"ADVICE FROM A RETIRED HUSBAND..." 'Obama Da Dog (source)

Obama Da Dog  was born and raised on the island of Kaua'i.
She can be seen around Kapa'a  town with her best friend, James "Kimo" Rosen.

ADVICE FROM A RETIRED HUSBAND

It is important for men to remember that, as women grow older, it becomes harder for them to maintain the same quality of housekeeping as when they were younger. When you notice this, try not to yell at them. Some are oversensitive, and there's nothing worse than an oversensitive woman.

My name is John. Let me relate how I handled the situation with my wife. When I retired a few years ago, it became necessary for Patricia to get a full-time job, along with her part-time job, both for extra income and for the health benefits that we needed.
Shortly after she started working, I noticed she was beginning to show her age. I usually get home from the golf club about the same time she gets home from work.

Although she knows how hungry I am, she almost always says she has to rest for half an hour or so before she starts dinner. I don't yell at her.. Instead, I tell her to take her time and just wake me when she gets dinner on the table. I generally have lunch in the Men's Grill at the club, so eating out is unreasonable. I'm ready for some home-cooked grub when I hit that door.

She used to do the dishes as soon as we finished eating. But now it's not unusual for them to sit on the table for several hours after dinner. I do what I can by diplomatically reminding her several times each evening that they won't clean themselves. I know she really appreciates this, as it does seem to motivate her to get them done before she goes to bed.

Another symptom of aging is complaining, I think. For example, she will say that it is difficult for her to find time to pay the monthly bills during her lunch hour. But, Boys, we take 'em for better or worse, so I just smile and offer encouragement. I tell her to stretch it out over two, or even three days. That way, she won't have to rush so much. I also remind her that missing lunch completely now and then wouldn't hurt her any (if you know what I mean) I like to think tact is one of my strong points.

When doing simple jobs, she seems to think she needs more rest periods. She had to take a break when she was only half-finished mowing the lawn try not to make a scene. I'm a fair man.. I tell her to fix herself a nice, big, cold glass of freshly squeezed lemonade and just sit for a while. And, as long as she is making one for herself, she may as well make one for me, too.

I know that I probably look like a saint in the way I support my wife. I'm not saying that showing this much consideration is easy. Many men will find it difficult. Some will find it impossible! Nobody knows better than I do how frustrating women get as they get older.

However, Guys, even if you just use a little more tact and less criticism of your aging wife because of this article, I will consider that writing it was well worthwhile. After all, we are put on this earth to help each other.

EDITOR'S NOTE:
John, died suddenly on January 31 of a perforated rectum. The police report says he was found with a Calloway extra-long 50-inch Big Bertha Driver II golf club jammed up his rear end, with barely 5 inches of grip showing, and a sledge hammer laying nearby. His wife was arrested and charged with murder. The all-woman jury took only 10 minutes to find her Not Guilty, accepting her defense that John, somehow without looking, accidentally sat down on his golf club.

"Breaking News, Monk Seals and Humans" (Kimo's world #47)

James “Kimo” Rosen is a retired professional photographer
living in Kapa'a with his best friend Obama Da Dog,
Rosen also blogs as a hobby...

The enclosed blog is an opinion article I recently sent to the local newspaper, (The Garden Island News) aka (TGI)

Kimo's world #47

Breaking News, Monk Seals and Humans

Dear Editor,

I enjoy reading your paper daily and am thrilled that you brought back the Saturday print edition.

With that said,I do not understand why TGI  on Sunday December 7,2014 would publish  as the lead story on the front page of the print edition yet  another article on the death of a female Monk seal?
http://thegardenisland.com/news/local/and-growing/article_4882bed4-7dd9-11e4-9364-8bc683a92d0e.html  ($25,000 — and growing)

There have already been 4 front page articles including Sunday's and a few  editorials in the last week on this female endangered  monk seal. Wednesday  featured the story, Thursday, Friday and Sunday featured reward money and the repetitive story.
http://thegardenisland.com/news/local/monk-seal-pup-killed/article_bbcc4a22-7ab4-11e4-9a3a-6b420e7c03a3.html (Monk seal pup killed)

http://thegardenisland.com/news/opinion/editorial/monk-seal-pup-killer-a-coward/article_7a9c6518-7b82-11e4-88c3-b3e7585ee963.html (Monk seal pup killer a coward)

http://thegardenisland.com/news/local/tgi-offers-reward-for-seal-killer/article_de9d7bc8-7c1e-11e4-83c1-a3e0545584f3.html   (TGI offers $10,000 reward for seal killer)

There was a breaking news story from the previous day Saturday December 6,2014 of a major traffic fatality that  took the life of  a man and  closed Kaumualli highway for approximately 3 hours. Causing many hardships, missed appointments, missed air flights , doctors appointments, the list goes on.

