The German Shepherd and the rest of the story
Two weeks ago on January 27, 2015 I had an eye Doctor appointment about 3 miles from home. I rode my bike as I usually do with my canine buddy'Obama' running a long side my bike.
I was about 2 blocks from my final destination when out of nowhere I see through my peripheral a German Shepherd running across the highway, it's nose and eyes positioned to feast on my best friend Obama Da DOG.
I rode as fast as these old legs of mine allowed and screamed a big 'WAYA' and said a prayer. The dog somehow disappeared...?
This whole situation was lost in my brain until yesterday while shopping at my favorite store Costco, when a woman named Rachel stops me, introduces herself and asks, what happened to the German Shepherd she hit with her car that went off whimpering with some sort of leg or hip injury when I was riding my bike?
I told her I had no idea she had hit the German Shepherd with her car. She told me she felt bad and drove back looking for the dog but could not find it.
I told her she most likely saved my best friends life. I told her not to feel bad since dogs on Kaua'i are legally to be contained in a yard or on a leash. I told her the owner of that dog was clearly breaking the law, she replied, "maybe the dog jumped a fence?
I told her, either way, Wow, what a story, you are my Angel.
The late Paul Harvey would had said, "Now you know the rest of the story..."

Kimo's world #56
They no longer talk to me, yeah!
There are those whom get annoyed and think they will punish you by no longer talking to you and giving you the silent treatment, really?
These are the folks who have inflated ego's to think that a punishment is not to hear their voice. Is that really going to upset me or make my life that much less stressful?
In fact it's one less 'blabberer' around to have to pretend to listen and act interested.
These people are most often the ones who never shut up and it is actually a blessing when they think they are punishing you by not talking.
Maybe a real punishment would be having to listen to them. I guess the jokes on them!
To those of you who have quit talking to me, may I say thank you.

"The Extinction of the Compact Disc..." 'Judith Whitehead' (Inspiration Sunday)
Judith Whitehead lives in Amherst New York
( A suburb of Buffalo, N.Y.)and has worked
in the ophthalmology field of medicine for over 30 years.
The Extinction of the CD (Compact Disc)
I remember when I first heard the word CD; my babysitter was over when my son was about 3 yrs old, and he told me he was going to the store to get a new CD. I wondered what the heck he was
talking about because the only CD I Knew of was a place to put your money in at the Bank. After he explained it to me I was dumbfounded. What an invention!!
Now if we fast forward 30 years later I can’t believe they are talking about making less and less CD’s and not even having them in the new cars to use. Here we thought tape players in the car were amazing and now we won’t even have the option to
put a CD into the magic slot in the car dashboard and chill to the great music from one artist.
Back in the 1990’s my son cut his own recordings and put them on CD’s which was amazing to me.
Now the wave of the future is to plug your I phone into the car and play music from that or from 'Pandora,' a website that has music of your choice on it.
In my 60 years, I can’t believe how technology has advanced so quickly, mostly for the good and at the same time our internet hackers have improved their technique as well. We have learned by mostly experience, that greater protection of our
personal information is needed. With every good advancement comes dangerous technology at the same time.
I broke down and turned in my flip phone a few years ago and was willing to try an I phone. I will admit that I was reticent to give it up and didn't know if I could make the adjustment. It did not take me long to acclimate and before long the phone became another appendage to my body never leaving my side.
The constant flow of messages, and information keeps a hold on me and I am never without it. I am also amazed at the usefulness it brings to the table, especially if you have family that may need your help.
I can’t believe that I am saying this but I am one of those people that has to return to the house in the morning if I forget it. We even changed our house phone to the basic service since no one calls me at that number any longer; I can even say, I almost don’t remember the number if someone asks me…
I can only imagine what the future may hold in this line of technology. I still remember playing my 45 records on my little record player that I got as a holiday gift one year. When I say 45’s some young people of today have no idea what I am taking about.
They know what vinyl records are but can’t imagine the inconvenience of putting a large disc on a player that was not mobile to listen to music.
I hear that vinyl is becoming a collector’s item once again and are sold at Flee markets because they look so cool. The musicians that recorded those tunes will never be forgotten. Their music was about real life and true stories that don’t even compare to the tunes of today.
Some of those older artists are making comebacks because we long for that sound from the 60’s and 70’s that made sense back then.
As technology improves and moves us along, we must educate ourselves and keep up if we are to fit into this new world. There are new things to learn every day and no one is too old to try.
I work with patients that are in their 80’s and 90’s that have computers and take advantage of them. It keeps their
minds sharp and informed.
We must buy into the new technology or we will be left in the dust.

"A True Love Story..." 'Obama Da Dog' (Source)
![]() |
| Obama Da Dog is a lifelong Hawai'ian. Obama likes to watch the Sunrise and Sunset with her best friend James "Kimo" Rosen... |
A married couple was in a terrible accident where the woman's face was severely burned.
The doctor told the husband that they couldn't graft any skin from her body because she was too skinny.
So the husband offered to donate some of his own skin.
However, the only skin on his body that the doctor felt was suitable would have to come from his buttocks.
The husband and wife agreed that they would tell no one about where the skin came from, and requested that the doctor also honor their secret. After all, this was a very delicate matter.
After the surgery was completed, everyone was astounded at the woman's new beauty.
She looked more beautiful than she ever had before!
All her friends and relatives just went on and on about her youthful beauty!
One day, she was alone with her husband, and she was overcome with emotion at his sacrifice.
She said, "Dear, I just want to thank you for everything you did for me. There is no way I could ever repay you."
"My darling," he replied, "Think nothing of it. I get all the thanks I need every time I see your mother kiss you on the cheek."

