the enticing advertising on television and radio that prompt
our population to go out and buy these unhealthy foods and snacks.

There are many health conditions that have become  out of control; we can prevent diabetes, it  is not one of them.
If we are lucky enough to know what our family history is, then we need to be pro active in preventing
ourselves from becoming  another diabetic.  Start early in life taking care of yourself; if you find
yourselves in an un controlled diabetic condition, know that there are treatments out there to preserve
your eyesight.  Don’t delay  seeking help if you are having trouble seeing and  if you are a diabetic.  Don’t
let your vision slip away.  Along with diabetics, we see diseases such as glaucoma and macular
degeneration that are treatable as well but do need the patients cooperation to take an active part in
their own prevention and cures.  There are treatments out there for all these diseases so there is no
reason to Neglect  your precious eyesight .  Don’t take your vision for granted; get a checkup today and
insure a lifetime of good vision.

The Business Deal 

  

A Chinese guy goes to a Jewish guy  to buy black bras, size 38. 

The Jewish guy , known for his skills as a businessman, says that black bras are rare, and that he is finding it very difficult to buy them from his suppliers. Therefore he has to charge $50 for them.

The Chinese guy buys 25 pairs. 

He returns a few days later, and this time orders 50. 

The Jew tells him that they have become even harder to get, and charges him $60 each.

The Chinese guy returns a month later, and buys the Jews remaining stock of 50, and this time for $75 each.

The Jew is somewhat puzzled by the large demand for black size 38 bras and asks the Chinese guy, "Please tell me . . . What do you do with all these black bras?"

The Chinese guy answers: "I cut them in half, and sell them as skull caps to you Jews, for $200 each." 

 

.......and this is why the Chinese own us  !

"Blah,blah, blah, Yada, Yada, Yada..." 'Obama Da Dog'

The most difficult part of being a council member is not blowing your cool  and punching out the many nut cases that continually testify against everything and anything. Whatever you call them contrarians, nitpickers or senile, there's no getting rid of them.

I Finally came to the  realization why our county council  member's make $58,000 a year for what is deemed a part time job on paper.

I live-stream the county council meetings on my computer and with an HDMI cord connected to my TV watch all the council meetings live.

The most difficult part of being a council member is not blowing your cool and punching out the many nut cases that continually testify against everything and anything. Whatever you call them, contrarians, nitpickers or senile, there's no denying  them.

Our council members have turned into behavior psychologists by keeping their cool when every instinct would be to knockout a good majority of the  one's testifying. Week after week of having to listen to such garbage as,"if Jay Furfaro is the chair, why isn't Tim Bynum the couch?, or my favorite used by quite a few,"you guys should all be tarred and feathered..." Council members hold back in their retorts for legal reasons and in hopes of re-election with not wanting to offend anyone. However you know they are aching to retort with wise cracks such as , if we were tarred and feathered we'd look just like your mother.

I believe our council members should  earn honorary doctorate (PHd) degrees for the sole fact of keeping their mouth shut when every human instinct would say otherwise.  The constant stammer of residents  repeating  blah, blah, blah and  yada, yada, yada would drive me crazy.

I don't often compliment politicians, however I must congratulate the Kaua'i County Council for all they have to put up with.  In closing I would like to say blah, blah, blah and yada, yada. yada...