Nowhere on the front page of the print edition was there even a box ad at the bottom of the page giving readers a lead of where to go to find this story, instead it was buried inside on page  A-6.

I understand  the death of an endangered species monk seal is major news in Hawai'i, however when a fellow human dies in traffic fatality that should trump a repetitive story of a dead monk seal as the front page headline.

I freelanced for many years  as a photojournalist and kept a police scanner in my portrait studio. Whenever I would call any editor advising  them I photographed an accident and asked if they were interested in the photos, the first thing they would ask, "were there any fatalities?" If I said no, they were not interested, if i said yes, I had the front page.

Oh, how journalism has changed.

" Motivation and a message to all those bosses out there..." 'Judith Whitehed' (Inspiration Sunday)

Judith Whitehead lives in Amherst New York and has worked in
the ophthalmology field of medicine for over 30 years.

Motivation and a message to all those bosses out there.

How does one stay motivated at their job when there are no rewards for the hard work that has been done all year?

One of the few offices I have worked in over the years is comprised  of a small staff, two docs and no holiday lunch/dinner, no party. A small monetary envelope as an afterthought with no message even written on the envelope or card.

I guess motivation must come from inside ourselves.
We must enjoy our work so much that we are doing it for the greater good.

Just the smallest gesture of good will goes a long long way; hopefully all those bosses out there find a way to recognize their staff this one time a year when it is much appreciated.

Yes we work for a salary and can put food on the table but once in a while how about we just hear those words, "good job, or "job well done".  We know in our hearts we are doing a great job but it helps to hear it.

"The Jewish matchmaker.." Obama Da Dog' (Source)

Obama Da Dog is a lifelong Hawaiian...
She was raised Jewish and enjoys tastefulJewish jokes.

The Jewish matchmaker.

A good  Jewish Hassidic family is most concerned that their 30-year-old son is unmarried. So, they call a marriage broker and ask him to find their son a good wife.

The matchmaker  broker comes over to their house and spends a long time asking questions of the son and his parents as to what they want in a wife/daughter-in-law.They give him a long shopping list of requirements.

The marriage broker takes a long time looking, and finally asks to visit the family again. He then tells them of a wonderful woman he has found.

He says she's just the right age for the son. She keeps a Glatt Kosher home, she regularly attends synagogue and knows the prayers by heart, and she's a wonderful cook. She loves children and wants a large family. And, to crown it all off, she's gorgeous.

After hearing all this, the family is very impressed and begins to get excited about the prospects of a wedding in the near future.

But the son pauses and asks inappropriately:'Is she any good in bed?'
The marriage broker answers, ' WELL ... SOME SAY YES, SOME SAY NO !! '

"Hawai'i, The Ironies, Complexities and Contradictions..." 'Bettejo Dux' (Classic Wednesday)

Bettejo Dux has lived on the cosmic Garden Island of Kaua'i for over 40 years...
Bettejo is the author of the famed novellas "The Scam."
and recently published  "Children of Extinction..."
Both books available on www.amazon.com

Hawai'i,  The Ironies, Complexities and Contradictions

Hawai'ian history. Did we 'steal' Hawai'i from the Hawai'ians? You betcha.

But remember, the indigenous Hawai'ian had no concept of private ownership of land. The King owned it all. The people were to live productively-fish, farm, fight and die- peacefully on the land. Take care they  didn't step in the King's shadow.

The first white men to arrive, with billowing sails- and TB, venereal disease, measles, mosquitoes, nails, smallpox and other civilized gifts-were Englishmen. Captain James Cook-no 'e'-and his horny crew. Cooke got eaten. Long pig.

Russians popped in.  Popped out. Then come the American missionaries with their book and outdoor walk- around night gowns. Nudity was a sin. Sex was a sin. Everything was a sin. The Hawai'ians say, "When the missionaries arrived, they had the Bibles and we had the land. Now we got the Bibles and they got the land." Religion reared its ugly head. Most of those early missionary women had a terrible case of the ugugs.