"Ted Turner..." 'Bettejo Dux' (Classic Wednesday)
Ted Turner
Just when too many of us despaired about billionaires and such, someone came along. Fell off my screen and into my lap as it were. Saw pictures-cute-and read on my computer about a guy who owns more land in America than any other American. Two million acres of personal and ranch land. That's'a'lot'a square feet.
What does he do with it? This question coming from a lady who once lived in comfortable middle class territory but who has downed-or upped-her economic status but managing to survive as upper lower. I got some land. 160,000 square feet of jungle to walk around on. Ain't so bad. I got shelter, transportation, feed me and my zoo, Aristotle-my famous horse-a grown up puppy, two cats, one hen and a Macaw and, so far, manage to pay my bills.
So who is this guy?
His name is Ted Turner. I started with his quotes. I'm a writer. I love quotes. "The sad thing about destroying the environment is that we're going to take the rest of life with us. The bluebirds will be gone, and the elephants will be gone, and the tigers will be gone, and the pandas will be gone."
I fell off my stool. Plunked off on my skinny okole'. Picked myself up, brushed myself, and began to google.
Mr. Turner, I read, managed to unite economic with ecological sustainability. Relying on bison and hunting/fishing/nature and tourism. On his web I see a picture of happy bison in green grass. I see gorgeous open land and hear he created this "...to save the land from development."
Another quote, "I love this planet...I want to see the environment preserved and I want to see everybody living decently in a more equitable, kind-hearted, thoughtful, generous world."
He's an incredible philanthropist. His foundations. The Ted Turner Foundation (TFI) supports efforts for improving air and water quality, developing a sustainable energy future to protect our climate, safeguard our environmental health, maintaining wildlife habitat protection, and developing practices and policies to curb population growth rates.
Mr. Turner? May I call you Ted? Speaking for many of us on Kauai who like coqui frogs, crowing roosters, parakeets, feral pigs and goats and cats and the beauty we are surrounded with on our little piece of paradise, please help us out.
We are threatened with over development. Suburban sprawl.
Destruction of our air, waterways, and soil by powerful corporations-with dollar signs instead of hearts-who would turn Kauai into one vast experimental plantation. Growing GMO corn we cannot eat. Producing milk we cannot drink in a milk factory that threatens every living thing in its path.
We invite you to visit us. Stay with us. Bed and breakfast. Free. As long as you like. Incognito. Meet interesting guys. RSVP
My horse, Aristotle-who in a previous life was a famous philosopher-told me to write this. He said, "Even billionaires love a free lunch."

Fishing in China
Man on phone: "Honey I've been asked to go fishing in China with my boss for a week. This is a good opportunity for me to get d promotion. So could you please pack enough clothes for a week, set out my rod & fishing box. We're leaving from office and I'll swing by the house to pick my things. Oh, Please pack my new blue silk pajamas!"
The wife thinks this sounds a bit fishy, but being a good wife she did exactly as her husband said.
The following weekend he came home a little tired but looking good..
The wife welcomed him & asked if he caught many fish?
He said "Yes, Lots of Salmon, Blue gill & a few Swordfish. But why didn't u pack my blue silk pajamas?"
You'll love the answer..!!
She says, "I did.....They're in your fishing box "

"The Pizza Conspiracy..." 'Kimo's world #55'
Kimo's world #55
The Pizza Conspiracy
I think most people enjoy the comfort food of Pizza? There are all kinds of Pizza these days.
From pesto, marinara to white wine as the sauce. The ingredients can vary with every variety of vegetable and meat imaginable. The crust can be white, whole wheat, Gluten free and many other varieties. Some pizzeria's even fill the crust with additional cheese.
The conspiracy happens when you order multiple ingredients on the same pizza. If you order a Cheese and Pepperoni pizza it usually has a good amount of pepperoni's on it, lets ball park and say there are 30 slices of pepperoni on a large pizza. Let's say that pizza cost $15.00.
Now you want a two ingredient pizza where the price is $18.00. You order Cheese, pepperoni and mushroom, however to make room for the mushrooms you only get half the amount of pepperoni approximately 15. The same is true for three ingredients, now you have less pepperoni and less mushroom to make room the jalapeno peppers.
Since the volume is the same whether one ingredient or three ingredients, shouldn't the price be the same and not additional?
There is only one place that sells pizza that does not charge for extra ingredients, it is our local big box store, Costco.
For the one millionth time, Mahalo Hui Loa to Costco, not only for pricing their pizza's in a sane manner but for selling gas for over $1.00 a gallon cheaper than any other station on the island.
Did someone say a one quarter all beef hot dog with all the fixins and a refillable soft-drink for 1.50? I hear someone calling, I think it's my friend Costco!
