"Whats in a name..."'Judith Whitehead' (Inspiration Sunday)

Judith Whitehead lives in Amherst New York
( A suburb of Buffalo, N.Y.)
and has worked in the ophthalmology
field of medicine for over 30 years

Whats in a name.....

Having been born with the name Judith during the "Judy Garland" era, I never loved or disliked my name.  I just went with it.

Most of my younger life most people would call me Judy but I have found in my more mature years many people, friends and family have morphed my name into derivatives of the name, all in a friendly, loving gesture  which has amused me over the years.
Some call me Joode, JuGe, Judes,  and other affectionate names. I have gone to using the whole name Judith for my writing and professional documents written.

Over the years I have grown to become fonder of  my name and it does seem to fit me.

As one of our great comedians used to state "call me anything you want but just don't call me late for dinner" and the long popular phrase from Cary Grant that I have heard no more than a thousand times, "Judy, Judy, Judy."

P.S.
Check out this recording of Cary Grant saying, "Judy, Judy, Judy."

Judy, Judy, Judy!  ;-)

Guest-blogger,Robert Bitos Gandia
.Robert is an avid cook (ono gandule rice) and always laughing!!
Robert lives in Kekaha on Kauai's west-side and loves football!!

20 jokes so bad that you'll actually laugh

1. Two antennas met on a roof, fell in love and got married. The Ceremony wasn't much, but the reception was excellent.

2. A jumper cable walks into a bar. The bartender says, "I'll serve you, but don't start anything."

3. A woman has twins and gives them up for adoption. One of them goes to a family in Egypt and is named "Ahmal." The other goes to a family in Spain; they name him "Juan." Years later, Juan sends a picture of himself to his birth mother. Upon receiving the picture, she tells her husband that she wishes she also had a picture of Ahmal. Her husband responds, "They're twins! If you've seen Juan, you've seen Ahmal."

4. A dyslexic man walks into a bra.

5. A man walks into a bar with a slab of asphalt under his arm and says: "A beer please, and one for the road."

6. Two cannibals are eating a clown. One says to the other: "Does this taste funny to you?"

7. "Doc, I can't stop singing 'The Green, Green Grass of Home.'"
"That sounds like Tom Jones Syndrome."
"Is it common?"

Well, "It's Not Unusual."
8. Two cows are standing next to each other in a field. Daisy says to Dolly, "I was artificially inseminated this morning."
"I don't believe you," says Dolly.
"It's true, no bull!" exclaims Daisy.

9. An invisible man marries an invisible woman. The kids were nothing to look at either.

10. Deja Moo: The feeling that you've heard this bull before.

11. I went to buy some camouflage trousers the other day but I couldn't find any.

12. A man woke up in a hospital after a serious accident. He shouted, doctor, doctor, I can't feel my legs!" The doctor replied, "I know you can't, I've cut off your arms!"

13. I went to a seafood disco last week... and pulled a mussel.

14. What do you call a fish with no eyes? A fsh.

15. Two fish swim into a concrete wall. The one turns to the other and says "Dam!"

16. Two Eskimos sitting in a kayak were chilly, so they lit a fire in the craft. Unsurprisingly it sank, proving once again that you can't have your kayak and heat it too.

17. A group of chess enthusiasts checked into a hotel and were standing in the lobby discussing their recent tournament victories. After about an hour, the manager came out of the office and asked them to disperse. "But why," they asked, as they moved off. "Because," he said, "I can't stand chess-nuts boasting in an open foyer."

18. Two peanuts walk into a bar, and one was a salted.

19. Mahatma Gandhi, as you know, walked barefoot most of the time, which produced an impressive set of calluses on his feet. He also ate very little, which made him rather frail and with his odd diet, he suffered from bad breath. This made him. (Oh, man, this is so bad, it's good...) A super calloused fragile mystic hexed by halitosis.

20. And finally, there was the person who sent twenty different puns to his friends, with the hope that at least ten of the puns would make them laugh. No pun in ten did!

"Shirley Temple Today..." 'Bettejo Dux' (Vintage Bettejo)

Bettejo Dux has lived on the cosmic Garden
Island of Kaua'i for over 40 years.
Bettejo is a regular opinion writer in the Garden Island news
and is the author of the famed novella, "The Scam."
 Her latest fiction"Children of extinction"
is now  released and available on Amazon!

