"God and Dog..." 'James "Kimo" Rosen'

James "Kimo"Rosen is  a retired professional photographer living in Kapa'a
with his best friend Obama da Dog. Rosen also blogs as a hobby.

God and Dog

There are 26 letters in the English alphabet.

Every writer has the same ingredients to write anything from fiction and  non-fiction, to poetry, songs, great recipes and  newspaper opinion columns.

Some writers can write best selling classics, just as some chefs can create 5 star  gourmet dishes.

Just as the constitution states that all men are equal, all writers are too equal, given the 26 letters they have to work with.Once you have use of the ingredients of the 26 letters you need one other key element, the thing we are all born equal with, to have the usage of 24 hours each day to use as we plan.

I hope you enjoy my story created with most of the 26 letters of the alphabet;
Once upon a time lived a grey haired and gotee bearded man with his best friend a dog on the cosmic Garden island of Kauai.
The man realized his only true friend was his dog, however his dog had many friends. People always said hello to the dog and not to the man. People would buy presents and give treats to the dog, and never to the man. The Dog was not only the best friend to the man but made people feel good, even made strangers laugh and smile. This dog was actually a rescue dog that somebody wanted to discard...

This  dog is also very smart, when asked what is on top of the house? She always replies, "roof, roof." When asked the opposite of smooth, she says, "rough, rough."
This dog just happens to be  my dog. She  is so smart I named her  after the 44th president of the United states, "Obama." What's so ironic  is that I have friends that can't even call my dog by her name, since they dislike President Obama with a passion. Obama therefore  has taken on the moniker of 'Bommers' or 'Boms.'

When I am out in public and call my dog's name or say, "Obama get over here,"  people look at me with strange eyes, like I am crazy. They think I am calling the president, they don't realize my dog's name is Obama.

Upon realizing it, they usually smile and say something to the nature of, "we can tell our friends on the mainland we met 'Obama' on Kauai in person, or should we say in dog?"

To anyone battling depression or just in need of a true friend, may I suggest getting your own 'Obama,' your own rescue dog or even a cat.  I know the fifty dollars I spent to  acquire a best friend is the best $50.00 I ever spent. The dog also came with a bag of dog food, a training video, all shots, a leash, discount coupons and a heart of gold.

I would like to quote part of  the song "God and Dog" by Wendy Francisco;"I look up and I see God, I look down and see my dog."Simple spelling G O D, same word backwards, D O G." "And in my human frailty...I can't match their love for me."   http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H17edn_RZoY

The expression goes, "Dogs are man's best friend."Please visit your local  ASPCA  or humane society and  adopt a dog today, or better yet have the dog  rescue you as was my good fortune.  I like to tell people, Obama rescued me, that is "Obama Da Dog!

"My Dog Named Sex..." 'Chester "Unc" Lau' (Source)

Dakinetalks favorite Uncle (Chester Lau)
"Unc" is a retired cinematographer currently living
on the Hawai'ian Island of Oahu & giving the politicians a bad time...

My Dog Named Sex

A Dog Named Sex
Everybody I know who has a dog usually calls him "Rover" , "Spot" or lady Obama,
I call mine Sex. Now, Sex has been very embarrassing to me. When I went
to the City Hall to renew the dog's license, I told the clerk that I
would like a license for Sex. He said, "I would like to have one too!"

Then I said, "But she is a dog!" He said he didn't care what she
looked like. I said, "You don't understand.... I have had Sex since I
was nine years old." He replied, "You must have been quite a strong
boy."

When I decided to get married, I told the minister that I would like
to have Sex at the wedding. He told me to wait until after the wedding
was over. I said, "But Sex has played a big part in my life and my
whole world revolves around Sex." He said he didn't want to hear about
my personal life and would not marry us in his church. I told him
everyone would enjoy having Sex at the wedding. The next day we were
married at the Justice of the Peace. My family is barred from the
church from then on.

When my wife and I went on our honeymoon, I took the dog with me. When
we checked into the motel, I told the clerk that I wanted a room for
me and my wife and a special room for Sex. He said that every room in
the motel is a place for sex. I said, "You don't understand. Sex keeps
me awake at night." The clerk said, "Me too !"

One day I entered Sex in a contest. But before the competition began,
the dog ran away. Another contestant asked me why I was just looking
around. I told him that I was going to have Sex in the contest. He
said that I should have sold my own tickets. "You don't understand," I
said, "I hoped to have Sex on TV." He called me a show off.

