"Taxi driver..." 'Obama da Dog'

Obama Da Dog likes a good laugh as much as anyone....

Obama Da Dog's friends, Dylan and Bubs  really enjoyed this story, they hope you do too!

A woman and her ten-year-old son were riding in a taxi in Sydney. It was raining and all the prostitutes were standing under the awnings.

"Mum," said the boy "what are all those women doing?"
"They're waiting for their husbands to get off work" she replied.

The taxi driver turns around and says "Geez lady, why don't you tell him the truth?
They're hookers, boy! They have sex with men for money."

The little boy's eyes get wide and he says "Is that true Mum?"
His mother, glaring hard at the driver, answers in the affirmative.

After a few minutes, the kid asks "Mum, what happens to the babies those women have?"

"Most of them become taxi drivers" she said.

"Hello, Can I Help You?" 'Michael Herr' (Aloha Friday)

Renowned author Michael Herr is back on this awesome Aloha Friday blogging about one of the  frustrations of of modern times... Make sure and check out Michael's website at; http://www.michaelherr.com/

They say if your computer is having  problems just ask an eight year old or call customer assistance, the choice is yours....

ALOHA FRIDAY
October 21

It's Aloha Friday.

"Hello, Can I Help You?"

I made an error the other day. An error for which I was severely punished.

I had been having trouble getting onto Firefox on my iMac. Having done this before a couple of times I clicked onto Network Preferences and then onto Diagnostics and for some inexplicable reason, I typed in the wrong password.

You might think this was no big deal. But it was. Suddenly I was shut out from any Internet connections. No Safari. No Firefox. No nothing.

Digging out my latest bill from A.T. & T. (my service provider) I got on the phone.  I stayed on the phone for hours and hours. The wait was interminable. The most intriguing part of my wait being the recorded message that I heard over and over as I waited for my call to be answered: "Visit A.T. & T. dot com for many answers to your questions". I wondered how I was supposed to do this when my computer would not connect to the Internet.

Finally my phone, if not my prayers, was answered. By someone whose accent made it nearly impossible to understand. Our conversation was so hilarious I should have recorded it and included it in a comedy movie.

I was shunted from agent to agent and each time I was transferred I had to give the same information again; phone number, problem, account number, etc. Several times I gave the A.T.&T. agent my information only to be asked, "What state are you in?" and then to be told, "Sorry, this is Florida, you need to speak with a California agent. Please hold while I transfer you."

Now I do want to say that the A.T.&T. agents were very polite. All except the one who suddenly cut out on me leaving me holding onto a phone with no dial tone, no sound, nothing. I gave up on that one after seven minutes of waiting.

Finally I did get a California agent who knew what she was talking about. With some effort she got me reconnected to Safari. But then she determined that my real problem lay with my Airport Express connection, and A.T.&T. doesn't do Airport Express. Along the way to reconnecting with Safari the agent and I both learned that A.T.&T. has my birth-date listed incorrectly and that I had no security questions/answers listed with them. Now I do. A.T.&T. also said that I entered the wrong last four digits of my Social Security number. When I asked the agent about that she told me that they didn't even have my Social Security number. (so why as a part of their security procedures did they ask for it?)

I closed out for the day knowing that at least I could go onto Safari and collect my email, though all my bookmarks were left behind on Firefox.

My head still reeling, I came downstairs the next day and using Safari connected with Apple Support. After paying forty-nine dollars for a thirty-day support contract, I linked up with an Apple Support techie who was wonderful. He led me through the steps necessary to re-configure my Airport Express and got me up and running in only thirty minutes or so. When I finally got Firefox up and running, and when I saw my wonderful bookmarks lined up along the side of the page, I cried tears of joy. And the money I spent for the contract was well worth it.

I have vowed never to type in the wrong password again. I know all too well now the pain of not being able to connect to the world through - - - -

Connection Terminated. Short-Term Contact Payment Denied by Bank. Contact Apple.com/Service for further information.

Much aloha.

"Redemption of the first born Donkey..." 'James "Kimo" Rosen

For the first time in the state of Hawaii the Jewish religious ceremony of the Redemption of the first born Donkey, (Peter Chamor) Exodus 13:13 was performed on the Garden Island of Kauai....Also to be noted this ceremony is "Rarely performed anywhere!"