Shirley Temple Today

Grandmother Trump loved Shirley Temple.  The dance routines. The songs. She shared her bed with three Shirley Temple dolls. Had several stored in her closet and one in a chair by a window overlooking Central Park. Though ragged and frayed  and covered with dust they stand staunchly in the  glass enclosed curio I inherited when  my mother died. The thing's baroque as all get out. We've spent a fortune hauling it  from base to base.  It also holds  an entire collection of Shirley DVDs. Plus albums and other memorabilia. Three generations of us us have contributed, and my hope is the fetish will be passed on. All of us, for years, have polished the glass weekly.

I'm Shirley. My daughter's  Shirley. She's ten.  Like me, she learned about the original from the get go. When I was three my mother bought  me a ruffled white, red polka dot dress  like the original wore in Stand up and Cheer.  I dressed my Shirley in it when she was three. I read recently the real thing sold for $75,000. Wish I could've bought it.  Just as my mother taught me, I taught my daughter, the original was a symbol of happiness and hope.

Neither my daughter nor I excelled at singing and dancing,  our hair was neither gold nor curly, but we loved to pretend. Like me, my Shirley likes the Littlest Rebel movie  best. The original  made that movie in 1935 and was about the Civil War.  Appropriate for the times, don't you think? Her staircase dance with BoJangles delights us. My husband often releases black guys and brings them home  to watch the film. We laugh out loud as they try to imitate Bo.

The real Shirley died on February  11, 2014. This year we mourned all day-- and mourned all night-- trying to get all of the misery right.

You may wonder how my husband--who's  West Point proper-- puts-up with our idiotcyncracy. He loves us. We make him happy. I think he loves the curio cabinet, too. Sometimes I think that's why he married me. He loves baroque. He met my grandmother once and fell in love.  He says she was the greatest baroque he ever met. He brings fellow officers home to see her picture--she was beautiful and rich--and show off the Michael Amini Chateau Beauvais.

We're big on birthdays.  So this year Shirley and I plotted. We talked our favorite  BoJangles into teaching Shirley how to shoot. Found some  Woodland Camo Fatigue pants and a vest. Also a great Xploderzgun that shoots jell balls. Our Bojangles taught her how to use it and set her in a tree. Then he loosed a rabbit at which she took aim. Turned out she was a natural.

On his birthday, we  talked her daddy into taking a walk. The stage was set. Shirley was treed. The rabbit was loosed. One shoot got him.

"If that'd been a real bullet, long ears'd  be  dinner."

"Next time," we cheered. Proud. Our Shirley was the littlest sniper.

"Water Skiing in Church..." 'Chester "Unc" Lau' (Source)

Dakinetalks favorite Uncle (Chester Lau)
"Unc"  is really passionate about creating a national Caregivers day.
Any help , support or ideas would be greatly appreciated...
'Unc' currently resides on the Hawai'ian Island of Oahu.
He is a retired cinematographer,
and  enjoys giving the politicians a bad time...
"I am PRO-CHOICE ON EVERYTHING WITH RESPONSIBILITY..."

Water Skiing in Church

In Church there is a family that has recently been baptized. After a month of being new members the Bishop calls them in separately to see how they are doing. During an interview with the father, the bishop asks,

?"Will you give a talk next Sunday in Church??"

The new convert replies, ?"Sure, but what would you like me to give my talk on??"

?"On anything you feel that would be beneficial to the congregation, like past experiences and such that have changed your life in a positive way.?"

So he goes home and immediately starts thinking about what he would like to speak about. One night as he is working on his talk his wife comes up to him and asks,

"?So honey, what are you going to give your talk on??"

"?Well, after much thought, I have decided to give a talk on water skiing.?"

?"Water skiing! What? This is Church we are talking about; you can?t give a talk on water skiing. It would be indecent!?"

?"The Bishop said I can give a talk on anything I wanted to and I want to give it on water skiing!?"

Her husband is known to be a big joker so she shrugs it off not worrying about it for the time being. As Sunday comes though, she starts to get nervous and can?t take it any longer. When they arrive at the church parking lot she says to him,

?"Alright sweetheart, the jokes over. What are you really going to give your talk on??"

"?I was being serious; I really am going to give a talk on water skiing!?"

His wife responds, ?"Well, if that?s the way you are going to be, me and the kids do notangry wife want to be embarrassed by this, so we will wait out here in the car while you give your talk!?
?"FINE, be that way!?" He replies.

So he goes into Church while his family stays in the car. As he sits down and waits for his turn to speak, he thinks it over and realizes that his wife is probably right. Talking about water skiing in Church? What was he thinking?!! So he goes to his backup plan. He gives a talk on adultery. After he gives his talk and the session ends he goes back to the parking lot to get his wife and kids and to apologize for the way he acted. But before he could say anything to them the Bishop comes up, turns to his wife and remarks:

?"Your husband gave one of the best talks in Church. I mean there wasn?'t a dry eye in the room after he finished!?"