When my wife and I separated, we went to court to fight for custody of
the dog. I said, "Your Honor, I had Sex before I was married but Sex
left me after I was married." The Judge said, "Me too!"

Last night Sex ran off again. I spent hours looking all over for her.
A cop came over and asked me what I was doing in the alley at 4
o'clock in the morning. I said, "I'm looking for Sex." --

My case comes up next Thursday.

Well now I've been thrown in jail, been divorced and had more troubles
with that dog than I ever foresaw. Why just the other day when I went
for my first session with the psychiatrist, she asked me, "What seems
to be the trouble?" I replied, "Sex has been my best friend all my
life but now it has left me for ever. I couldn't live any longer so
lonely." And the doctor said, "Look, mister, you should understand
that sex isn't a man's best friend, so get yourself a dog."

"Spring has sprung..." 'Bettejo Dux' (Classic Wednesday)

Bettejo Dux has lived on the cosmic Garden Island of Kaua'i for over 40 years.
Bettejo is a regular columnist in the Garden Island news and is the author of the
famed novella, "The Scam."

www.bettejodux.com

Spring has sprung

The grass has riz. I wonder where the birdies is?
Wonder no more, dear reader, they're all singing their hearts out in my  jungle. Waking up-and going to bed in my barn/house-is like waking up in an aviary. A feathered chorale fills the air with perfumed sound. If I could cage several in happy cages and install one in every household on Kauai the happiness factor would rise a thousand percent.

Another clue about health and happiness on Kauai-anywhere for that matter- is the importance of green plants  in your life. I've read that it is most important for the human eye to see green living things, but what I know is: first came the grass, then came the trees, then came life on planet earth, our home.

We all know green living plants are the best photosynthesizers. They turn carbon dioxide into oxygen. A day spent in the woods, or in a tree strewn park adds years to your life. Lying down on  a clean green  lawn or meadow can, if you allow it, fill you heart with joy. Add bird songs, blue skies, a sweet pineapple juice rain and sunshine-maybe a good book- and you have everything you need. It's a universal truth. Try it.]

Maybe part of what made my 83-year-young journey possible were the years I spent riding in those long tall gloriously green fields of sugar cane. I was out there five days a week-my leopard, Beauregard, was a union horse-with the field hands and the mules. They loved us. We loved them back.

Here is a really good suggestion about  making your life better. Grow house plants. Honest. Find a container-pottery, ceramic, porcelain, glass or  plastic-fill it full of the good earth. Potting soil isn't that expensive and a bag  goes a long way. I'll be happy to share some of Ari's composted poop-then find something green you like- it doesn't have to be exotic-and stick it in feet first. There are plants that love to grow indoors  Experiment. Water it with coffee grounds, slip it some cut up pieces of banana skin, egg shells or even talk to it. Touch it. Dust it. Give it a name. It will become as dear to you and your family as a four-legged pet. Easier and less expensive to care for, too.

Fill your house, every room-living, bedroom, bath and kitchen-with life. Turn it into a green house.
Philodendron is a good plant to start with. The name means tree lover. It's beautiful foliage and there are several hundred species. Organic wheat-grass in little pots on table tops and clustered in  corners-some plants like company-can end  cut up and sprinkled on top of soups and salads. You can drink it, too. Herbs and sprouts are neat and tidy. Great aromas!  Mixed in with hard-boiled-free range eggs-bread-less egg salad sandwich style- and feel the energy.

Someone wrote, "If you want to be happy overnight, get drunk. For a weekend get married. For a lifetime learn to garden. Indoors.

P.S. Our local newspaper , The Kaua'i Garden island news ran a story about the wild chickens of Kaua'i. The chickens are everywhere and most consider them a nuisance. The story really had me going for a while until I realized the author of the article 'April Fuhl' is April Fool!  Very funny, check it out! Mahalo to editor-n-chief Bill Buley for having a sense of humor!

P.S.S.  Kaua'i  blogger Andy Parx talks of the recent ultralight fatality and what really happened!   Great blog!

  Guest-blogger,Robert Bitos Gandia.
Robert is an avid cook (ono gandule rice) and always laughing!!
He works at Syngenta as a Research Associate.
Robert lives in Kekaha on Kauai's west-side and loves football!!

The human race

"A little girl asked her father: “Where did the human race come from?”