Don't forget the whalers. Fun and games when they came ashore. Hottest spot was Lahai'na. Wow, wow, wow and whoopity do.

Then commerce. Sugar. Queen Emma- a compassionate, sensible woman- looks around and sees that the pale faces controlled all the land. So she issued a decree-the Great Mahele-sign a paper, peasant, and your small piece of paradise-your kuliana- belong to you and you can -'sell' that piece of paper for a few bucks or a bottle of beer to any one who can then kick you off your land.

A personal touch, years later- the 1980s-my husband and I buy our land from Alexander and Baldwin. Where they got it, nobody knows. Or tells, anyway. We bought it. Worked for the money, used it to buy a piece of paper that says 'we own it'. I ain't given' it back to no Hawai'ians. I gave it to NTBG. John Allerton gets in the act.

Christian missionaries and American business men have a sacred economic system.  Greedy business.  Form a group, plea with Washington to become a territory-be sure you read Mark Twain. Call out the Marines. Haul Emma's ass off to home detention.   Commerce reigns.  Tourism. Development. Suburban sprawl. Money. Money. Money, honey.Religion. Capitalism. Holy shit.

Then comes the  American military  in force. Big brass US Navy muckity mucks. So racist they make Ferguson look like a luau.

Pearl Harbor was a big deal. Excellent Naval Base. Best in the Pacific. The Massey case was a scandalous yellow journalism news blast all over the country. Hearst had a field day. There goes tourism. Matson squeals. Help. Shirley Temple sails the Lurline.  Kind'a cleans up the act. Good for business.

Then come the Japanese and Pearl Harbor. Please note, they only bombed the bases. Made a mess. Martial law. Americans  put back to work-the Great Depression goes bye bye- and the rich get richer building war ships. Kaiser builds a gated community.

If I were a Hawai'ian, I'd make 'them' clean the place up before I took it back.

"A Priest And A Nun..." 'Obama Da dog' (Source)

Obama Da Dog  was born and raised on the island of Kaua'i.
She can be seen around Kapa'a  town with her best friend, James "Kimo" Rosen.

A Priest And A Nun

A priest and a nun are on their way back home from a trip when their car breaks down. They are unable to get it fixed, so they decide to spend the night in a hotel. The only hotel in the town has only one room available.

Priest: Sister, I don’t think the Lord would have a problem, under the circumstances, if we spent the night together in this one room. I’ll sleep on the lounge and you have the bed.

Nun: I think that would be okay.
They prepare for bed and each one takes their agreed place in the room. Ten minutes later…

Nun: Father, I’m terribly cold.
Priest: Okay, I’ll get you a blanket. (He does)

Ten minutes later…

Nun: Father, I’m still terribly cold.
Priest: Okay Sister, I’ll get you another blanket. (He does)

Ten minutes later…

Nun: Father, I’m still terribly cold. I don’t think the Lord would mind if we acted as man and wife just for this one night.

Priest: You’re probably right…get up and get your own damn blanket !!

"Social Vampires..." 'Kimo's world #46'

James “Kimo” Rosen is a retired professional photographer living in Kapa'a
with his best friend Obama Da Dog, Rosen also blogs as a hobby...

Kimo's World #46
Social Vampires

Most people do not  want to hear about your problems. Do you want to constantly hear about other peoples problems?

When I was younger friends would call each other and say things such as, "what do you want to do?"  You might had responded, "I don't know, what do you want to do?"   Eventually you settle for a movie, bowling or round of mini golf.

It seems nowadays when you  have a conversation with someone it can be  draining. Who needs friends that are like social vampires, draining all your positive energy?

Sure, I understand we all  have our ups and downs, but I'm referring to the chronic drama Queens and Kings. There are times we need our friends and they need us,  nobody wants a relationship where the person is a constant drain.

We all need to be more positive and considerate to not drain our friends energies. Nobody wants to be referred to as a social Dracula.

They say when you put 100 grandfather clocks in a room and all of them are ticking to a different beat within a short time they will all be in sync. Unfortunately In my case the ones ticking in sync were all negative.

Hanging out with negative people will make you negative. "Negativity breeds negativity."

I am going to try my best to be positive, how about you?

Did I mention everyone is out to get me and nobody likes me?   Just kiddin...   ;-)