The wife stared at the Bishop incredulously. "?You must be joking! He's only done it twice. Once with my mother and once with my sister and couldn't stay up either time!!?"

"Why Trucks..?" 'James "Kimo" Rosen' (Kimo's world #80)

James "Kimo"Rosen is a retired Professional
 Photographer living on theGarden island
of Kaua'i with his best friend Obama Da Dog.

This blog appeared as a guest column in the
July 23,2015 edition of  The Garden Island News.
"All those trucks and nowhere to go"

Kimo's World #80
Why Trucks..?

According to a recent article in The Kaua'i Garden Island News,7 out of 10 people drive trucks on Kaua'i?
http://thegardenisland.com/business/local/kauai-keeps-on-trucking/article_0eb880bf-2442-50f0-a551-c40af73fd7a4.html
Whenever I  drive my Hyundai Accent I am dwarfed by monster pickup trucks, usually tailgating me.

My observation is  that many people driving these huge monster trucks with 4 doors and a back seat are not in construction, landscaping or a handyman needing them for their profession but rather the average citizen just wanting something big to drive.
Psychology teaches us that those with big trucks may be compensating for something else, according to Sigmund Freud?

Many consider Kaua'i the alternative island with many environmentalists, yet 70% of the population is driving gas guzzling pickups and SUV's. Why?

It's ironic with only 416 miles of paved roads on Kaua'i that  huge powerful pickup trucks and SUV's make up the majority of  motor vehicles.  It gives little space to open throttle  with the average speed of 40 mph or less on most roads.  This is the reason why so many tailgate. No where to go with powerful vehicles.

My other theory is that with real estate being so out of sight for the average person with  fixer upper homes costing in access of 500,000 in many situations that  a good majority make their vehicle their pride and joy just as real estate once was for generations past.

Many young people are paying  $40,000- $60,000 on vehicles. How do they afford it? They finance it, their payments are  like a mortgage payment while many young people live 2-3 generations in the same home with aging relatives.

Real estate usually appreciates and is considered a wise investment whereas a $50,000 vehicle depreciates the second you drive it out of the showroom and to be making big payments on something that is rapidly depreciating is ludicrous.

All in all Kauai is a beautiful place, however if you choose to drive be prepared to be closely tailed by a monster pickup truck. I guess it's better than being tailed by an officer of the law with his flashing lights on, or is it?

"Garage sale commeth..." 'Judith Whitehead' (Inspiration Sunday)

Judith Whitehead lives in Amherst New York
( A suburb of Buffalo, N.Y.)
and has worked in the ophthalmology
field of medicine for over 30 years

Garage sale commeth

It's that time again.  August, when our annual garage sale in the neighborhood takes place, better start collecting my treasures for the chopping block.
Last years Garage sale
at the Whitehead's

This year I have some furniture to add to the mix and hopefully we will have perfect weather on the weekend.

I have some convincing to do when it comes to my husbands treasures. We go thru this every year but I am confident I will  convince him that those old clothes from the 80's have to be retired.

Stay tuned for the outcome....

On a serious note about nurses!

"How to raise a Jewish dog..." 'Obama Da Dog' (Source) Shared from Facebook

Obama Da Dog  was born and raised on Kaua'i.
Obama can be seen cruising the streets of Kapa'a with her
best friend James "Kimo" Rosen.
Obama blogs about another smart Jewish dog. Enjoy!

Morty visits Dr. Saul, the veterinarian, and says, "My dog has a problem. ”
Dr. Saul says, "So, tell me about the dog and the problem. ”
"It's a Jewish dog. His name is Seth and he can talk," says Morty.
"He can talk?" the doubting doctor asks.

"Watch this!" Morty points to the dog and commands: " Seth, Fetch!"
Seth the dog, begins to walk toward the door, then turns around and says,
"So why are you talking to me like that? You always order me around like I'm nothing.

And you only call me when you want something.
And then you make me sleep on the floor, with my arthritis.
You give me this fahkahkta food with all the salt and fat, and you tell me it's a special diet.
It tastes like dreck! YOU should eat it yourself!
And do you ever take me for a decent walk?
NO, it's out of the house, a short pish, and right back home.
Maybe if I could stretch out a little, the sciatica wouldn't kill me so much!

I should roll over and play dead for real for all you care!"

Dr. Saul is amazed, "This is remarkable! So, what's the problem?"
Morty says, "He has a hearing problem! I said 'Fetch,' not 'Kvetch."