A sheep is required as part of the ritual along with a high priest called a Kohen Gadol (Priest) pictured on the far right. The ceremony took place 10-18-11...In Kapahi Hawaii. (

When my Rabbi recently invited me to a religious ceremony called 'Peter Hamor,' I googled it for more information, I found  Peter Hamor  to be a mountain climber who  summited  Mt. Everest on May 19Th, 1998. He has since successfully completed the 7 summits...
Ironically it is also a Judaic religious ceremony involving a donkey, Ironic because the name of the ceremony has the same name as a famous mountain climber, since donkeys are also great climbers.
On Tuesday October 18Th at approximately 5:00 P.M. Hawaiian time the first ever in Hawaii, Redemption of the first born donkey (Peter Chamor) was celebrated on the Garden island of Kaua'i.
The question then remains who is Peter Chamor? According to the website 'Ask Moses' the answer lies below
"A. Nobody. He doesn't exist. It’s PEH-ter chah-MORE, Hebrew for “initiation of the donkey”—a Mitzvah, not a person."
"B. Peter Chamor is to first-born donkeys what Pidyon Haben is to first-born Jews. If the owner disowns ‘em, they go to the Temple. If he wants ‘em, he gives the Temple a sheep or goat instead. Positive Mitzvah #81."
"C. Before “holy cow!” there was “holy donkey!” This mitzvah distinguishes donkeys to pay tribute to their critical pack-animal role in the Egyptian Exodus."

How do I redeem my donkey?
 "1. Qualifying Criteria
Donkey must be the first born to Mr. and Mrs. Donkey. He must be male. He must be born naturally. He must belong to the Democratic Party. Just kidding. Owner must be an Israelite—Kohanim and Levites are exempt."
"2. Hand it Over
Today, the kohen serves as donkey collector in the Temple’s stead. Give him a sheep or goat (as long as it’s not dead, slaughtered or Caesarian-born), and Donkey’s yours to keep."
 "3. Make a Statement
A special blessing is recited when the exchange animal is designated, even if it hasn't yet been given to the kohen."
Judaism is a hard religion to understand especially if your not Jewish, even if you are Jewish it's difficult to comprehend certain things, but we do these things out of obedience to G-d.
First off, there is a ceremony called a bris, where a baby Jewish boy is circumcised in front of a crowd of friends and relatives, it's a big deal on the eighth day of the boy's life his foreskin is  removed from his penis  with many onlookers, with no anesthesia except Mogan David wine.

Now fast forward 55 years after my bris I finally hear of a ceremony called 'Peter Chamor,' (Redemption of the first born donkey.) At first  I though it was a baaaaaaaaaad(sic) joke,(please google it) however it is described in the old testament in Exodus 13:13 (And every firstling of a donkey you shall redeem with a lamb; and if you will not redeem it, then you shall break its neck: and all the firstborn of man among your children shall you redeem.)
No necks were broken, although I am sure it was in there symbolically. When do we interrupt  literally and when do we interpret symbolically? That is a question all religions ask of themselves?

I guess my religion is a little crazy,(aren't they all?) first with having onlookers watching  the removal of foreskins and then everyone making a  big fuss over an ass... Whether it's your ass or my ass who said religion can't be fun?

For an encore or as they say in Hawaii for the 'Hana Hou' I could not resist one little joke;

Q: What happens when your carrying a donkey and you chuckle so hard you drop him?
A: You're laughing your ass off.

"Free shock treatment on Kauai,..." 'James "Kimo" Rosen

Kauai Island Utility Cooperative is the most expensive electricity in America, which can make ones hair stand on end....

Electricity on Kauai is so expensive, over 40 cents a kilowatt that toasting marshmallows over your electric range can cost more than the  bag of marshmallows....

It is said that electricity can make your hair stand on end when shocked.

I am  shocked by  KIUC,(Kauai Islands electric company) a member owned cooperative. This member owned cooperative makes my hair stand on end. (as you can see, above) ;D)

It was recently divulged after much fanfare what our member owned cooperative pays for rent in it's current location across from Kukui Grove shopping center.

One of the reasons Kaua'i has one of the highest electric rates in the country at over 40 cents a kilowatt hour is this member owned cooperative pays approximately  $90,000 a month rent! I would hope that includes electric? That means just for rent we are paying over one million a year. I would think that common sense might tell you after 5 years you could by prime real estate and erect your own building...

Talk about electricity causing shock, you don't need a psychiatric diagnosis for shock treatment on Kauai, KIUC supplies it to us all  for free with our monthly bill.

"Rod & Reel..." 'An Anonymous friend from Homer Alaska'

Thank you to the anonymous guest blogger from Homer Alaska for this wonderful fishing story...

Photo of sunset over Cook Inlet-Homer, Alaska, courtesy of the Anonymous blogger!

A woman goes into Cabela's to buy a rod and reel for her grandson's birthday. She doesn't know which one to get, so she just grabs one and goes over to the counter.

The clerk was standing behind the counter wearing dark shades.
She says to him, "Excuse me, sir. Can you tell me anything about this rod and reel?"

He says, ?"Ma'am, I'm completely blind; but if you'll drop it on the counter, I can tell you everything from the sound it makes."

She doesn't believe him but drops it on the counter anyway......

He says, "That's a six-foot Shakespeare graphite rod with a Zebco 404 reel and 10-LB. Test line. It's a good all-around combination, and it's on sale this week for only $20.00."