The father answered, ‘God made Adam and Eve; they had children; and so was all mankind made.’

A couple of days later the little girl asked her mother the same question.

The mother answered, ‘Many years ago there were some monkeys from which the human race evolved.’

The confused girl returned to her father and said, ‘Dad, how is it possible that you told me the human race was created by God, and Mom said we evolved from monkeys?’

The father answered, ‘Well, Dear, it is very simple. I told you about my side of the family, and your mother told you about hers.’”

"Helping the homeless..." 'Judith Whitehead (Inspiration Sunday)

Judith Whitehead lives in Amherst New York and has worked in
the ophthalmology field of medicine for over 30 years.

Helping the homeless

I have always been a proponent of giving back to those in need. I have collected donations for countless causes and tried to give of my time and money whenever I could, but until recently I’d never attended a major fundraising event. I felt it was time to be a part of something larger.

My son lives in Los Angeles and works for a philanthropic boss who has been giving back to his community through the contacts he has met over his many years in the music business. So we decided to donate to the From Hollywood With Love concert to benefit the Midnight Mission in Los Angeles.

California has a huge homeless population and has a very organized way of getting people back on their feet through rehabilitation and retooling skills. The mission feeds, clothes and employs thousands of people every year. More than 30 performers donated their time and efforts by holding a four-hour concert that could be attended through a donation to the mission. Not only were the performers excellent, but the message was heartfelt. Previously homeless people stood up to speak of how easy it is to become homeless and the dangers of living on the street.

It’s easy to forget about all of the needy people in our country when we are comfortable and secure in our own homes and jobs. There is a fine line between living comfortably and losing a job and the security that comes with it. It can be lost in an instant. Many Americans live one paycheck away from becoming homeless, and this benefit of talented performers brought that fact home clearly.

As we enjoyed the music, we felt very fortunate and thankful that we were able to attend and donate money to this worthwhile event. There are so many people who fall victim to circumstances beyond their control. It seems that the homeless situation only increases nationwide as our economy struggles to stay afloat.

As we sit in our comfortable homes, we need to realize how many unfortunate people are struggling to survive, and try to make a difference and pay it forward. We felt a great sense of satisfaction as we left the event and are anxious to find more ways to give back in the future.

Those individuals who have so much need to evaluate their priorities. If everyone in some small way decided to give of his time and money, we could make a dent in our homeless situation.

Many influential individuals choose to devote their efforts and monetary support to other countries in need. How about looking at our neighbors here in the United States? Each of our 50 states has a sizable number of people who are living in shelters or on the streets. There are many hungry and needy people right under our noses. Why reach out to other countries when our own people are in desperate need? It gives us food for thought. Giving to others, even if only in small amounts of time or money, can make a huge difference if we all make the effort.

Attending this benefit concert has made me much more aware of the problems plaguing our country. I see it every day working downtown, because our office is only a few blocks away from the Buffalo City Mission. At any given time, we are witness to the homeless and needy on our city’s streets.

We all need to take a step back and realize just how much we have and how lucky we are. There but for the grace of God, go we, the lucky ones.

"Never laugh at a Chinese...." 'Chester "Unc" Lau' (Source)

Dakinetalks favorite Uncle (Chester Lau)
"Unc" is a retired cinematographer currently living
on the Hawai'ian Island of Oahu and giving the politicians a bad time...

Never laugh at a Chinese

A Chinese man walks into a bank in New York City and asks for the loan officer. He tells the loan officer that he is going to China on business for two weeks and needs to borrow $5,000.

The bank officer tells him that the bank will need some form of security for the loan, so the Chinese man hands over the keys to a new Ferrari parked on the street in front of the bank. He produces the title and everything checks out.

The Loan officer agrees to accept the car as collateral for the loan. The bank's president and its officers all enjoy a good laugh at the Chinese for using a $250,000 Ferrari as collateral against a $5,000 loan.
An employee of the bank then drives the Ferrari into the bank's underground garage and parks it there.

Two weeks later, the Chinese returns, repays the $5,000 and the interest, which comes to $15.41.

The loan officer says, 'Sir, we are very happy to have had your business, and this transaction has worked out very nicely, but we are a little puzzled. While you were away, we checked you out and found that you are a multi-millionaire. What puzzles us is why you would bother to borrow $5,000? The Chinese replies: 'Where else in New York City can I park my car for two weeks for only $15.41 and expect it to be there safely when I return.'