She says, "It's amazing that you can tell all that just by the sound of it dropping on the counter. I'll take it!" As she opens her purse, her credit card drops on the floor.

"Oh, that sounds like a Master Card," he says.

She bends down to pick it up and accidentally farts.

At first she is really embarrassed, but then realizes......there is no way the blind clerk could tell it was her who tooted. Being blind, he wouldn't know that she was the only person around?

The man rings up the sale and says, "That'll be $34.50 please."

The woman is totally confused by this and asks, "Didn't you tell me the rod and reel were on sale for $20.00? How did you get $34.50?"

He replies, "Yes, ma'am. The rod and reel is $20.00, but the Duck Call is $11.00, and the Catfish Bait is $3.50."

She paid it and left without saying a word...

"New Job, new perspective..." 'Judith Whitehead' (Inspiration Monday)

Judith Whitehead is back guest-blogging on this Inspirational Monday about how every day is Thanksgiving ... Judith lives in Amherst N.Y. has worked in the ophthalmology field of medicine for almost 30 years...

Times are tough for many not knowing where their next meal may come from. Many people are one step away from being homeless...

Sometimes we can get in a rut, going to the same job every day, mindlessly getting up every morning
and going to work to bring home a paycheck. After several years of doing that, I woke up one day and
decided I needed to work at a place where I could make a difference. I needed to contribute to a place
where my work meant something and I could give back and feel fulfilled at the end of the day.

So after several months of searching for the right position, I found a medical practice where I could
utilize my medical and people skills more fully and could feel that I can do something to make a
difference in someone’s life at the end of each day. It is so easy to get complacent in our lives and to
just go along and get along every day. We have such little time to leave our mark on this world; It’s
important to give back somehow to people who can benefit from our help and touch their lives in some
small way.
Each medical practice has a certain culture of people it is comprised of depending on where the practice is located. As it turns out, I have found myself working in an area of Buffalo that has some of the most needy patients of all. They are people from all walks of life, professionals’ as well as nearly homeless enter our doors every day of the week. They are all in need of medical attention and they all share a common bond; they are all human being in search of care.

In all my years of working in the health field,I have never felt as lucky as I have lately. Over the last few months I have met such a variety of needy people that have no fall back network, no family or friends to count on and who are in such need of medical attention. Their stories unfold in front of me each day and range from despair to success as I work through their patient history. I cannot help but compare their lives to mine and it has made me realize just how lucky I am to be part of a loving family and group of friends; some of them will never experience what I have had all my life. Many of them are of limited financial means and have put their health on the back burner for many years, now it is catch up time to fix what been broken for so many years.

For many, food and housing takes precedence over health and well being. As their stories unfold each day in my work area and they share what has happened in their lives, I feel lucky to be part of their health care plan and only hope it is not too late for so many that have gotten to this point of sickness and despair.
It once again reminds us that many people living, especially during these shaky financial times, how
fragile life really is and that we are all just one step away from homelessness, unemployment and
despair. None of us really take the time to realize each day that we have a warm place to live and food
to eat each day; something that many of these people worry about 24/7.
Especially during this time of year, when the holidays are approaching, we need to take some time to
realize what we have. I have begun to observe this fact every day I go to work and feel more grateful
than I ever have for how lucky I and my family have been. When you have the opportunity to swap
stories with the needy, you really see the great amount of lonely, needy and unhealthy people that still
remain out there with no support system and nowhere to turn. Thanksgiving will take on new meaning,
especially this year for me.

"Occupy Wall Street..." 'Obama Da Dog'

 Laughter is sometimes the best therapy say's Obama Dog....  This blog also appeared as an opinion article in the Kauai Garden Island News on 10-16-11; "Dazzling hypocrisy;
http://thegardenisland.com/news/opinion/mailbag/article_b7aa3dcc-f7d7-11e0-820b-001cc4c002e0.html
Wall street seems to be America's current scapegoat for all our problems. There is a new movement called 'Occupy Wall street' that is just starting to come into it''s own with protests all over the country even including Kauai island in the middle of the south Pacific.

America is all about free speech and like the sixties many things were changed through protests. Whether you agree or dis-agree on the current movement, the one thing we can all agree on is that America is the greatest country on earth where we can all speak our mind.

I am here-fore  enclosing my favorite words of a recent poster entitled, 'Occupy Wall street,' I feel it says's quite a bit. Enjoy...
"Here is one of the many fun ways to enjoy the dazzling hypocrisy of the Occupy Wall Streeters. “Join us as we organize against corporations, using social networking (by corporations), smart-phones (by corporations) serviced by wireless carriers (that are corporations), wearing clothes (made by corporations), capturing it all with cameras (made by corporations), and getting there via cars, buses, bicycles, and shoes (made by corporations). We deserve more from these greedy corporations. Join us afterwards at Starbucks!”
